In a big takeover interview Rachel said it was a pricing thing. 7 songs
are considered a mini-album while more would be a full album and fall
into the higher price range.

After reading a few 4AD-L digests where people mention starry smooth
hound together with guitars and vocals, I realized the I really ment
Thievery Corporation's 'The Foundation' above. Heh.

starry smooth hound is good too though, but nothing like TC. Sorry
about the mistake there.

Come on now, does this really sound like a legitimate reason to you?
When you buy a car and then give people rides in it, do you expect them
to pay for part of your car payments? The most anyone I know expects is
for the riders to pay for gas money. If Dave charged the cost of blank
CDRs ($5-$7 I believe) plus postage then he wouldn't be ripping people
off.

The main reason we all love Slowdive is they make great music and having access to this music is very important. I'll admit that I bought the CDR because I can't find these releases anywhere. Whether someone makes money or not is their choice and they will suffer the flack they receive.I personally will shell out money for the music I love, regardless of the receipents choices. Creation is not going to make these songs available anytime soon and most people who have these songs want to *trade*. What if you don't have anything to trade?...you resort to spending money on unauthorized releases! I have been lucky that there are some very kind people who have made copies of live recordings for me, but most want something in return, money or other tapes. Why deny the fans this great music because of money issues? Money is meaningless to the feelings you get when you listen to Slowdive.

Plus the sound quality won't degrade like cassettes do........

well, first i'll start off by saying that i "bought" the cd boot as well.
(actually, i traded my original cd of blueday for the boot b/c of the extra
songs -- i'm not a collector by any means.)

anyway -- if dave was charging $10 or something, i don't know how much one
could object. but, if i remember correctly, he was charging $20. that's a
little different. i think that's a little high, but i don't think i'd jump
on him about it. he must have put some effort into it, right? put together
artwork for it... i dunno....

there are always people selling their collections in addition to many
places on the internet that sell these recordings..sure it may take some
work, but otherwise you are taking out your laziness by buying some type
of pirated CDR.
if these were 'unauthorized releases', then it'd be something different,
however, these are bonafide, legitimate singles that people are making
money from.

> Plus the sound quality won't degrade like cassettes do........

so you go from 'money is meaningless to the feelings you get when you
listen to slowdive' to 'i really care about 1 generation difference in a
cassette and a pirated cd-r?

I just saw some CDR's in a shop for about $10 each. Time to do it, make
the artwork, ship it, etc. makes about $15 seem resonable - I'd agree that
jumping all over him seems a bit silly. But whatever.

I also just got the Losing Today fanzine, which has a Mojave 3
interview. Some interesting stuff in there, including rachel stating she
is married (was this discussed?), and her response to "have you ever
thought of a slowdive best-of compilation (w/b-sides, rarities, live
tracks etc.)?" To which she replies with a resounding "NO!" and nothing
else! Ouch! She also mentions what she's into these days, etc, and there
are some nice pictures of her and neil! It's overall a really nice zine,
and has a ton of great interviews (shiFt/Should, Bethany Curve, Silvania,
Mojave 3, etc.) and reviews (Closedown, Lovesliescrushing, Mahogany, Half
String, Auburn Lull, etc etc etc.). They're for sale for $4.95 if anyone
is interested... (sorry for all the plugs lately!)

This is strange... there's this interview in Swedish on the web (or it
was at least there before, it's gone now for some reason) from when M3
were touring Scandinavia back in 96, where she said, in between everything
and nothing, (translated) "me and my man" (in Swedish you usually mean
"husband" when you say "man" in that way), but the guy who did the interview
claims it was a translation mistake from his side, when I asked him about it
but he never changed it on the web.

How new is this issue? Is it possible that whoever put together the
interview did it by picking up bits and pieces on the web?

Nope, it looks like a full-on interview, with real questions, etc. Ask
tenebre@pronet.it - he's on the list though...

Aloha fellow shoegazers!

Someone recently mentioned a review of Closedown in a
new issue of Losing Today. Are they putting new
material out? (I'd thought they'd already disbanded).
BYW, does anyone know where we can subscribed/get
issues of Losing Today?
