Hi!,

Is it me or are there two different mixes of `Catch the Breeze`?? The version
on the `Just for a Day` album differs to the version found on `Best of
Independant 20`. I have listened over and over again and am sure that the
`BOI20` version has a different vocal and guitar mix! Neils vocals on the
verses seem different and when Rachel comes in on the chorus, she seems more
prominant, it`s a better version! Also the `Skybound`TM guitairs at the end
sound different. Is this the single version? Can anybody shed any light?

Also, what about the artwork on the early e.ps...wow! It sort of completes
the sound of Slowdive. Does anyone know what the image is on `Slowdive` and
`Morningrise`? Or where the photographs were taken?

Regards Tony

Hello everyone,

Well, I have been searching for the _Slowdive_ e.p. for YEARS now,
and finally came across TWO copies of it! I wasn't sure if I would get
both, but indeed that has happened. So obviously one of the copies is up
for sale. But in an auction-type please - PLEASE don't ask me to quote a
price! YOU must do so! :) I would like to pay the bills this
month...(sorry to anyone this offends)
Also, I have the In Mind remixes on CD, but also just came across
the same on 12" - if someone wants to buy the 12" version, please let me
know about that also.

Thanks!

Actually, I don't think the album version is the same as the EP version
for Catch the Breeze. One sounds remixed/tweaked slightly so that the
high background vocal is slightly louder in the mix. Anyone??

Avalyn I and II are the same beautifully symphonic songs, just different
versions... They differ from one another in that Avalyn I contains rachel's
vocals and II has none.

Please excuse my naivete, but I have been a slowdive follower only since
this year. I have just finished getting the three full-length CDs, which
I love.

What's next? I don't know what there is out there. I've heard of
blue day, what is it? A collection of all singles? b-sides? neither?
Are there other gems which I have overlooked?

suggestions welcomed.

I stand by you and definately agree that there are two different
mixes of Catch The Breeze. The one on the EP has the backing vocals (the
higher pithed line) up louder, and overall has a fuller sound (I prefer that
mix).

For some time I have thought that the Morningrise picture is a close
up, possibly from under a microscope of some kind of metal or organic
substance. It looks like sandstone. Has anyone noticed that the original
pressing of the Morningrise EP has a slight colour difference from thaat of
the one that was recently re-released?

Subject: Locust "Morning Light"

Hi, gang
this album is mentioned here for two, no, three reasons:

Neil sings on one of the songs,

a man behind Locust (Mark vanHoen) is a long-time Seefeel engineer and
collaborator, Seefeel-Slowdive connection is well known,

three-it's a very beautiful piece of music.

For starters, short teaser from riouxs@aol.com:

***rioux's recommendation of the month***

LOCUST - Morning light CD (apollo) $16.90
This has been described as This Mortal Coil meets Massive Attack -
and the comparisons could not be more spot on. At times the mood
hits the rare aire of the Blue Nile's _hats_. This is a solid
absolutely beautiful record composed by Mark Van Hoen and
features vocals by Annie Williams, Zoe Niblett, & Neil Halstead.

earlier Locust material is a more dark claustrophobic high-quality
intellegent techno. Lately he started collaborating with various
vocalists (mostly female) with the result being more romantic,
atmospheric string-laden compositions. Sure as hell sounds like This
Mortal Coil, right? Well, the sound of the record is less "4AD", more
trip-hoppy, but in the mood, not the techniques. Soulful vocal tracks
are mixed with rather minimal ghostly instrumentals, reminiscent of
later Bark Psychosis, Talk Talk and "Pygmalion". Neil's singing is OK,
but doesn't stand out much as most of the songs are as great.
Conveniently included is material from Annie Williams earlier "Folie"
EP on Apollo.

for dreampoppres I would remind that the new Radiohead is great, new
Spiritualized album is less droney, more Boo Radleyish, and new
Catherine Wheel (more ballad-inclined) is coming out very soon.

Hello,
Does anyone have any Slowdive or Mojave 3 videos they would like to trade. I
desperately need the promo vids. I have the following videos I can tape in
exchange:

Poetic Frenzy ex 8 min
Catch the Breeze ex 5 min (this is the US version without the
band, just scenery scenes--pretty dull)
Paard Van Troje, Den Haag 23.02.92 vg- 55

I also have most of the Stereolab videos, as well as some TV performances.
All the My Bloody Valentine videos and a MBV concert:

ULU, London 16.02.89 vg- 60

I use NTSC.

Hopefully someone out there is interested in getting something going.

See ya,

Subject: lsd do mojave

hello everyone...
just thought that this little chunklet of info might be of interest --
midway through love spirals downwards' set on friday night at the projekt
fest in chicago, they did a cover of mojave's 'candle song'...theirs was
quite an excellent rendition, with suzanne perry's incredible vocals and
ryan lum's quiet acoustic strumming...once ryan started playing, suzanne
prefaced it with a comment something like, "you guys know who this is,
right?", though i would think that it must have gone almost entirely
unnoticed and unappreciated by the majority of the audience, with the
exception of myself, fellow fest-goers bryan and mike, and the one guy down
in front who yelled 'mercy'! at the end!
just thought that i'd pass that along...
susan.

p.s....and no, i didn't record it, very unfortunately... :(

Subject: Flying Saucer Attack

I couldn't help myself. I'm a big fan of Flying Saucer Attack and I
thought I would just add some more items to "(sara's)" (15/7/97) list.
If you like Slowdive, particularly "Pygmalion", then chances are you'll
definitely like F.S.A.

Readily available in addition to "Further" and "Chorus" and that live C.D.
are:

"Flying Saucer Attack" (self titled)

My Dreaming Hill
A Silent Tide
Moonset
Make Me Dream
Wish
Popol Vuh 2
The Drowners *
Still
Popol Vuh 1
This Season Is Ours
(Running time: 50:18)

"Distance"

Oceans
Standing Stone
Crystal Shade
Instrumental Wish
Distance
November Mist
Soaring High
Oceans 2
(R.T.: a bit over 40 minutes)

"Outdoor Miner/Psychic Driving"

Outdoor Miner **
Psychic Driving
Land Beyond The Sun
Everywhere Was Everything
(R.T.: about 15 mins.)

"Sally Free and Easy e.p."

Sally Free And Easy ***
Three Seas
(R.T.: about 15 mins. the title track goes for 7 mins.)

"Flying Saucer Attack*Roy Montgomery"

Goodbye
...And Goodbye
The Whole Day
(R.T.:about 23 mins. (I think))

The last single listed is quite different from any of their other stuff.
Well not really different, just more extreme. Much more experimental
and Krautrock-ish. But it's still excellent. But then I'm biased because
I"m also a big fan of Krautrock!

Footnotes:
* This is a cover of Suede's first single. It's very good. It's also
rather hillarious hearing Dave Pierce's (F.S.A. vocalist) impersonation of
Brett Anderson!
** This is a cover of a Wire single. It's very short. But the single is
worth buying just for "Psychic Driving".
*** This is a cover of a Pentangle song. It's excellent, although not what
the first time F.S.A. listener should be listening to.

Hello.

Do you remember Secret Shine (of Sarah Records fame) that brought you the
beautiful shoegazy `Loveblind` and many other delights. Well it is possible
to order a 7" called `Wish Coming True` b/w `Wasted Away` which was never
released!!!! (the B side is excellent)

The 7" can be purchased from:-
Shine Mansion
10 Cossham Road
St. George
Bristol
England
BS5 8DL

The cost is (pounds)2-50 (inc p&p) for the UK
(pounds)3-00 (inc p&p) for the rest of the world
PLEASE MAKE CHEQUES PAYABLE TO TIM MORRIS

Although Secret Shine have officially called it a day, they recorded many
`shoegazy` tracks since.Their later work mixed skybound harmonies of a male
and female vocalist backed with reverb guitairs. While they are best known
for `Loveblind` the track `Take Me Slowly` `Greater Than God` e.p. and the
album `Untouched` are highly recommended. The main members of the band are
now in a new band called Junkie who have released a 5 track CD single which
is available at the above address at #4-50UK #5 R.O.W.
