Once again I will throw in my two cents......SHINE is the greatest song
Slowdive ever did. One listen, and you are taken away to that happy place
that Happy Gilmore talks about in his show. MAybe not his interpretation of
his happy place, but you all get the idea!!!!

SHINE is beautiful beyond description.

Has anyone ever heard Silver Screen?

That is the most catchy, and most beautiful Slowdive song!

Dude, before you ship off your money do a search for slowdive at-

http://volcano.flashpoint.com/gemm/GEMM/cgi-bin/quickgemm.pl?wild=SELLER+BEACHBUM

You may be delightfully surprised at the results, I don't know. Last
time I did it it came back with a whole mess of stuff all over the
world.

Subject: Pygmalion influences

Pygmalion is my favourite slowdive album but that does not seem to be an
attitude that is generally shared on this list? For me Pymalion
represents an attitude toward songwriting that I had not previously
seen. It seemed in a way brave to do a song as sparse and repetitive as
Miranda or Trellisaze and yet for me these are among the most sublime
Slowdive songs. So while I appreciate Mojave 3 I can not help but to be
dissapointed that Slowdive did not stay together for at least one more
album. Mojave 3 are a very beautiful band but they are not exactly
minimalist and I cannot see them capturing the haunting atmoshphere of
Pygmalion which is something I feel was not developed nearly enough.
Having said that, does anyone know where we can look for more Pygmalion
like material? Pygmalion is really not dreampop... does anyone have any
ideas as to Pygalion influences or know of any other Pygmalion-esque
bands? The closest thing in my experience is the Cocteau's
"Victorialand"?

Another band that you might want to check out (if you haven't yet) is Talk
Talk. Their last two albums, Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock (and to a
certain degree, their third album, Colour of Spring) are influences on the
sound of Pygmalion. Another band to check out is Bark Psychosis
(particulaly the album Hex).

hi all...

i was listening to some stuff by bark psychosis, from the album "hex,"
and noticed a similar feel to "pygmalion." not as "experimental"
maybe, but still had that rainy day, minimal feel to it. i only heard
a few songs from a tape someone made for me. anyone know where i
could pick it up on CD?

I got mine a couple of years ago at a Best Buy so i guess that it couldn't
be too hard to find (but then again, i got my copy of Pygmalion at the same
store). It's a domestic release and is really, really good. You should
check it out. It might take a couple of listens, but it's well worth it.

I agree that Pygmalion is an incredible album, from both a pleasure
perspective and a perspective of artistic relevance. I don't know what
the influences were, some have recommended Flying Saucer Attack as
another Pygmalionesque band. While I have gotten into FSA and like them
very much, they really don't compare to Pygmalion. I like Mojave 3 very
much, but pygmalion is a masterpeice of creative artistry that will be
hard to rival. Hopefully, someday, someone will release an album of its
calibre.

i agree, "blue skied an' clear" was the first song i had ever heard from
slowdive [thanks to seeing _the doom generation_] and i was hooked the
second i heard it. "pygmalion" is definitely an underrated masterpiece.
i'm interested now in hearing FSA. any recomendations? kevin hufnagel

Pygmalion is really good and I like it alot.. but I really don't put it in the
same category as Just for a day and Souvlaki... It's ambient.. (except for the
few conventional songs on it)... I like it alot but It's just different from
their other stuff

well, if you're coming from a slowdive perspective, _chorus_ would be the
one to start with. either that or _further_. both great.

Wow! I totally agree with you there. "Victorialand" conjures quite the same
feel as "Pygmalion". Have you heard the Cocteau's "Moon and the Melodies"???
It is similar to that mellow, surreal sound of the aforementioned.

Speaking of "moon and the melodies", the pianist, Harold Budd, has a
whole bunch of releases that are fantastic as well. Check out "the
pearl" by Harold Budd and Brain Eno. Beautiful and atmospheric.
He recorded another cd the same year as "moon and the melodies" called
"lovely thunder" on which he dedicates a song to Simon. It sounds
basically like a re-record of one of the moon tracks.
