what's the thing that more or less everybody talks in the scene, about
the scene? that the scene is dying... how many times have you heard
that? countless... the thing is, that whenever i hear about the dying
process of the scene, i never hear the reasons or just all of them.
you only hear about, how old we are now and that life responsibilities
don't permit us to be active members of the scene... and blah.. blah..
blah...
so... let me make you a question. how many minutes or hours, do you
spend on browsing and writing in facebook? in instagram? in twitter?
in discord? is it 10min? 20? 30? 1 hour? 2 hours? it doesn't matter.
what matters is, that you have "free" time for all those anti-social
networks but not for bbsing... that's why the bbs scene is dying.
how many groups about bbsing are in facebook? and how many people are
discussing in them? why? why discussing about bbs in facebook and not
in an actual bbs? if all this traffic, from any anti-social net. about
bbsing, was actually going on bbses, then the bbses wouldn't have any
problem! sure, it wont bring the 80s-90s back, but for sure the
traffic on bbses would be much more, than it is now.
so, don't complain if no one is visiting your bbs, when you are almost
80-90% of the time in facebook, than in a bbs or an echoarea. don't
complain about, when your echonet has no activity, but all those who
are part of that echonet, are constantly online in any fucking
anti-social network!
why do you make questions about bbs stuff, in facebook? login to a
bbs, go to the messages area and leave a msg there... and it's not
because it's easy... but because this way, you are making traffic and
make useful, the same thing, that you are asking about in another
media. does this seem logic?
the same thing happened to forums. it's not that they are dead, it's
that the users of them, left them for facebook. because, now days,
facebook is the place to discuss anything... right? from cars, to
health, to retro stuff, cooking etc. even if this media, is being
accused for practices that are illegal, has lost your password many
times, has infected your computers with all sort of malicious software
etc.
so... don't tell me that bbses are dying... tell me that people today,
are more stupid and they trust big corps, even if they know that they
are "watching" them and expose them to dangers. don't tell me that
bbsing is dying, when you are 24/7 in discord, but not for a minute on
a bbs. no man... bbses are not dying... users are getting more dumb or
perhaps... more dumb people, became users and the whole internet
became a shit hole.
so... should we stop using facebook? perhaps, not stop, but for sure,
use less and less, specially for bbsing stuff. we should use it, as a
way to advertise the "bbs way", show others the past of the internet
and so, but when it comes, on the use of a bbs, a network etc. why use
facebook and not a bbs? specially when you and i came from that era
and we know how to use it and we are familiar with it. for sure a new
guy, will find it a bit uncomfortable.
...and this goes not just for facebook, but all anti-social means. we
should use them as an advertisement thing and not for showing or
asking how to use/setup a bbs or draw some ansi and stuff. because i
am sure that none of us, will know where to stop or where to start
using facebook, instagram, twitter etc for bbsing.. the golden rule
is: use them as less as you can! use bbses more!
