Okay, I see. The original - ie. the one the tapes were made from
originally - was a vinyl recording. Right? Luis?

It was orignally pressed on vinyl ... they sold or gave it away during
later gigs (at least from what I've read). My copy is a 1st generation
dub from the original vinyl.

Yes, Erik, you are correct.

Solarium - it's the band I'm in, and we're playing at the Cocodrie Tuesday
night (2/17). If you're into Mogwai, MBV, Slowdive, Stereolab type stuff
then you might like us but no guarantees ;) We've got a 7" single coming
out on Drive In Records but this is our first real gig, so come and through
tomatoes at us or whatever - it's cool as long as you go. What the hell
else are you doing on a Tuesday night anyway?

The Cocodrie is on Kearney at Broadway in rainy San Francisco....
I am pretty sure we are going on around 10:30-11:00 (3rd of 4 bands...)

if you do come to check us out, be sure to tell the doorman who you came to
see :)

thanks!

i was at the new SF main public library on valentine's day and i happened
to come across Psychedelic Sundae by Vanilla Fudge ( was Sonny Bono in
this band?). anyway, my point is that there was a song on it called "Some
Velvet Morning". is this just a coincidence or did Slowdive cover Vanilla
Fudge? (i've actually never heard either song, i got my souvlaki copy in
europe). i found a record on the street curb a couple of months ago, "The
Beat Goes On" by Vanilla Fudge and it is very strange. sampling of news
bits of presidents being assisnated, synthesizer blisteringly spurting out
a rendition of Fur Elise, all interlaced with weird sound and especially
Sonny Bono singing The Beat Goes On , a very disjointed fucked-up thing,
though not all that great musically, i found it extremely interesting. (of
course, Golden Hair is a syd barrett cover for those who didn't know)

No, Sonny Bono was not in Vanilla Fudge. "Some Velvet Morning" was
originally done by its writer, Lee Hazelwood, and Nancy Sinatra. It's
possible Slowdive were unaware of the Vanilla Fudge version as it was
an album track while the Hazelwood/Sinatra version was a single that
charted back in the sixties.

P.S. I love how Vanilla Fudge sings the line "Some velvet morning when
I'm straight." You just know that day will be a long time coming. (-8

Is there someone who's got the entire version of "tryin' to

"soundtrack" by GreGG Araki??

...I'd also like to have some information about the
"inexisting" band Lush!!! Only, if you know something..........

If there's anything else to say about any other band that sounds
like that.., just write me back!!!

Yes it was. That was what Luis was trying to say above, even though
you could interpret it as if he says they sold/gave away vinyl copies.
The word "tapes" should replace the second "it".

Cool - Drive In's got good taste, which leads me to believe I'd like
Solarium (even though the "references" above should be enough). ;)
But how can a simple Swede get to hear your band? A homepage with
soundclips somewhere?

Erik, I"ve seen this album at my local music store (well, it's not exactly

was thinking of buying it at one time...

Does it sound like the echoey slowdive...more like Just for a Day or
Souvlaki?

Thanks for the info!

I work at a record store and i got the chance to listen to that
(transistor) today and well, it doesn't sound anything like slowdive. The
music does sound somewhat comprable to Mojave 3, but there aren't any
effects pedals or anything like that (well, there are, they just aren't
very prominant). But don't let this turn you off, it's not that bad a
record, it's just this might be somewhat misleading saying that they sound
like slowdive. I think the similariies are negligible.

There is a chance that Grimble Grumble may tour with Windy and Carl in
April sometime, or at least for a few dates. If I find out any particulars,
I'll post them.
On another subject, I got my cassette version of Oslo when I saw
Slowdive at the Cabaret Metro in Chicago.
The live mix at the Chicago show had the guitars much more prominently
featured with the vocals a bit more buried, which is the opposite of Oslo.
Or, at least to my ears.
Lastly, check out a band called Discolor out of Germany. Shoegaze
guitars mixed with faint whisps of psychedelia and krautrock and whispery
vocals ( male ).

He pretty much covers it all on the album. Everything from deep and
dark to happy and jangly - single dreamy to massive walls.

Music Boulevard has sound clips (though unfortunately not "Flow"):
http://www.musicblvd.com/cgi-bin/tw/2581877887743630_43_451123

Tower Records lists it in the "available RealAudio files", but I
can't get it to work - maybe you'll have better luck?:
http://www.towerrecords.com/prd.i/pgen/tower/KPTKN549V6S12JHU000GQRJQG58LENX
S/album.html;t=;d=;album=1205390

The sad part with these (and most of them on the net) clips is that they
concentrate too much on the choruses of each song. Oh well...

The whole "hit song" Look Who's Perfect Now can be found here:
http://raft.vmg.co.uk/pieces/preview/rams/lookwho.ram

There's also a video clip available at:
http://www.real.com/showcase/music/interscope/index.html

//Erik <chief@lysator.liu.se>

P.S. Once again - just to make sure - Transister is *not* like Slowdive.
They're more like Sneaker Pimps mixed with Garbage. D.S.

Well, I never said it sounded like Slowdive. I said that Clark and Neil
Halstead write and play in a similar manner, and that is far away from
saying Trasister = Slowdive.

But you must be kidding when you say that there aren't any effects pedals
on the Transister album... right?
