Regarding CD burning....
I have a CD Burner at the office where I work. Plus, there's
also a few Slowdive-lovers there who could possibly help us
out. I am more than willing to burn a some discs or a few
master discs to send out to other "burners". Let's see
this thing through.

well from what i recall Rachel was quite mad when she found out there was a
bootleg version of blue day going around about a year ago. For you to make a
cd like that would only be going against the bands wishes. The best thing the
fans can hope for is Rykodisc buying the rights to the old slowdive stuff and
putting it out. Really how much would one charge for this compilation cd. if
it was free that is one thing but there is always a capitalist in the group

Yeah, but who has all this stuff in the first place. In the second place,
who'd be generous enough to offer a copy w/o expecting something back in
return?
The rarities comp thing sounds great if we can do it, but it seems like from
the last conversation about it a few months ago that no one thinks they have
a copy good enough to burn on a CD or perhaps isn't interested...
And another thing, I don't see why Rachel would have a fit when it comes to
her supporters trying to distribute (amongst themselves) what little there
was of our beloved slowie. How could she find fault w/ the same people who:
attend all her concerts, go out of there way to get any imports they can
find, and patiently await the next Mojave 3 release?
So if she's reading this, which I doubt, maybe you could find it in your
heart to allow us this harmless transaction.
Oh yeah... We love you! OXOXOX

Why can't it be a free one? The production cost will of course have to be
paid somehow, but that's nothing more than what a blank disc costs. The
cover art / sleeve can be put up on the web for those interested to download
and print out. Perhaps there should be some kind of picture & text on the
disc itself - I have no idea what that'll cost though. Anyone?

Fortunately, there are still some people who aren't looking to make a profit
from everything they do. They are rare these days I'll admit... Everyone
isn't sponsored by McBurgers, even though it does seem like it sometimes.

The reason she and the band got mad the last time was because the
guy making the compilation CDs were selling them to make money off of
their work, their souls, their sweat and tears. I don't think you'd
be too happy if someone copied your work (whatever that may be),
and sold it to make money off of everything you'd worked for, would
you?

Well, obviously it would be profitable to that person. It is possible to
decode MP3 back into its original WAV format. Use your common sense and
courtesy rather than stating the obvious. HOWEVER, what I'm doing isn't
for profit. I'm trying to be generous ... don't blow it for the rest of
the listees. This does take a lot of time, especially since I'm not
working on a monster PII.
On a less anal note, thanks to all those who made offers. Our list
maintainer, Erik, has kindly allowed me to upload the files to his FTP
site. I will post more details later.

Hi
Forgot to mention two updates I found in the `In The Studio` section of
Melody Maker (Its found at the back in the sections nobady ever reads!):
Approx November/early Decemnber 1997
Mojave 3 finishing new album at Prava studio (I think it was this one??)
album being produced by either Mick Cook(?) or Tony Doogan(?) of Belle
and Sebastian fame (Yeah!). Single released in February 1998. It was
something like that anyway!
However, William Hill Betting shop are offering an odds on 6-2 favourite
of a later release ;)

Ok, concerning the "rarities" CD, it seems like its time to make somewhat
more specific plans and for someone to take "charge" (which doen't
necessarily mean doing all the work). I was wondering if erik would be
willing to do this since 1.) he has probably one of the best slowdive
collections 2.)he maintains this list 3.)he has ties to memebers of
slowdive, etc? like i said before, i am willing to help on burning some
CDs for other people if and once i could get a "master". also, the artwork
shouldn't be too difficult. i for one have access to a color printer which
does a decent job for pretty cheap. we could do something of Sarah Records
complexity (i.e. a back cover and a booklet with the two outer pages with
pictures and song listing and the inner part blank space). Maybe a collage
of the harder to find stuff (such as the flexi + ?) or just pictures
of the band which people have. As to the music, I have the following ideas
(gleaned from reading other people's posts concerning what they have), and
I'll list them in a priority way:
1. songs never released commercially (performed only live) : joy/silver
screen/bleed/??
2. the flexi songs :take me down/beach song (if they're poor quality now
they'll be even worse in a couple of years, at least CDs don't degrade
with time!)
3. songs from the harder to find e.p.'s which do NOT appear in another
format (such as on Blue Day or on the end of U.S. version Souvlaki):
avalyn II, golden hair, catch the breeze (i've heard its an alternate
version on Holding our Breath)
(slowdive e.p. and holding our breath are really hard to find,
morningrise and In Mind Remixes you can find readily, i'm not sure about
5ep and outside your room)
4. good quality live material (e.g. live at oslo - i love that drunk
norwegian guy)
5. studio demos (though the disc will probably be full by this point,
unless we want to make it two discs)
Except for avalyn II/golden hair/catch the breeze this would probably
avoid conflict with commercial rights as I hear happened before, since
most of the stuff is unreleased or very limitedly released. i purposely
omitted blue day stuff for now, we don't just want to make another blue
day? or do we? what's the opinion of the masses? well, these opinions are
also probably biased based on what I have (more importantly - do not
have), so what do other people want? hopefully, this will probably happen.
oh, also, I'm against mp3 unless we have to. why degrade the quality more
than we have to.

oh, and of course, i think all this should be free (except for costs such
as shipping and blank discs, you can get blank discs from MacWharehouse
for 99 cents a piece nowadays, so it shouldn't cost very much anyway). i'd
hope that noones in it for the money! -gage

I work in production and if you give me some specifics to the size... how
many prints..... 4 color. two color.. blah blah blah.. I could probably
get you a quote... I really don't think it's that expensive... and if there
are only roughly 200 I would cut them out and put them in the cd's myself....
I'm willing to help in anyway... just let me know... I'd really like to see
this happen.. I've been looking for blue day and the other rareties for a
very long time.....

i'm not sure what type of a market a generated cassette>mp3server>cd-r
slowdive recording has, but you never know. Using the same theory...a
grocery store sells bananas. It is possible that one may bludgeon
someone to death with the banana, but it's highly unlikely due to the
scheer inefficacy of the device.
