The store is Revolution Records. Their e-mail address is rev@passport.ca
and the phone number is 1-800-281-3882. Their prices for t-shirts is
between $30-40 (CDN), and I know for sure they have the slowdive EP
cover, and I think they have the Just For A Day shirt. They are kind of
high prices, so I can't afford one right now, (they should give me one
for the free advertising...:)

Yeah, I was also wondering about Ride's "Tarantula". Every news
item I've dragged off the net focuses almost exclusively on their
breakup, and not on what the album is like. I'd at least like to know if
it's in the same vein as "Carnival Of Light", or (hopefully!) a return to
Nowhere-land (too much to hope for, probably).

No, they weren't. Rachel has said in interviews that Neil had never even
heard any Cocteaus records until Slowdive started getting compared to them

Hey,
just a plug for bands.

The Sunflower Conspiracy and Black Olive are playing Saturday the 17th in
South Bend, IN (actually Mishwaka, but it's close). It's at a place
called Cafe' Eclectic. I believe it $3 to get in, but I'm not positive.
Black Olive set up the show, so I'm not exactly the most informed person.
But hey, two bands, both of which have members on the list, in one place
at one time for an evening of Bliss-like guitar music with WAY too many
effects:)

I tried to desacribe the bands, but I deleted it because it sounded
corny. So just mail me for more info.

Thanks!!

"Alison" by Slowdive

Intro: A B (repeat several times)

A B
listen close and don't be stoned
A
i'll be here in the morning
B
cause i'm just floating

A B
while your cigarette still burns
A
your messed up world will thrill me
B
alison i'm lost

E A
alison i said we're sinking
E A
there's nothing here but that's okay
E A
outside your room your sister's spinning
D A
but she laughs and tells me she's just fine
E A
i guess she's out there somewhere

(same pattern repeats)

and the sailors they strike poses
tv covered walls answer slowly
with your talking and your pills
your messed up life still thrills me
alison i'm lost

alison i'll drink your wine
i'll wear your clothes when we're both high
alison i said we're sinking
but she laughs and tells me it's just fine
i guess she's out there somewhere

(repeat E A until fade)

------------------------------------------------------------------
One of the archetypal Slowdive songs. I think all of these chords
are right--comments/corrections welcome. To come anywhere close to
the sound of the CD you'll need a flanger or phaser set to a slow
sweep cycle.

She looks just like an angel
When she walks across the room
She shines tonight
Her golden light
Is everything I need

Lovers all around her
She wears them like her jewels
My friend says she's all he needs
To feel alive

Love songs on the radio
His sweetheart lies in bed
She's dreaming of the things he said
She's hoping that he's well

Subject: wierd dream

Okay, I had a bizarre dream last night...
I live in Indianapolis, BTW.
Anyway, I was in a record store, and I saw a flier that mojave 3 was
going to be playing in Indy. Cool. The guy at the record store said he
was going to go interview them, so I gave him a tape of my band to give
to them.
I go back home, and turn on the radio. It turs out that Mojave 3 is
doing an interview on Q95, which is wierd, cause Q95 is the crappy
classick 100% rock 'n roil station in Indy. Anyway, they do the
interview, and go to a commercial. When they come back, they use one of
my band's songs as leader music. The DJ then calls the music Mojave 3.
Mojave then says that it's a local band, The Sunflower Conspiracy (my
band), so the DJ sas okay, and keeps on going. I call the station to say
that I'm in the band, and see if I can talk to Neil and Rachel. I say
I'm in the band that they accidentally played on the radio, and he say
okay and to hold on. He then hangs up on me. I then walk down to the
studios (which are magically nearby my house), and try to meet/confront
the band and DJ. Well, the band and DJ had left, but they asked if I
wanted to finish up his shift on the station. I said no; that I didn't
like the station, and then my alarm went off.
wheee.

The whole dream had a wierd air, and my house was not actually my house,
and Indy looked more like california, you know??

Oh well, just though someone might enjoy this.
Anyone else have wierd dreams with other bands in them.

This is too weird. I had a dream about Mojave 3 Tuesday night. I've got the
CD on my dresser, but haven't had a chance to listen to it yet.

My dream was: I'm living with my parents back in my old childhood home in
Ohio. I was the same age I am now. My family was all having dinner or
something but I needed to leave because I wanted to see M3 play at the Cat's
Cradle (in North Carolina) and I had to hurry so I would be able to get a
ticket. So I'm running down the street in Carrboro, NC trying to get to the
Cradle in time. I finally make it, pay my $36.00 (!) and am standing by the
stage when Neil, Rachel, & Chris come onstage, chatting very casually w/ the
audience. There are bright overhead fluorescents on when the band comes out.
Neil is putting on his guitar, and waiting for the lights to go down, and
slowly getting more and more pissed when they don't. (Shades of Mazzy Star!)
The fluorescents finally go off, Neil smiles, but then the fluorescents come
back on. Neil rips his guitar off, storms out of the club, Rachel and Chris
exchange glances, and I try to get my money back to no avail.

I need to get a life.

I don't hear that at all. To my ears, it sounds like E, but maybe the bass
and guitar are playing different things there.

>> E A
>> i guess she's out there somewhere
>
>and the "E" above I is B major

and after the A, you can just about hear the guitar play another E chord,
just before the drums come in again

>X X 2 0 0 3 | X 0 2 2 0 0 1 0 3 2 0 0 3 2 0 0 3 3 |

Hmm. It'd be nice if that were in the same key as on the album. Maybe Neil
is using a different tuning here, since the guitar has a bit of an odd tone.
I hear the verse chords as:

X 2 4 3 0 X (4) 6 6 3 0 X

and the chorus as:

2 4 4 3 0 X (4) 6 6 3 4 X 0 2 2 1 0 0 2 4 4 3 0 X

I realise, however, that these shapes are awkward to fret and there is quite
a bit of string-avoiding involved, so I've come up with an alternate tuning:

low to high: E F# D G B D#

resulting in

verse: X 5 4 3 0 0 X 2 1 3 0 0

chorus: 2 0 1 3 0 0 X 2 1 3 0 0 0 5 2 3 0 0 2 0 1 3 0 0

but of course only Neil knows for sure...

something really feels c#minory about it, maybe nick is playing E and
neil is playing C#minor.

Mojave 3 is on 4AD vinyl, but I'm unsure of the Creation releases. I'm sure
at one time Creation did put these out on vinyl, but since Slowdive's
subsequent departure/dropping from the label I'm unsure if any of their
material is in print, vinyl or otherwise. Anyone shed light on this one?

ps-incidentally, if you were inquiring for ordering purposes, rather than
general inquisitives, 4AD mail-order in addition to Parasol would have the
Mojave 3 on vinyl.

pygmalian was released limitedly on vinyl...that's all I know. I have
the Mojave 3 album on vinyl...kind of ended up with it by accident...

by the way, I'm a new subscriber to this list of all lists...I am
completely in love with Ask Me Tomorrow...I was a casual fan of slowdive's
until I heard M3, now they don't leave the player. I have figured out
(mostly) all of the songs on Ask Me Tomorrow. The chords are pretty
general, but it sound good when I play along...I'm no huge talent, but if
ya have any q's, try me...

It's due 13 of march, at least over here. I agree that "carnival" was sad,
but i saw them live in 93, before the album was released, and the tracks
from "carnival" rocked massive!!! They must have smoken a lot of grass
before recording the sond in studio, coz there's no energy at all on the
album.

Sorry to offend anyone, but this album is so bad compared to what they are
on stage.

hey peeps,
i am new here, so forgive me if i talk about something already covered (i
havent read the whole digest yet).
PHOTON Boy......i just purchased the sbk release of just for a day for 7
dollars, i suppose i got a good deal then.
i also just purchased the creation release of soulvaki for 6.50!! i am a
happy peep.
i have been trying to get all of the creation releases but i often find
that at one store they charge domestic prices (only to find it to be a
creation sort of domestic release thing....with the 'x' at the end of the
number) and at another they are asking nearly 60!!!!!
i still search
i even thought of pretending to be a record store....hee hee
and order from creation directly.......(will, anyone tell on me?)
anyhow, i love slowdive too muych, i have to fight to keep myself from
just covering their songs all night. i have been writing a lot of songs
lately, and they have a touch of slowdive in them, enough to notice, but
not so much that you think i am a tribute player. that would be jolly
good though.....
well, i must go now....
any lyrics or tab out there?
and also any good dreampop, shoegazer, britpop music out there for sale
(or gifts are nice too)
dont lets be sassy about our terminology.......

Hello, everybody.

I can't but give a plug for an excellent US fanzine called "the Big Takeover".
In fact, it can be hardly called a fanzine, considering its almost 200-page
format. Interviews are usually very infomative, intellegent question-answer
format. On top of that, they review hundreds of albums, incl . a lot of dreampop
etc. Anyway, closer to the list topic.. last years' no.36 features 7-page
interview with Rachel during their US "Souvlaki" your. They touch a number
of lesser-known history details (good for list's discography!), their lovely
relationship with SBK and other stuff. Highly recommended.

Other interviews in this issue (FYI): Bad Religion, K.Hersh, Oasis, Velvet
crush, Moose, Ruts, Steve Albini, Lush, Bob Mould/Sugar.

No.,36 is $4.50 by mail ($5 Can., $6 overseas) 4-issue (2 years) subscription is
$16 ($18/$20 accordingly)
cash or checks to Jack Rabid, 249 Eldridge st., #14 NYC NY 10002

Have fun.
