NULL mag Issue 06 09 Textmode!
ok... back in the 80s, we didn't have many options in what gui we
could use, so text interfaces, were our only option. but now days
even with so many guis, there's still the "love" for using text
interfaces.
we can say that is just nostalgia, for those who were born in the
60's-70's, but we can see even younger people getting used to use
terminals and prefer them, than using 100% the gui of their system.
they may use a mix of gui and tui*, but still you can see that they
prefer a more light environment, that doesn't use a mouse and
graphics. the "outsiders" may call them the linux-gurus or something
and they may be... but even so, why they prefer to use tuis*?
some may say, because of the simplicity the tui* offers to the user.
the clear text and easy readability or that they don't need the use
of a mouse which is, in a way, very tiring for the hands to make the
movement from the keyboard to the mouse and vice versa all the time.
for sure tuis* have their advantages and are for only a few of us.
but is it only this? we just prefer a non-graphic ui, because we got
older using it? or because it's a faster way to do computer staff?
did it cross your mind that perhaps, your whole attitude to life is
minimalistic? i don't know for you, but for me it is. it's not my
computer staff, that are minimalistic, but almost every aspect of my
life.
i never buy luxurious things or too complicated. i always prefer the
"easy to use" approach, with not much fuzz, blips and blops. my car
is not a high end model with every gadget on the market. my phone
also, my clothes, my tools etc. i always find my self to be one or
two generations back in every aspect of technology and it's not
because i didn't have the money, but because i preferred so.
so, can we say that bbsing and using tuis* is an attitude of life? now
that you read this article, did you notice the same thing in your
life? can we say that we are using bbses, terminals etc, because we
are simple guys? or just weird? may be both... :) hahahahaaa
