With all of this obsessive talk of Silviana I feel like
introducing the topic of the Monkees (since Neil is a Monkees fan..no?).
Has anyone seen the motion picture the Monkees released in 1968? It is
called "Head". It is totally brilliant. It deals with late sixties
politics and the deconstruction of the "made for TV" band the Monkees. I
wasn't expecting much when I saw it...But the fake four surprised me. It
is placed in the cult section in most video stores. RENT IT NOW!!

Yes, and Seefeel remixed them too.

That disc is "Delay Tambor" published on may by Elefant Records, an spanish
label. Maybe you can get it by Slumberland.

The "digiweb" page tells me that the following videos exist:
Morningrise - Creation Volume 2 (1991)
Shine - Promotion video (Summer 1991)
Catch the Breeze - Promotion video (September 1991)
Alison - Promotion video (Spring 1993)
If anyone out there has a nice clean stero copy of these (on NTSC VHS tape)
I'd be happy to make it worth your while. (Trade or cash.)
Thanks.

Please get the hell off this list. Your highly articulate and

Obviously, everyone else on the list does care--THAT'S WHY THERE'S A

Subject: Silvania
Hi everyone,
Well, turns out I can get Silvania stuff from Siesta records in Spain.
Elefant hasn't replied yet. But here's the poop: They are expensive! I
would need to charge $11 per LP and $13 or $14 per CD. That's a lot more
than I would like to charge, but the records themselves cost as much as I
usually sell them for - actually more for LPs, same for CDs. Plus postage
is about $2 per item. So I need to know if anyone definately wants some
Silvania stuff from me. I'm going to order some for myself and a few
friends anyway, but it will probably be in the next week or two, so if
anyone wants stuff, let me know a.s.a.p. Here's what's available:
En cielo de oceano LP/CD
Paisaje III LP/CD
Galas Trax 12" (I assume their prices for 12" are the same as LPs)
Delay Tambor LP/CD
Avalovara 7" (this would cost like $6, so I wouldn't recommend it!)

Subject: Unanswered questions
Greetings all,
i've been on the mailing list for a while now, and have
not really posted much stuff. So after all this time, i have come up
with some questions that someone might be able to answer, and also some
suggestions....
does mojave 3 have any plans to tour australia? to my knowledge,
slowdive never did, but even now there is still a strong interest in the
creation (and former creation) bands of the past, which could be seen
when Swervedriver played here late last year. (best show i have seen in a
long time)
as said previously, slowdive never toured here, and they have
never released and live material, so i have no idea as to how good they
were in a live context. I have tried to obtain copies of bootlegs, but
they always seem to fall through :( If anyone wants to help out here, i
would be happy to trade for anything i have.
who played bass on Ask Me Tomorrow?
i also noted in the slowdive discography that thier first e.p.
was released with swervedriver's raise pressed on it. The only reason
quoted was that the had a 'close connection'. did anyone know then that
the catalog number are very similar for the two releases ie: raise -
CRECD093, and SLOWDIVE - CRESCD093, CRE093T. maybe someone just mixed up
the DAT tapes?
just trying to kill the conspiracy theory.

when they were recording the album they were listening
to the jerky boys and there is a little dealie about souvlaki
and insulting someone... "shell suck yer cock like souvlaki"
or something similar... thats the story i heard.
they thought that was funny so they used it as an album title.
im sure the other things (space station and moussaka) are realted
in an obvious way.. for those of you who havent heard moussaka
chaos its jsut another take of SSS.

Every dish is ethnic. "Ethnic" is not a synonym for "foreign".

>those are from? Anybody have any idea if those are somehow related to the

They are both Greek dishes, as someone has already pointed out, and yes,
"Souvlaki" is a reference to the aforementioned Jerky Boys routine. The
"Space Station" bit is a joking take on all those epics with "Towers of Dub"
and stuff like that in the title. The band didn't actually know what
souvlaki was at first. "Moussaka Chaos" is so named just because it's
another Greek dish, and it's a remix of SSS, not an alternate take.

Unfortunately, I have no idea if Mojave 3 plans on touring Australia,
but I just wanted to say that Australia did the rest of the world a
big favor when it comes to Swervedriver. I don't know if you read the
"interview" I did with the band (posted about a year ago (?)), where
they said that they figured that they would try to play their older
songs again because they had never been released in Australia, and to
their surprise, they sounded really really good. So, then they played
them on the rest of their tour as well (including Sweden that is).
The old songs really did sound fantastic "re-vamped" like that...

Well, that is the most reasonable explanation I have heard about this.
You are probably completely right. The band (Swervedriver) didn't know
why it had happened. They just said "it's just like Creation, misprints,
whatever...".

To my mind, an alternate take is where the band re-records the song from

Moussaka is a spicy mince and aubergine type affair with a cheesy topping.
Souvlaki is bits of meat etc barbecued on a stick.

i must admit i only had a few singles of swervedrivers when i
went to see them, but i can now say i'm sure they played songs including
Rave Down, Sandblasted, Son Of Mustang Ford and possibly Deep Seat. The
highlight of the night was the extended encore performance of Duress.

Actually, I wrote to Sarah records (RIP) the label which the Glass Arcade
Compliation appears, and inquired about this very subject. Clare told me
that the group named Eternal had Slowdive's (Original) drummer in it,
Christian something? I can't think of right now. That was the only
connection between Sarah Records and Slowdive. It's a very Slowdive-ish
song, but not really considered to be a pre-slowdive band he didn't write
Slowdive songs.

The group had Christian the guitarist in it. When he left to join Slowdive,
that was the end of Eternal.
