Yes! I just turned on the TV one night, and that guy at Alternative Nation
(MTV Europe) started to talk about Mojave 3 - so I kind of threw in a tape
in the video and managed to get the whole thing recorded! And I agree, it
is a beauty. Kind of like an old-time (Capone time) bar flick, I thought.
But, like Windblows (Joe) said, that was the _only_ time I've seen it on
MTV.
To get the list a bit more active, I would suggest a discussion about
the 4AD UK's behaviour regarding Mojave 3. I tried to order a copy of
AMT through my regular record store, and they said that 4AD UK hadn't
said a word about the band (so the normally very well informed guys at
the store didn't know they even existed). They tried to order a copy for
me, but finally I had to buy it when I was in the US.
Has anyone seen or heard anything about Mojave 3 from 4AD UK?
Posters? Ads? _Things_?

Nah. Can't say so...it's been really quiet... Was a review in NME (i think)
though - got 7 or something. No posters, no nothing. Bit of a shame

flange...i think i got when the sun hits!!!!! yessss!! oh well sorry, i
am very influenced by neil's guitar stylings...hopefully i wil get to
meet him at the show...
okay im off to transcribe more slowdive....oh ace! i thought of
something, how about we all work together and create a compleate slowdive
transcription...its a mighty and formidable task but it is quite possible
as i have learned...any one out there know any or even have the vaguest
of ideas? email me please!! im sure we can help each other...

I've always wondered how neil got some of the guitar sounds. I've come
up with some pretty cool ones myself, too.
Anyway, with all the texture on slowdive songs, there is probably no way
you (or anyone) can recreate the exact sound live.
I think the best thing to do would be to figure out the chord structures,
and slap on some of yer own effects. Experiment.
Also, it's wierd that rachel is connected. Slowdive is one of my all
time fave bands, and I never really thought that the band contained
people. Their image on their albums just doesn't put forward the idea of
members.
But now that the list is in direct contact w/ one of the ex members, if
seems more like a normal band, like a friend of a friend's band.
Am I making sense. It also gives me hope for my own music.

yes, i agree, i was more or less meaning to figure out the effects used
(chorus, delay...etc) and then the bass lines, then the root notes, then
the hard part...figure out what chords neil's playing...incidently when
the sun hits is the tilda means slide: D~E~D Gb~G A
then the hardest part of all...those arpeggios with heavy flange and
thick chorus and a wee bit of delay almost making a reverb...

the UK souvlaki release has a band photo on the cover...but i see what
you mean otherwise...

slowdive are a great influence on my music...so are chapterhouse, my
bloody valentine, joy division, and more...i could go on...

Well, I've got a really nice promotional poster for Ask Me Tomorrow.
It's not a very big one - it's got the CD-cover on it, and a few
things about formats etc., just the typical 4AD poster.

B major 7th the b flat on the g string is gonna
produce some interesting tonal effects with the open b string. Damn,
guitar babble.

A flat 9th. It could be major or minor, because
there's no third.
You see what two years of music theory can do to you. Umm, the 4th in
the phrygian mode of teh key reflects nicely with the c sharp minor 7th
flat 9.:)

Have you heard Silvania?
They do those guitar sounds on their first phase and inclusive
give it sometimes fast movement to all that sound, it was simply
beautiful.The influences i see on their early phase -miel nube hiel
ep (1992) and en cielo de oceano lp (1993)- is slowdive/cocteau
/spacemen3. Really great!!
Now they're in ambient! -Paisaje III lp (1995)-. Remember 5ep?
Like that but with a lot of more beautiful ambiences, it's all so
worked it has lots of nice details, imagine they put on it some nice
guitar ala Durutti Column!! And the more incredible is that they can
give to ambient the same feelings of sadness, melancholy, beauty and
sweet pornography they gave to the shoegazing!
Oh, you really must hear all this!!!

You're right they're a peruvian band, but they play and live in
Spain, and all their material has been released there and there are
still some of their cds available by catalogues -I guess Reading have
them still, actually you can get it by the net but i don't remember
the name of the store-. Anyway: the miel nube hiel EP is on
Experience Records and the rest is on Elefant Records, both spanish
labels.
I know they have already a new ep, Avalovara EP (1996). And I
know they participate in 2 ambient samplers with seefeel, locust,
etc. But unfortunately i've couldn't listen to any of these new
releases.
Does someone have more information?

Well, rather than do any work I've been busy on Altavista looking for
hints on how to get Silvania's albums. The most interesting English
language references will follow this message. While I'm no expert on
exchange rates it looks like the albums would be no more expensive to
acquire for fellow UK readers (and presumably Scandanivians, if the
stereotype of everything being expensive over there is true) than if
they were in the local record shops.
I don't suppose anyone would know how Elefant accept payment? No sense
in sending cash if there's an easy alternative... (assuming I get round to
buying the things!)
All in all Elefant Records seem pretty cool - another Web page informed
me that they're planning an album of Field Mice covers.

(mixing CD's with singles, or LP's with CD's), but it's the only way
for sending through air and registered mail. Anyway, if you mix
formats and you write on your letter that you've seen Twee and Proud!!
