Subject: "SHAMELESS" & "M_SPACE" reminders! (TORONTO only!)
Hey Kats,
Just a few reminders to pass along. First of all, the second installment of
"SHAMELESS SUNDAY" at the Lion's Bar (349-A College St, west of Spadina @
Augusta) will take place this Sunday (January 19). It is now officially a
weekly event and the cover is still only $2! The night promises to be one
of musical diversity featuring the best in indie, pop, alternative, techno,
house, trip hop, hip hop, jungle, drone, shoegazing, low-fi and cheese.
Requests are always welcome and we don't play the same 50 songs week after
week, as other Toronto nights are famous for. As an added bonus, we will
also be previewing advance copies of the new Depeche Mode, U2, Gene, Blur
and Pavement albums!!! There will also be free giveaways for the latest
PolyGram releases as always! So come and be shameless!!!
Secondly, for all you drone fans the second installment of "M_SPACE" will be
taking place this Wednesday (January 22) also at the Lion's Bar. It is now
a regular night as well and will occur every second Wednesday from now on.
Therefore, after this week the following one will be February 5th. Judging
from the awesome turnout at last week's M_SPACE it is quite obvious that
this is the place for Toronto "dronies."
Hope to see you all there,
JASON PARIS

don't know how rare it is, exactly. it was a promotional split single for the
tour they did together in '92. i got one thru someone at EMI & i believe the
songs are "leave them all behind"/"she calls". it's probably only worth
something to a ride or slowdive collector...

I've seen it for as much as $15 so you got a good deal. To me a record with
ride and slowdive on it is priceless. Too bad LTAB is the dumb shortened
version. bye ryan

i managed to get one of these for free last year. i just signed up
for some record store discount card and picked one up. the tracks
are: slowdive - "she calls" and ride - "leave them all behind". both
are excellent songs, especially "she calls" which is has that gorgeous
"just for a day" sound.

I have a question for every blue day owner out there..especially for
those who got BLue Day with Souvlaki. Did Blue Day come in the same case
as Souvlaki(kind of underneath the cd hidden) or was it in another jewel
case and evident that you had bought two cd's. The reason is I have
found many places selling the import Souvalki and I want to be sure it
will have BLue Day in it still.

Okay. The Blue Day Souvlaki comes with "Bonus CD - Blue Day" written
on a small circular sticker. The box is one of those flip-over 2CD
affairs - There's also no tracklisting or anything for Blue Day at
all.

The blue day w/souvlaki comes in just one case. It says "2CD" on the black
side hinge part of case and the number is 139x not just 139 and mine has a
black sticker that says it has blue day included. It was supposed to be
limited so i don't know how likely it is that you would find it anywhere,
atleast new. bye ryan

Strange, my copy has a release date of 1995. Although, "Ask Me Tommorow"
did make CMJ's best 200 albums of 1996 chart.

the problem is that it depends on in what part of the world you live. 4ad
released the mojave 3 album in the uk (and europe, i believe) in the fall
of '95, but the US release was delayed until the beginning of '96.
that's the scoop...

i was lucky to get two of these for free from the local radio station
several years ago. I could've gotten more and was actually thinking of doing
so since it only cost me postage but laziness struck. They probably still
have tons of it at the station since the DJ was actually begging listeners
to ask for them. He said that they had so much of it that they actually
decided to use it as wallpaper making the room a very cool blue.

Yup, that's right. The European release date was October 16th, 1995
and the US release date was January 16th, 1996. All neatly presented

This isn't entirely true, as I picked up a US release of _Ask_Me_Tomorrow_
at, of all places, Best Buy in St. Louis in November '95, and yes, its a
non-promo us release. They had well over twenty copies in stock.

That _is_ strange. What does this mean? That 4AD (US) released some
domestic copies in October/November 1995, then changed their minds
and moved the "official" release date to January 1996, and released
the rest of the batch (in a new pressing with 1996 printed on them)?
Weird. Anyone at/with a connection to 4AD on the list?

The new album is titled "ladies and gentlemen, we are floating on space",
and it is supposed to have just NEW tracks, if you remember Lazer...and
Pure Phase had some tracks already released on eps or 7", it is supposed
to be released on March.
A question : when will the new Spectrum will be released? I love the last

This is not what their website said i don't think. Cause i know it fit with
their name like Spitirualized Laser Guided Melodies and Spiritualized
Electric Mainline. Spiritualized Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating In
Space doesn't really sound right. hmmmm bye ryan

Well, they have a wierd concept regarding their band names. The band name
changes with each album, and each album has its own separate title
(theoretically). The name change reflects a substantial change in the
band's sound.
1 Spiritualized Lazer Guided Melodies - s/t
2 Spiritualized Electric Mainline - Pure Phase
3 Spiritualized Rocket-Shaped Songs - Ladies and Gentlemen, We Are Floating
in Space
What a bunch of crackheads, eh? :)

I think Spiritualized, along with their great music, have brilliant
concepts, musically and artistically, and having a new appendage to the
name "Spiritualized" on each album is among those great concepts. Very
creative indeed.

Yeah, I have a few songs on tape by them, as well as the Summer single.
They also have a single coming out on that wonderful wurlitzer Jukebox
label within a few weeks. I don't know about the MBV comparison being very
accurate, but they have nice quiet/noizy arrangements which are pretty
superb. Definately worth checking out...

From what i've heard, the new one is much more of a soul escapade with
contributions from dr. john (brilliant blues guy), spring heel jack
(incredible dubby drum and bass duo), possibly brian eno, and has been
compared to some elvis sessions. It will contain some of the brilliant
songs that they played last time i saw them, if my memory is working,
some titles were: electricity
cop shoot cop
come together (not the mc5 cover that spacemen 3 did)
Also, they're releasing it under "Spiritualized Rocket Shaped Songs" (i
think). I can't wait until spring for another soulful journey c/o them.

courtesy of Lawrence:
- They've been getting some [much-deserved!] attention in the press, and
Andrew Weatherall (Sabres of Paradise, Two Lone Swordsman - produced Primal
Scream, Happy Mondays et al) has expressed interest in a possible
collaboration. I don't know his work, but I know that he did a cool remix
of My Bloody Valentine's "Soon."
- There will be two remix 12"s (Tortoise, anyone?) released on Beggars
Banquet. They're all remixes of songs from the new album, and appearing are
the following:
The first 12":
"Beat" - Mark Clifford (who supposedly checks out the lists from time to time)
"Without Stopping" - Witchman
"Fear of Flying" - Robert Hampson
The second 12":
"Empty Words" - Boymerang
"Black Light" - Dunderhead
"Coming Down" - Immersion (Colin Newman)
- As for when these are coming out, "Beggars is looking to get the
first 12" out around the third week of March - after _Beat_ is released in
the UK and worldwide on the 24th of Feb." I must say I'm pretty psyched!
If you *still* haven't picked up _Beat_ -- where have you been?! All I can
say is that you are really missing out.

What I've heard by them sounds pretty good. I heard the new single as well
the other day and that sounded great. NME is certainly giving them the hard
sell and they reckon that they're brilliant. Ironic really as they sound
pretty much like Slowdive and they hate them. I can't see the Valentines
comparisson either. It's cooler to be influenced by them though.....
Cheers,
Mark
