funny! it's just that someone else described "ambient" as being stuff
like "missing you..." and "good day sunshine" and if the pixies have ever
done anything that could even be considered to be in that realm...
well... I never could find a copy at Wal-Mart

regarding this post I'd like to say that throughout the course of it all
I was disagreeing until I read the last line. If you look at those
photographs, the expressions on the faces of those "naked young women and
girls..." is NOT one of innocence captured but indeed of innocence lost,
or at least of innocence ignored. we live in a sick world, and things
like this really do numb us. So, although I don't necessarily agree with
the tone of this person's post, I must agree with the general idea...
and I thought they were just fine, but then I got to thinking about it...
just ideas...

In the movie The doom generation you can hear "Alison" from Souvlaki and
"blue skied an clear" from Pygmalion but only that track feature on the
soundtrack

Oh COME ON!!! was that last question really called for??? Obviously this
person must think of the listed bands as "ambient", you don't hafta knock them
with sarcasm. It is easy to see how some may consider these ambient, although
most of them fall into different genres of music categorization.

i can hardly believe no one mentioned Gusgus! Polydistortion has some neat
electronic creations on it. i, personally, love the whole album, but as for
ambient... the 10th song on the album, entitled "purple" is great. it has
that "in mind" feel to it.
someone said Flowchart. good recommendation. they are great.
ummmm, i think if you don't mind checking out an album for one song on it, you
might look into the most recent Boyracer album, with the song "we were
wrong"...that song is really pretty and floaty...
Main's Hz is a good album for ambient music. especially the first few tracks,
where he sings.

I think you guys missed the part where he/she said in the original post
that not all of these bands were ambient, some were rock, but he/she
felt they would be good recommendations for slowdive fans. Sorry I
don't have the orignal post.

Also along the lines of gusgus I'd have to mention Halou, a husband and
wife duo from San Francisco. Distorted beats and ethereal vocals and
sounds reminiscent of Cocteau Twins but with a darker/harsher edge.

I agree with whoever listed Third Eye Foundation as a band to check out. They
are incredibly organic, yet still acheive a Warp/Rephlex Records-like feel,
with rhythms that sometimes parallel Seefeel and Aphex Twin.

as for 'Doom Generation'....there was only one song by Slowdive, and it is
"Blue Skied An' Clear", which is off of Pygmallion. One of my favorite
Slowdive songs...

just in case people missed it the first time around, "bittersweet symphony"
is now owned by the rolling stones because of that sample, and they (or
their publishing company, at any rate) are the ones who sold the licensing
to nike.
so the verve haven't totally sold out yet. but they still suck! :) <sigh>
i miss storm in heaven....
