Twisted Metal Review
by Jonathan DeBor
Well, I have been playing Twisted Metal pretty heavily for about 2 days now and am quite pleased. This game is AWESOME!!! I was a bit hesitant when I first saw it on the PSX demo CD, but was dead wrong after playing it. It is simply incredible! The graphics are laid out well, the controls are smooth, and the gameplay is outstanding.
Graphics: This is one game that can show off the PSX in the area of 3D graphics. When flying through the streets at 100+ mph, all is clear and cool. With the variety of options in 1 player mode, you can select how you want the screen to look: from be hind the wheel, from right behind the car, or from far behind the car. Also the rear view mirror, radar, and display screen can be turned on or off to see more of the playing field.
Sound: The sound effect on this game are great! You can hear everything from the squeal of the tires to you opponents grunts as you destroy them. The music is also well laid out for depending on the game stage...check out the X-mas music during you st int at the city park.
Gameplay: This title offers the one quality that all games try for: replay value, or i.e. will you get sick of this game. Answer: NO. There are 12 vehicles to choose from, six battle fields ranging in size and content, and enough secret weapons and tactics to satisfy anybody. With each vehicle there are certain things that are better for it than another one, meaning for example you could use the tractor trailer to run over an opponent instead of a sportscar, but the sportscar is much faster to get away from other enemies.
Controls: Plain and Simple: Donít completely judge this game until you have played for a while and mastered the controls. They are well-thought out(with 4 configurations), but you need some time to get used to them. Once you do the fun-factor jumps u p 100 percent.
2 Player Mode: This is the most fun two player I have experienced on the PSX. With a split-screen mode, you battle each other in modified versions of all the different worlds. The only thing that disappointed me about this game is that it is not capab le to you the link-up cable. Now that would be wild!!!
Overall: On a scale between 1-10, Twisted Metal gets a 9. Its gameplay is lasting, fun, and different. Three things that are a must in the game. This is one of those game that if you own a Playstation, you canít pass up. Until next time...Jonathan
