yeah, i bought that last week. it's alright. i was a big fan of his name
is alive and pale saints' earlier stuff, so i thought i'd check it out. it
actually sounds like a cross between the two bands but with a more
stripped down, acoustic sound. kevin

To whoever posted about Junior Varsity, the JV you have heard on the
radio, more than likely KTRU 91.7 in Houston(?), is probably JV from
Houston, a cutesy kinda twee-meets-garage rock band that sing songs
about ice cream, hot rods, and parties. They play around Houston quite
a bit, and have even toured, with plans for a tour this summer. They
also have several releases, a 7", several comp songs, ect., and have
been in contact with the JV from the Darla Bliss-Out series. All
disputes settled.

As far as I know, Ian Masters has another side project called Oneironaut.
I don't know what it's like exactly, but I'm assuming it's still true to
the ESP and Spoonfed sound.

As far as ESP Summer, I had come under the impression that it was a one
shot deal with Warren Defever (His Name is Alive).

Spoonfed Hybrid had released Hibernation Shock EP on Farrago Records
(right here in Houston, TX) last year or earlier, but I have no idea
what's the status of the band. I know they haven't released anything
since then. Farrago also released the vinyl version of ESP Summer's
self-titled album ... which incidentally is supposedly considered a remix
album. I've got both, but I must admit I prefer the vinyl. I'm
especially fond of Sticky Sun that has an intentionally distorted techno
intro (which happens to be on the Hibernation Shock EP sans distortion).

More blah,

I think you heard the Junior Varsity from Texas. The Darla Record's
Junior Varsity is actually Junior Varsity KM, same deal as the
Charlatans *UK* or the *London* Suede.

Off the subject, but does anyone know how to get any of Pieter Nooten's band
"Cyberia" stuff?

transferred mine to a CD case rather than the cardboard slip case, and
I'd like to print a new sleeve.

Hey there.

If you haven't grabbed Golden Hair from my site, get it tomorrow (Saturday),
because tomorrow night (let's say 11PM CST) I'm gonna take it off and put up
Shine... (just under 5MB)

You know, anyone with ample web space is welcome to put these MP3s on their
site (since I can only post one at a time).

Woohoo!

Does anyone know more about this one (found on the web):

"Anakin CD $9.99
4AD sampler features new and exclusive tracks from Lisa Germano, Gus Gus,
Kristen Hersh, Lisa Gerrard, Mojave, His Name Is Alive and more. Release
Date: 9-Feb-98"

As it says "new and exclusive tracks from..." and Mojave (where's the "3"?)
is included - I a) hope it _is_ a new Mojave 3 song, and b) hope it'll
be something one can get ones hands on (for a change)? Anyone?

Well, as Dan also informned us all, I heard the other Junior Varsity
(from here) -- it certainly wasn't drum'n'bass! I wonder if somebody
hasn't come up with the idea of calling their band "Rolling Stones US."
There is/was a Tape Beatles.

Mojave 3's song is called 'To Whom Should I Write?'

So that is definitely a new song? Any place on the web with the
full information on the comp?

Subject: Shine.MP3 is up! - Now tell me what you need!

Hi there.

Ok, Shine.MP3 is ready for your downloading pleasure.

http://www.flash.net/~agentc/slowdive.html

I already have Albatross.MP3 all lined up and ready to finish out the Holding
Our Breath EP. Except I haven't processed the version of Catch The Breeze that
appears on the EP, which indeed does sound different, mixed a little better
(IMHO) than the version on Just For A Day...

But instead of putting that up for a few days, I think most of you would
rather d/l songs you haven't heard at all...

And I am going to let YOU, the priveleged Avalyn listees, decide the order in
which I will process and post them.

***************
HOW IT WORKS:

This isn't a "vote", where you only get to pick one option - I'm not
interested in finding out which slowdive (I don't think we were meant to
capitalize "slowdive") EP is the most popular.

Rather, I want you to send an e-mail for each recording that you need. This
way I won't have to hold another referendum when I'm done with the recording
that the most people need.

To inform me of your needs, send a *TEXTLESS* e-mail (e-mail will not be read,
only counted) to my address (agentc@flash.net) with the subject line matching
the slowdive EP that you need according to the key below:

=============================
Outside Your Room: outside

Morningrise EP: morning

slowdive EP: slowdive

In Mind (non-remix): non

In Mind REMIXES: remix

5ep: 5ep
=============================

Please observe all lowercase lettering as the mail will be sorted by filters,
which might be case-sensitive...

example: you need the slowdive EP and the Morningrise EP, you send one e-mail
to agentc@flash.net (subject: slowdive) and another e-mail to agentc@flash.net
(subject: morning).

** NOTE: I have seperated In Mind from 5ep because I know that there are a lot
of us Americans who have country rain, good day sunshine, and missing you from
the U.S. Souvlaki release. Such people only need the track In Mind from 5ep,
and should "vote" according to that need.

** NOTE: When I post 5ep, I will include "some velvet morning", which I assume
is otherwise unavailable to people outside the U.S.

** NOTE: Avalyn 2 is like 8 minutes long - I know I won't be able to cram it
onto my site, so I need a brave volounteer, willing to stand up to the record
industry and all of it's evil power, to put up the MP3 for Avalyn 2 on their
site. It'll probably be 7-8MB.

Ok - take it e-z.

Enjoy the music.

Subject: Oslo live MP3s

Hi gang,
sorry about the delay with the info regarding the Slowdive live in
Oslo MP3s, but I had to wait for Rachel and the boys to say yes or
no to this "project" before proceeding.

To make a long story short, Rachel and Neil said it was OK to
spread the Oslo MP3s among the Avalyn list members!

So as this is a _list members only_ - you need to e-mail me for
the address to the FTP site where the files are available and
what username/password to use. Send your "gimme the goods"
message to me at: <chief@lysator.liu.se>

-------------------------------
*** DON'T REPLY TO THE LIST ***
-------------------------------

Sorry about shouting like that, but as the list is configured
to send replies automatically back to the list - it needs to
be said - or the list will be flooded with gimme the goods
messages. ;)

Credit where credit is due:
---------------------------
Luis <timethief@juno.com> created the MP3 files and uploaded
them to the FTP site, so let's hear it for Luis!

File information:
-----------------
Slowdive live [Oslo, Norway 18-Dec-93]
1. Machine Gun
2. Souvlalki Space Station
3. Slowdive
4. Avalyn
5. Catch The Breeze
6. Melon Yellow
7. Morningrise
8. She Calls

Each file is about 5MB, so you'll need about 40MB free for the
whole thing.

** IMPORTANT **
Please note that you may not spread the FTP site address,
your username or your password. I'll close your account as
soon as I see someone else using it.

Sounds hard, I know, but as the site and your account may
be used in future projects like this one, it's just plain
stupid to give the information away.

So, if you're interested, remember to send your "gimme the goods"
message to me at: <chief@lysator.liu.se>
