NULL mag Issue 09 06 Another bbs idea
this is an idea that came from m@stermind of americanpibbs.com, i am just doing some "explanation" and/or "expanding" of it. so the idea, was to pay a specific bbs developer to help write/support his bbs program. the payment can be via a crowdfunding platform, so the supporters will not only help the work of the programmer, but perhaps also be able to ask for features to be implemented and more.
the idea, at least for me, is very good! don't know if it's possible or not, but as an idea is great, if some day we succeed to implement it, it would be great for the bbs scene in general and for sure it will open the way to other similar bbs projects.
my "expansion" in this idea is, why choose a specific bbs program and programmer to do the job, when we could write down what we want the bbs program/server to do and then gather the money, gather a few people who are able to do so and do it. so instead of "advancing" a particular program it would be possible to make a new or combine all ready existing programs, into a new project. for example... just for example! we now have mystic, enigma, magika, synchro etc... what if, we gather enough money and combine the developers of these programs to write a new one, that will combine parts from all the above projects? just saying. the details and features for the "new" program will be described in the crowdfunding project, so the programmers don't have to dis/agree between them. they will just have to follow the "instructions" :)
which brings the other aspect of the whole idea... for the bbs scene to agree in the details for the project. for example, in what programming language should be written, what the features will be etc. for sure, not an easy task to do. but you have to admit... the idea is very good ;)
