Only time I saw them on tour was w/ Revolver. Didn't sound very Slowdivish
but they definately were trying to coax a Sonic Youth/MBV sound.
The two guitarists did 5 minutes of white noise in the middle of their set
as the rest of the band watched from offstage. Their first Lp didn't seem to
do justice to the kind of maelstrom these guys could produce live w/ 3 guitars;
they're just mixed way too low to even compare.

Has any one here listened to Leonard Cohen's first album "Songs of Leornard
Cohen"? I'm almost positive that this is the album that prompted Neil to do
away with the "wall of sound" approach. I think they progressed as a band
very nicely. A true muscical genius will never do the same thing twice.
What more is there to say?

Leonard Cohen`s early stuff is excellent.
I also think that Mojave 3 is an excellent band, albeit it`s not Slowdive but
you can`t keep on doing the same thing forever even though I`m sure I would
have liked it just as much.

Leonard Cohen's I'm Your Man is a great album as well...

But I think if you say Leonard had some influence on Neil, then you
might have to also include the Church.

Craig, where were you last Wednesday night when Splinterworld played

Haven't heard the album you mentioned, but I still don't care for the
progression. It seems like anyone could do what they do now, even
though they do it very well. There will never be another Slowdive...

No need I believe you. I wish that I had contacted you originally. As I have
done so also in the past. I feel guilty not offering some of this stuff more
often. Frankly, I'm thinking about mpeging this stuff and putting on my
server (home computer) along with rare stuff by the Chameleons, Lush,
Smiths, Cure ect... Anyone have any thoughts desires, disdain? I know you
have something to say Erik. I'm not trying to be offensive I really like to
read stuff you put up (usually good info - btw anymore info on the Slowdive
boxset?)

I agree - Push Kings have received a lot of attention here in Sweden lately
(they have released one or two 7" singles on a Stockholm label - and were
featured on the front page of the magazine I'm writing for "Sound Affects"
last summer) - they're too Beatles-esque to be worth mentioning. Magnetic
Fields on the other hand...

No, probably not - but from the stuff I have heard with Bowery Electric
they're pretty close. And Estonian band Bizarre did catch the Slowdive
sound back in 1992-1993 (though not these days unfortunately).

No worries at all - I'm also thinking of putting a lot of songs online,
though not the released stuff but the never released/live ones. I'm
all for spreading Slowdive to the world, though I'm still hoping our
beloved friends in the band would get something in return for their
effort and what they have done for us. I'll come up with something
though...

Yeah, I simply must mention here that Bizarre's "Beautica" that came out in
1994 was my first experience of music of this kind - I had hardly ever
heard of Slowdive back then. Beautica is indeed quite close, and at the
same time original enough. I don't know how many people on the list are
familiar with Bizarre, but for all those not, don't forget to check out the
homepage at http://www.halo.ee/bizarre I believe there are some samples of
their earlier sound as well.

Hmm... A song's lyrics' "value" equals to the time that was
used for writing it? I'd disagree with that one. I think
Church has some brilliant lyrics on their album 'Priest =
Aura'. It's nothing like Slowdive, but I still would give
some credit for their music..

how can anyone say that about the Church? For supposedly being written in
five minutes, Under The Milky Way and Metropolis are some of the best

What a disappointment this band was. They were supposed to be the American
answer to Slowdive. I heard one of their EP's and thought "wow this is
great" Bought their first album and said "what the hell happened" A mystery
to me.

Anyone like BLIND MR JONES?

Some of their early stuff is very good

I loved Blind Mr. Jones! (If people didn't know, one of their early
singles was produced by our very own Neil!)

The first album "Stereo Musicale" was very, very good, but the second album
"tatooine" wasn't too great.

Does anyone know what happened to them?

The last that I heard is that most of the band is going to various schools
and that once in a while they get together to record music
