you people should really check out the autumns, wonderful band, very etherpop
(ala slowdive/cocteau twins) but the vocals are more like redhousepainters
meet house of love at a radiohead show. beautiful singing and swirly guitars
but not a knock off band like some.

I, personally, don't think the Autumns are anything like Slowdive or Cocteau
Twins (although they may use some of the same effects)...If that is the sound
they are going for, they have failed to accomplish it. Just my opinion. I do
agree with you about the vocals, however.

I just sold my copy of Suicide At Strell Park. So, if anyone is in the SF Bay
area, check Ameoba for a used copy.

Autumns are very amazing...I know the guys and they are really cool, Matt(lead
singer) loves the Cocteau Twins, I remeber hanging out back stage before a
show and one of his friend gave him back like 8 of the Cocteau Twins cd's that
he had let them borrow...They played this past Thursday at a club in Hollywood
(Cafe Bleu) and A couple of skinheads tried to beat Matt up because Matt's
head was shaved... But yes they are really great and they do pull off a damn
good live show, you kids who havent heard them yet, you need to check them
out...

Cheers

To hear some audio samples of the Autumns, go to the Music Boulevard
website and look up the band.

I just listened to them all, and I have to agree with whoever wrote
they weren't at all like the Cocteaus or Slowdive. This is more of
a "summer pop band" - no drone/shoegaze/dreampop from what I can
hear at least.

Yes, I'd have to say that from what I heard, it reminded me of 80's pop
more than anything else, like Tears for Fears, XTC, Trash Can Sintatras
and the like.

In other Autumns related talk, the Autumns played a show up here in San
Francisco with Junior Varsity km, an ambient-pop drum 'n' bass guy on
Darla records. After the show they asked him to do some remixes for
them, so that might be a possibility for an upcoming Autumns release.
Would be interesting, but I'm not sure if the either of the artists ever
followed through with the collaboration.

so when are the sweet trip and jv bliss outs scheduled for release?! or
would darla not appreciate you saying so? i can't wait after hearing your
respective compilations to little darla v8...

the autumns are wonderful. when i said that i meant they're music is great. if
you thought i meant they are a facsmile of slowdive then you read me wrong.

why does a band have to sound like slowdive to be influenced by them. the
autumns are wonderful and yes they drone(you should see them live)

slowdive weren't exactly all original you know......(sound like byrds meet
cocteau twins.)

oh well im disopointed in you people the autumns are great and if you dont
like them that is fine but you are missing out.

i didn't think you meant that. that would be quite naive of me to think you
did. i just think you boosted them up too much, and i was afraid that some
people may actually think they are AS GOOD as slowdive or cocteau twins, which
in my opinion is not at all the case. i would hate for people to go and buy
their cd's from what you said alone... i don't see what is wrong with letting
people know my opinion, which doesn't favor the autumns. i think bands like
slowdive and cocteau twins have acheived their success through their wondrous
talents...but thus far, the autumns don't deserve such a comparison.

sounds great if you happen to have an extra 60 clams lying about. I hope
this prop doesn't keep the list from going on with the excellent idea of
making a rarities comp CD that is only for the listees. It seems
do-able.

Here's a suggestion:
why not just record the rarities CD in chronological order from earliest
to most recent. i have no input as to what should be on it, but the more
the merrier excluding traditional album tracks.

just a few thoughts.... cory

Thanks for your unneeded, tongue-in-cheek comment. I hope that you enjoy
Slowdive as much as I do. If you do, then perhaps you will reply to the
paragraph and not to my writing style. Thank you to those who felt the
messages were worthwhile. This is my first week on the web and I'm still
trying to figure a lot of this out. My first stop was, of course, Slowdive.
Now, in my few days absence, I have located a local cd burner. I have two
live cuts, though easy enough to find, from Mojave 3. Shaving the Pavement.
Thanks for the good vibe list, and let's all keep our minds open to the
special list rarieties cd, if possible. I don't really have any other bands
that I know of that are as good as Slowdive, but Chapterhouse and the Lilys
(actually more MBV) would at least share the genre. Later.

Uh, ok, what is wrong with divas? The lady can SING. I forget her
name, but her voice and presence is beautiful. I saw Goldie here in San
Francisco and frankly it was one of the best shows I've seen in a long
time!

i spoke w/someone at 4ad today. they said nothing is scheduled for release
during the 1st quarter of '98. (the first 4ad release will be Lisa Gerrard's
2nd solo album on april 14). i was also told there is no release date for the
new Mojave 3 but it probably won't be until SEPTEMBER. sorry to be the bearer
of some sucky news....

this is very much a random question...but i really am curious. do all
Lily's "In the Presence of Nothing" CDs eventually skip horribly and
become unplayable. this has never really happened to any other CDs of mine
but has happened to two successive In the Presence CDs. I can't live
without this CD, but the question is, should i buy another one? thanx,

What is the playing time of the CD? More than 74 minutes?
