Sounds good to me.
I could contribute a good quality version of bleed, silver screen,
song1, and joy that was from a decent live recording. Even the flexi
songs that I have on tape.

I live in Finland and it is almost impossible for me to purchase any rare stuff
(I don't have a credit card so the net is not so good for me either).
So, if you can help me find these items, I'd be grateful:
Blue Day
Slowdive
Holding Our Breath
5ep
I have them on CD-R, (except 5ep) but the original stuff is always original.
For return, I can tape you 5ep (in mind remixes) and of course pay the cost
of those discs + shipment. If you want some pay for the effort that is okay
also.

Peter

yes, the compilation CD would be great idea. i have access to a CDburner
but I don't have access to high quality originals and some of the rare
stuff (only very shitty tape copies of live at oslo and holding our
breath, I do have outside our room and 5ep plus blue day and all the
regular albums on CD, but these aren't that rare). but if someone burned
(i.e. erik i guess) a CD or two I could
then make a couple copies for other people who don't have access to A CD
burner, that way it wouldn't be so much work for one person and if
there were enough people with CD burners things could be passed on this
way to eventually everyonge who wanted it... well, just an idea.

Doesn't sound that good because we all know what Rachel thinks about
bootlegs. And it _is_ a bootleg if you make money with it or not. But we

would you be able to proffer payment in US funds?
I think I can get the last two items, no problem. Blue Day is unlikely,
and so is Slowdive aka the first EP.

Hi-
I was wondering; what, if anything, does Movietone have out? I own a 7"
of theirs that I think is self titled (I bought at least a year ago).
Does anyone know if they are still around, ect...?

hmmmm,
that's so funny... the only thing i've ever seen is that 7". in fact, i
looked recently here in chicago (where i live). since it's on drag city,
you'd think it would be everywhere around here.

The 2cd just has the cd itself...no artwork. And would anyone know of lyrics
for Pygmalion? That would be great...

I have or have access to all their records and hopefully most of the
songs played live but never included on any records in okay-good
condition, and the compilations they were included on (ie. "Some Velvet
Morning" which is the only song not included anywhere else) and the
Just For a Day demos. The one thing I do not have (in good condition -
I have it on tape and it sounds horrible) is the flexi, but I'm told
the sound quality on it _is_ horrible, so the tape might actually
be as good as it gets?
So if the band give us their blessing, there will hopefully not be
any need for sending anything but the finished CD. Though of course
that depends on what's going to be on it. I'm sure there are songs
out there I don't have. There always are.
The questions are - a) is it okay with the band?
b) which tracks should be included (ie. which
ones are considered to be "rare" and
impossible to find?)

That sounds like a good idea. I have access to one or two CD burners, but
to make 200 copies would take months. But lets get the OK from the band
first.

Ha ha! To tell you the truth, I haven't heard from Rachel for months -
I suppose it is a good sign as they're working on their new album, but
I wish at least 4AD would send out some "progress" reports once in a
while. Like telling us they're still alive and well. Or _something_.
But regarding bootlegs - this would hopefully not be a bootleg, but an
OK'd "fan club" release. There are loads of those things out there -
though I guess it isn't very usual when the band is no longer active?
Someone's got to be the first though, and why not Slowdive?

Not with the one released in Scandinavia/Benelux at least, but I
have heard of a Japanese version of it with the lyrics included.

Maybe everyone with access to a CD burner can help out with the
burning. Since with digital transfer you theoretically get perfect
duplication, a CD-R copy should be just as good as the master. Sure
beats a tape tree!

Okay, here's the deal. I have a good dub of the gig on cassette, and I
am willing to convert it to MP3 format (broken into separate tracks, of
course). I'll try to tweak the EQ and reduce excess noise as best I can.
If anyone out there has a lot of web space (roughly 35-40MB) on a
relatively fast server, I can email it to you (once completed ...
hopefully by the end of next week) and make it available to everyone for
download. Yes, I'm well aware that MP3 degrades the quality slightly
(keeping in mind you purist out there ... like myself), but take in
consideration that once it's available in a digital format no additional
loss will occur. If no one has the resources, I could also try to send
clusters of tracks at intervals or having clusters spread out on separate
servers so that the entire gig is available.
Although it's not necessary to give me anything in return, I'd really
appreciate a good copy of Joy, Bleed and Silver screen on MP3 (128kbs @
44.1 khz please). I recall Rachel getting really irritated last year
when someone profitted over a CD-R of the EPs, but I think what I'm doing
will comply with her. Since no money is involved, I doubt anyone would
have any objections.
If interested, mail me privately (don't wanna clutter the list).
Too much time on my hands,
Luis

I know this is a redundant hype, and maybe everyone doesn't agree (which
should be discussed thoroughly), but this listing crowd has reacted most
enthusiastically toward a communtity-minded creation. This expressed
positivity to me. The complications with the band, and the virgin burn cd
situation, proves to be obstacles, truly. However, now that the experienced
have persued, and the minnions have spoken, then *Slovedive- is it not
perhaps worth this individually limited, strenuously pursued effort at a
community treasure?* Also, will the elders decree cd or tape? I urge a
response discussion for a potential listing proposition to appeal to
Slowdive/whoever's in charge. We would choose listings, order, and live vs
studio out-takes, or any combination thereof. As posted previously, this
idea bears scrutiny, as could it affect us all, and potentially, be created
by us all. Thank you to everyone for patience and vision.
