Death on the Nile postponed to 2021
It seems that not many movies will be released this Christmas. The reason ? COVID-19 pandemic.
One of the most awaited movie, at least for me, was Death on the Nile , based on the Agatha Christie novel. Originally planned for December 20, 2019, it was rescheduled to October 9, 2020 then again to October 23, 2020 and later on to December 18, 2020.
Now, it looks like the movie won't be released in 2020, as the Disney schedule suggests September 2021 as new release date!
The story has already been adapted for the cinema twice:
- Death on the Nile from 1978 starring Peter Ustinov as Poirot
- Agatha Christie's Poirot, Death on the Nile from 2004 starring David Suchet as Poirot
The new “ Death on the Nile ” sees Kenneth Branagh as detective Hercule Poirot. The story is well known: Poirot investigates the murder of a young heiress aboard a cruise ship sailing in Egypt on the River Nile. Along with Branagh, the movie's cast includes Gal Gadot, Letitia Wright, Armie Hammer, Annette Bening and Russell Brand.
The previous movie starring Branagh as Poirot is “Murder on the Orient Express”, released in 2019. The movie was a huge box office success, grossing more than $350 million at the worldwide box office. With the pandemic and cinemas worldwide closed, it appears that Disney won't be able to sell enough tickets during the Christmas 2020 season.
