Changing existing Game Genie's SNES codes

Like those in NES codes, the character slots in SNES codes each affect the code by different amounts. Making smaller changes to a code results in similar or related codes. As with the NES, the slots in SNES codes can be ranked from those that make the largest change in a code to those that make the smallest:

8 5 3 4 6 7

Slots 1 and 2 are not listed because they do not truly change the code. To change the code, just choose a character based on how much of a change you want to make. Now, refer back to Aero's tables (accredited in section 2.12):

Char. 5, 7 Char 6, 8
D 0 6 A D F 4 7
F 9 B 2 0 9 1 5
4 1 C 3 6 B C 8
7 5 8 E A 2 3 E

If you chose to change one of the last four characters, you should take its replacement from the same row. It is legal to use any other character you want, but you will probably make a MUCH larger change in the code than you intended. So, if you want to change the 4 in slot 7 of your code, you should use 1, C, or 3 as the new value. Slots 6 and 7 read like a two-digit number. To continue after character 7 has reached its fourth option, advance character 6 by one and reset character 7 to its first option. When both 6 and 7 are maxed out, advance character 4 as described later and reset both. Say you started with xxx4-4Cxx (characters 5 and 6 both from the third row). Next comes xxx4-48xx. After this is xxx4-16xx. Keep doing this until you get to xxx4-38xx. After this is xxx7-46xx.

To change slot 3 or 4, follow the table in the codebook:

D F 4 7 0 9 1 5 6 B C 8 A 2 3 E

Slot 4 readily yields new codes when changed. You may never need to mess with slots 6 and 7 if you use the right values for the fourth character. On the other hand, slot 3 is generally best left alone. Remember, if all of the codes for a game use values from 6-E for the third character, you must do the same.

Now that you have changed the code, you may find that it crashes the game or does something else to disrupt the game. You may need to change the first two characters of the code to make it work. As before, the best ways to start your own codes are DD, 3C, and EE.
