1997 November 10: Steve Jobs introduces PowerPC G3 and Apple Online Store
Steve Jobs unveils the PowerPC G3 chip along new Power Mac G3 and PowerBook G3. Perhaps more interesting is the unveiling of the Apple Online Store. Apple would now sell computers direct, both over the web and the phone. The Apple Store was a runaway success, and within a week was the third-largest eCommerce site on the web.
