Subject: slowdive

Hello. Slowdive had a more ethereal, distorted sound that was filled with
emotional creativity and soothing melodies. Mojave 3 seems to be a more
matured version of Slowdive, although the band lost something when Nick
and Chris left. It's difficult, however, to make a comparison. Both
bands are genuine and unique. I'd like to comment that I feel Rachel
should sing more...what a beautiful voice. That's all. Talk again soon.

Send me details about your fanzine, please.

Are you talking about demos, i mean different versions from the
released, sounds great for me.
Maybe you're interested in to have a 7" demo from a great
local band called Claroscuro, imagine slowdive's catch the breeze,
silvania's trilce, but dyed with some guitars ala cure's play for
today, primary, a forest.
Emailme if interested.

Hi,

I'm looking to sell or trade a few CDs. Please direct all enquiries to me at
larry@interlog.com, not to the list. Apologies for the crosspost.

stuff I'm getting rid of:

Bardo Pond: Bufo Alvarius etc.
Flies Inside the Sun: ...an audience of others (including herself)
(kranky noise stuff)
Ivy (the New York one): Lately 5-song EP
Grant McLennan (ex GoBetweens): Watershed
New Fast Automatic Daffodils: Pigeonhole
The Nightblooms: s/t
Red House Painters: (the one with the rollercoaster on the front)
Ride: Smile
Sebadoh: Bubble and Scrape
Unrest: Isabel Bishop EP
Witch Hazel: Landlocked (not unlike the more tolerable side of recent Boo
Radleys)

Stuff I'm looking for, but probably no one is willing to part with:

Roy Montgomery * Rachel's (first album) * Stars of the Lid * Sabalon Glitz *
Felt (esp. Train Above The City) * Moose (early stuff) * Chapterhouse: Blood
Music+GlobComm remixes * Bark Psychosis * Talk Talk (last 2 albums) * Cul de
Sac * Leaf or Disjecta or whatever it's called * Pram (pre-Sargasso Sea)

Again, mail inquiries/offers/threats to ME, not the list, or else incur the
wrath of the listies.

Subject: summarizing the show

hey folks

i just got back from washington dc...a six hour drive altogether....and
feel wonderful....scheer was ok..i liked their set but the songs that appeared
on a free shaving the pavement promo tape left something to be desired...alysia
suggested that the best part of the band was the lead singer's voice, but i was
kinda getting into the music too...lush was really great...best songs they
played were hypocrite and superblast...really good stuff.....mojave's set was
very good, but i think id have prefered to see them in a smaller place...there
were catcallers whose presences slowly began to intrude on the intimacy of the
show....i dont remember the exact set list, but there were several new
songs...one in particular that sounded really great had the line.."i have your
number on my wall' or something to that effect....not to sound gaudi but both
neil and rachel were incredibly attractive (id never really seen them before,
all the photos were incredibly ambiguous)...both of them with excellent stage
presence...neil, seemed introverted, yet very complacent...rachel was very
confident, very breathtaking....my favorite ad lib of the evening occured when
the harmless catcall rang out "play some slowdive" to which rachel's response
was "wow, thats original"....i got to speak with neil and ian after the show,
they were both very nice, they signed my cd cover and i asked a few incidental
questions...honestly iut was just such a thrill to even trade words with
them...i didnt stick around to meet rachel, i think she stuck around for lush,
while they were all outside...probably for the best, id have only gawked and
suffered a knee to the etc via alysia...

peace

I noted, with great joy, that in a review of The Cure's latest album
"Wild Mood Swings" in one of Sweden's evening papers, reviewer Per

Slowdive! (though not in a positive way, but anyway...) He wrote:

"...in "Jupiter Crash" they gaze at Slowdive's most dull shoes..."

hi! I know this isnt a forum for whom-ever-you-want-to-talk-about, for
bands.... BUT...
I just bought this e.p. in absolute blindness, never hearing of this group
before, only because i tyhought it would be intersting, and found something
really really good.

The band is called: Mock and the e.p. is called "skyrider" on Bite back
records (UK) 94

I usually hate it when people say 'this band sounds like so and so',
but...... if MBV and Slowdive-(just for a day era) melded they would be this
band.
{ male and female vocals together here too)
Yes, they are really that good!
i know it is only four songs, but...still.
if anyone out there in shogazer dreampopland can give me some info on this
band please do...whether private e-mail or thru the list i would greatly
appreciate it..... and if any of you think you might like what i have
described- you probably will.

well...i'm new to this...i'm not exactly sure if i'm doing
this right, but it's worth a try...(someone let me know,
please)

my dreams have come true and it's nice to have some people
to share them with

i'm krissy from Chicago...(i cannot adequately express my
happiness in finding this site, by the way...)

i'll start at the beginning...(ie:the "Slowdive" days)...i
was fortunate enough to see "Slowdive" here years ago and i
thought it couldn't get any better than that...little did i
know...

Slowdive, alone, has compiled more memories for me than
anything in my life and when i heard they were calling it
quits i was devistated...i thought i would never be given
the opportunity to see them (ie: Neil, Ian, Rachel) again
and i couldn't think of anything more
heartbreaking...HOWEVER, i never lost faith in them...i just
crossed my fingers and prayed that they would continue to
combine their creative energies elsewhere...i
waited...waited...

when what to my wondering eyes should appear???? none other
than the brilliant "Mojave 3"...these musical masterminds
never cease to amaze me...Neil is a creative
genius...Rachel, an angel...and Ian, also sent straight from
the heavens...

i was estatic when i caught word of the "Shaving" tour...

the brilliant threesome (Moj. 3) passed thru here(Chicago)
last Thursday (5.9.96)...needless to say, they blew me away.

As "Scheer" was playing my friends & i went downstairs...not
knowing what we were in for

We were fortunate enough to meet Neil, Rachel & Ian at the
bottom of those stairs...3 of the friendliest, most
unintimidating people i have ever met...

i mentioned to Ian that my friends and i were thinking of
driving to St.Louis for their next show and he told me that
if we decided to go he would put us on their guest list...

have i died and gone to heaven??? not only am i standing
here with THE 3 most influential, inspirational people in my
life but i am being offered a spot on their guest
list...*HUGE SMILE*

naturally we accepted and were off to St.Louis...where we,
once again experienced the awesome powers of "mojave 3" and
mingled with neil, ian & rachel...UNFUCKINGBELIEVABLE!!!!!
I am still in awe and will be for a long time to come...

i am now content with the thought of death in that all
that i have dreamed of has become a reality...i will die
with a smile and i owe it to them...

i know this letter has dragged a bit but what i am feeling
means a lot to me and i appreciate you listening...

please contact me...i have more to tell(believe it or not)

Aha - bet you all thought I hadn't bothered! As it happens it took a
couple of weeks for me to get round to ordering the currency (yes, cash)
from my bank, and quite a while longer for the currency to get to me (we
had a mixup in that neither I nor the bank clerk realised that Spain no
longer issues 500pta notes - annoying as the CD+postage is 2320 ptas).
My order for 'Paisanjes III', plus a few Elefant postcards and badges,
was finally put in the post at the end of last week! 3000ptas cash came
to a bit more than stlg16. Bank charges would have made any other
method of payment, in the apparent absence of a Visa service, more
expensive than that.

I'll post my opinion to the list when I've got the album and listened to
it a few times. Don't hold your collective breath on either count...

BTW, do you mind turning the Urgent setting off your posts Wilder?
It doesn't go away after I've read the message concerned!

Cheers all,
Philip

hi...it's krissy again. Being that you are all members of
this list/digest, i'm going to assume that you are as fond
of "slowdive" as i. In that regard, i have a recommendation
for you to consider.

I was recently contacted by a guy named ben (also from this
list), who suggested that since i loved "slowdive" so much,
i might also enjoy listening to his band "the sunflower
conspiracy"! Well, he was right...there is an INCREDIBLE
similarity between the two bands. The
style...textures...everything. Ben's voice is nearly
identical to that of Neil and the female vocalist (Kate)
also bears a striking resemblance (vocally) to that of
Rachel.

My point??????? Well, i HIGHLY recommend contacting these
guys and purchasing one of their tapes! You will NOT be
disappointed...i promise. It'll cost you $4...what have you
to lose??? You can reach Ben @: bpadrian@cord.iupui.edu

Just something for you all to consider...i know i sound like
a pathetic salesperson or something of that nature, but i
was just so impressed with these guys, i felt compelled to
spread the word.

Well, that's about it for now...

Take care

a friend of mine found the cd on one of his 'listen to a pile of cds by
bands you've never heard of but whose name or album just looks, well,
promising' jaunts and i have to say that the few songs i heard were
fabulous. the last time i checked the web site all it had was pictures, but
it's on prospective records from *this year* (which quite frankly blows my
mind) and i think they're from amerikkka. i'm hunting down the cd also. i
think it was called 'drop' but i'm not sure.

Hi,
The name of the Colfax Abbey record is Drop, and it is on Prospective
Records (distribuited by ADA) there is half a web site up at
www.tt.net/prospective/index.html
that you can check out . They are going on a Midwest and East coast tour
(of the US)In June so they may be coming to a town near you soon. They are
based in Minneapolis. The Record was produced By Keith Cleversly
(Spirtulized, Hum, Flaming Lips)
and Ed Ackerson (Polaria,27 Various, Attena) Oh and they use tthe same
keyboard as Throbbing Gristle (of course Colfax didn't know that)

It is a pretty Fab record, but then I am biased , I put it out.

Hope that helps,
Chris Strouth

who make melancholy, atmospheric, mellow music that has a
country/western tinge? i've heard of a small, good thing(on

music. i also heard tarnation, but it didn't impress me as much as i
thought it would and i've heard that some of moose's later stuff does
this very ghostly, western type of music. i apologize if this is a

Pausing only to warn the Fire Brigade, I'm going to suggest Chris
Isaak's debut album, 'Silvertone'. To be frank, I don't see much
difference between Mojave3 and this (or indeed kd's 'Ingenue').

I hope nobody out there will disagree on grounds of record labels...

nature...however, it may interest some of you.(* my sincere
apologies extended to those not interested*)

following their newest release 'spiritchaser' on "4ad"
(available now in europe...in the u.s. available 6-11) 'dead
can dance' is touring for three months thru
europe/u.s./south america!

for those of you familiar with the power of their music, you
are probably just as excited as i to hear such incredible
news...for those of you not so familiar, i HIGHLY recommend
checking them out when they pass thru...(a phenomonal
experience you will NEVER forget...trust me, i'm speaking
from experience)!

a complete list of their touring schedule can be obtained @
www.4ad.com. (worth taking a peek at)

for the benefit of your own, i hope you are able to see
them...

take care!
