DIRK BENEDICT NO-SHOW FOR CHAT: As those of you on the reflector list
know, Dirk was scheduled to appeear on-line for a Chat on the Universal
website Tuesday night. But, for whatever reason, Dirk never showed up.
There is no news yet as to if and when the chat will be rescheduled.
--
NEW IMAGE FILES: I've uploaded quite a few very nice A-Team photos on
the web site, publicity shots mostly from British magazines from the 80s.
They are definitely worth checking out,

A-TEAM CONVENTION POLL: This is something I'd greatly appreciate your
feedback on. A few of us have been debating the feasibility of trying to
organize at least a SMALL-scale A-Team convention next summer, to
coincide with the movie release. But before we go whole-hog on trying to
do this, we need YOUR opinions and input. We need to know if enough
people are SERIOUSLY interested in attending and helping out, therefore
this poll. If you can "cut and paste" the following questions and your
responses to the form below and email them to me, I will tabulate the
responses for the next newsletter and we can try to come to some decision
ASAP on this matter.
Please note that by a "relaxacon" I mean a small scale, informal-type
get-together. I would imagine getting a con suite at a hotel for hanging
out, watching videos, having ample munchies all day; perhaps one or two
meeting rooms for small panel discussions and perhaps a small dealer's
room/collectibles display room; dinner included for Friday and Saturday
nights, hopefully one of those nights in conjunction with a group
excursion to see the movie; etc. No media guests, most likely, just a
bunch of fans hanging out (sort of a 3-day version of the Philly Fests
but at a hotel instead of my apartment!)

CONVENTION SURVEY RESPONSE
1. Would you be interested in attending an A-Team convention?
2. Which of the following possibilities would you be the most likely to
attend? (Please rank: 3 = would definitely attend, 2 = might attend, 1 =
probably wouldn't attend due to location/interest/etc, 0 = no interest)
- an A-Team "relaxacon" on the East Coast (Philadelphia area)
- an A-Team "relaxacon" on the West Coast (LA area)
- a large-scale A-Team convention, potentially with media guests, in
the LA area
3. Would you be able/willing to help with organizing the convention?
(This could be anything from publicity, getting flyers out at other cons,
POTENTIALLY making arrangements for guests, collecting donations for a
charity auction, financial records-keeping, hotel arrangement
coordinator, ...) If so, please indicate what you might be most
interested/able to help with)
4. Any other comments or suggestions:

MAILING LIST UPDATE: You'll probably remember a few weeks back talk of
us finally getting Listserv capability for this mailing list. Well,
since my initial contact with the people running this "free" mailing list
service, I have heard nothing from them in weeks. I have no idea if
they've just been swamped with too many requests or if it was a scam of
some type. In any case, there is currently no progress on that front.
Someone here volunteered that they might be able to arrange for Listserv
via a friend; I'll certainly entertain all possibilities at this point.

PLANS SCAMS AND VANS #2 ON-LINE: That's right, I've finally finished
putting together the electronic version of one of the back issues of our
A-Team fanzine, PLANS SCAMS AND VANS. The format is basically the same
as for PSV#3, so the downloading instructions are as follows:
1. The 'zine has been formatted in ADOBE ACROBAT format. To view it,
you will need the ADOBE ACROBAT READER. This is a FREE utility program
you can pick up off the Adobe homepage at
http://www.adobe.com/prodindex/acrobat/readstep.html. Whatever your
computer format is, you should not have difficulties finding a suitable
Reader.
2. Download the actual 'zine, which is located at
http://www.seas.upenn.edu/~pellegri/psv2.pdf
This file is quite large (~2.9 MB), but as I scammed some extra disk
space, I didn't have to break it into segments and worry about
compression-software incompatibilities.
3. This 'zine is SHAREWARE. If you enjoy it, a donation of $2 to cover
production costs would be appreciated. (We're still in the red on this
one from the print runs, thanks to some crappy agents who have made about
$100 worth of zines disappear with no reimbursement). A postcard or
letter of comment at the least would be very nice and let us know you
appreciated the work that went into the publication. Shareware fees to:
Nicole Pellegrini, Philadelphia PA 19103.
4. For more information on the 'zine before you download it, you can
check out the flyer at
http://www.seas.upenn.edu/~pellegri/issue2.html (and yes, the print
version is still available at a cost of $10.50 plus postage.)
--
UPCOMING 'ZINES UPDATE: We're still planning on having two new 'zines
available by next month sometime - PLANS SCAMS & VANS #4 (all A-Team) and
WHATEVER GETS YOU THROUGH THE NIGHT #1 (multi-media adult). Both are in
final proofreading and editing stages but still a little while from
release. Nevertheless, I am taking advance orders (but NO money yet) so
that I get a good idea how big to make the first print run.
After that, the next publication will be DEADLY MANEUVERS - all A-Team, a
somewhat more "serious" publication than PSV. Focus will be on
hurt/comfort, romance, things that might make it to an "R" rating but
nothing explicitly adult. This one I'm aiming to put to print later this
summer, but we can still accept submissions for now - I'll set a
tentative deadline for JUNE 1, 1997 for this one. PLANS SCAMS AND VANS
#5 is already accepting material, and will be open until AUGUST 1, 1997,
unless it fills up before then. We're also looking for submissions to
several other titles, information on them can be found on our Sockii
Press page at http://www.seas.upenn.edu/~pellegri/sockii.html.

ARTICLE TRANSCRIPT:
The following appeared in the official A-Team Fan Club Mewsletter (#1).
Nice little piece that had some info I'd never seen before (and since
we've been talking about dressing like the team a lot this past week...!)
"Murdock's Just Crazy About His Jacket"
You won't be seeing "Howling Mad" Murdock on the cover of "Gentleman's
Quarterly," but nevertheless, he is setting off a fashion trend of his
own with the faded leather jacket he wears on "The A-Team."
Patrick Hasburgh, one of the original Writer/Producers of "The
A-Team," wanted Murdock to have an article of clothing which made a
personal statement and reflected his time spent in Viet Nam. Kent
Warner, Wardrobe Supervisor for "The A-Team" and the mastermind behind
all the A-Team's costuming, immediately thought of those classic flyer
jakets from World War II.
"The idea for the jacket came easily," says Warner. "It was one of
those unusual curcumstances where everything was totally right on."
Inspired by the Flying Tiger Shipping Company's tiger head, Warner
commissioned Pauline Annon to paint a tiget on the back of a used flyer
jacket he had purchased from an army surplus store. Warner liked the
tiger idea, he says, because it looks like something from the jungles of
Viet Nam. It also alludes to the original "Flying Tigers," a group of
volunteer American aviators organized in 1937 to fight against the
Japanese under Chaing Kai-Shek before the U.S. had officially entered the
war.
Schultz "flipped out" when he first saw the jacket, says Warner.
"He loved it. I didn't have to change a thing. Dwight is really
wonderful to work with and not at all hard to please. Now he wears the
jacket so much you can hardly get it off his back.
Because the jacket and Schultz are practically inseparable on the
set, costumers have become concerned with the wear and tear on the
jacket. Since the original jacket, two copies have been make and Warner
predicts more copies will have to be made in the near future. "The
leather holds up pretty well," Warner says, "but the color fades." The
jackets for the copies were bought new and cost about 40.00 pounds. "We
really didn't have to do much to make them look used," says Warner, "but
each new jacket has to be hand painted."
Whether or not Murdock's jacket will be seen in the next issue of
"Men in Vogue" it certainly is a regular on "The A-Team." "Dwight loves
that jacket," says Warner. "The other team members are also ery
comfortable with their wardrobes. I think that's what makes the costuming
so right."

A-TEAM LENDING LIBRARY CURRENT COLLECTION
Here is the latest version of the Lending Library Catalog. You'll notice
quite an increase in the amount of material since our last posting in the
newsletter, thanks to everyone's donations. There is still more material
to add - some 'zines yet, lots of fan club newsletters, the annuals, etc
etc... so, donations are still appreciated if you'd like to see the
collection grow. Your response so far has been amazing!
------------------------
HOW THE LIBRARY WORKS:
The library collection catalog is attached below. The collection is
constantly growing so to request an updated catalog, email Denise at
DDMESSER%TAONODE.
Users are allowed to borrow at most 3 'zines at a time. To borrow titles
from the library:
1. Email Denise at DDMESSER%TAONODE with your choices.
2. Denise will get back to you to confirm
(a) that the titles you requested are currenly in the library
(b) how much postage will cost. Materials will be mailed 2-day Priority
Mail.
3. Send Denise
(a) 1 check or money order to cover postage
(b) an SASE for the return of your deposit check
(c) a separate check as a deposit on the materials you are borrowing.
Materials are loaned out for a period of 3 weeks, maximum. Please return
the 'zines to Denise as soon as you are finished with them so that other
people can enjoy them (and you can borrow more stuff!) Once your
borrowed 'zines are returned, your deposit check will be returned -
unless you would just like to leave it on hold at the library, a good
choice if you intend to be a frequent user. Deposit checks will only be
cashed if a 'zine is lost or returned in a damaged state and requires
replacement.
