hello folks! anyone out there ever hear of a band called Blueshift
Signal? I have only ever heard two tracks by them , however, these were
two very intriguing tracks! One had been an instrumental that sounded
very much like Slowdive (along the lines of Eric's Song)...I would love
to know what they have released! Are they an American band? UK? have
they split up? I actually wrote in to their PO Box earlier this year
but never got a word back! I would even be keen on just getting dubs of
their material. Hope someone out there can help me out

I have heard of them...I was sent one of their ep's for review in my zine.
It contains 4 songs. Have you heard Knitting By Twilight? I believe
Blueshift Signal is a sideproject(?) for one of the members of KBT. Let me
know if you want their address. They are an American band. Or, if you want
a recording of the ep.

Has anyone else heard the Slowdive song Silver Screen? I have it on
a live bootleg, and it is soooo good. Just curious if anyone has a
cleaner copy of it or has heard it.
Anyone heard any new dreampopish bands as well?

The bands on Bedazzled that I have found to be very worthwhile are: An April
March, Siddal, and The Curtain Society. There could be others that are just
as good, but these are the only ones that I am familiar with. Both An April
March and Siddal are female fronted bands, while Curtain Society is fronted
by breathy male vocals.

I have a really good recording of the Sunday Flexi, you can hardly tell it
is from a flexi.
The Oslo recording seems to be the best quality Slowdive live tape out
there. Does anyone have any means of cleaning it up for cd. If someone makes
their own music on a 4-track or has a DAT or something maybe they could
clean it up.

I know a band out of San Francisco that are great! They have but 2
recordings, one on tape and one on CD, of their work. They are amazing
live!!!!! If you live in the bay area, definitely check them out...They are
DOROTHY'S MELTING.

Someone asked about dreampoppish bands?
some new school dreampop that I can think of... Bowerey Electric, Windy
& Carl (more droney though, less pop-on tour now), alot of the Bliss Out
stuff from Darla Records (including Windy & Carl, Fuxa,
Flowchart)...hmmm what else... well my memory stinks. I'll write with
more bands as they come to mind.

Hi, obviously the show has passed, but just to let you know (if you
didn't make it) it was at Club Komotion. The club's not even listed and
there was very little promotion for the show, yet there was a good
turnout for Windy & Carl. BTW the show was amazing! anyone else going
to see them?? I highly recommend it. Get ready to be blissed out.

I was just thinking to day that it is really a shame the Slowdive's cover
of Galaxie 500's "Fourth of July" will never see the light of day.(does
anyone know if this was actually recorded, or just planned). Anyway, this
just sounded so perfect to me. It could have quite possibly been the
finest five minutes of music ever recorded.

But you are sacrificing some of the music when you use Dolby. Dolby
recordings are cleaner, but it gets rid of that suface noise by removing
certain frequencies, which are unfortunatly also removed from the music.
I'll take that little bit of surface noise with all my frequencies anyday.
Besides, I have a good quality turntable, and the actual Sunday flexi
itself. In my opinion, this flexi inherantly sounds bad, as flexi's
generally do. I could dump a first generation copy onto my hard drive, and
send it to whoever on a zip disk, with virtually no loss. (Don't bother
emailing asking for copy like this yourself, it's too much of a pain in the
ass to do more than once.)
Of course, I'm assuming that no one is planning on making a profit off
this, because if they are, I won't have any part of it.

Lovesliescrushing:
Dreampop - pop = Lovesliescrushing. Ambient wall of sound stuff with
ethereal vocals. I really like them, a lot, but I find them difficult to
listen for extended periods of time (and I listen to stuff with a lot less
structure than this)
Astrobrite:
Scott from lovesliescrushing, I've only heard a couple songs on the radio,
but they sounded quite good.
Colfax Abbey:
I think they are alright, but they tend to bore me. They've got the early
Creation records sound down, kind of like the Boo Radleys meet the
Catherine Wheel, with about a quarter of the song writing talent.
SIANspheric:
Some Canadian folks who do a might fine Verve impression, while putting
there own spin on things. Very cool, they are supposed to have new EP
coming out soon.
Also check out Mahoganey and Silvania.
There are probably a dozen more, but after a few pints of Newcastle, my
memory is not to good. And Fuxa are not even remotely dreampop-ish. There
stuff is mainly moogs and other analog synths, with the acoustic guitars
every now and then.

If people are really interested in hearing the flexi perhaps they should
like ORDER IT! from say Parasol or that Sunday place. I doubt there's any
way you can clean up a flexi.
As for the rest of the live stuff, indeed Oslo sounds great and is pretty
funny thanx to that drunken guy who screams "Alison(?) I love you!" about
half a billion times. How much cleaner do you want than this? I'd say
this is as good as it gets...
Clean it up on a 4track, how? Let me know if you have any ideas I've got
one.
Other concerts that sound pretty good are: Brochrum(sp) and Bizarre
Alsdorf Fest, one of these is FM broadcast quality as is supposed to be a
show at San Francisco's Slim's.
I think the best quality you're going to find are the FM Broadcast ones,
There are possibly a few other ones, but I don't have them.

I don't think the Slim's one sounds anywhere near as good as the Oslo one,
although it does sound great. Also of possible inclusion on this CD should
be the Slowdive Peel Sessions! I don't know how many they did but I have 3
songs on tape, which don't sound great sound quality-wise but the actual
songs are done up sooo great! Better than any live gig versions I've
heard! Anyone have *good* copy of the Peel Session(s)??

Hey everyone->
This is something I've brought up on the My Bloody Valentine
mailing list. So far there are roughly 13 to 14 people interested in doing
this which isn't really enough, so I'm looking here for interested parties
as well. It's for people who are in bands, or do their own home-fi thing
on the 4-track, or whatever.
Please read on and if you have any questions, e-mail me privately.
Thanks!

Okay, here is my effort to actually make this work. I think I
tried this before, but it didn't work. Anyhow, I am going to take a survey
forst to see how many people are interested. If not enough interest is
generated, the project will not go through. But here's the deal:
I am attempting to organize a listee CD. It will consist of 20 spaces of
3.5 minutes, and each sapce will cost roughly $40-$50. You will receive 25
CDs which will consist of the following: raw CDs with 2 color printing on
them, a homedone "cover" in some sort of slip-bag packaging. This is the
least expensive way to do things and can be done easily. The pressing will
be of 500 copies.
If I get between 20 and 30 responses from this list (the extra 10 or so
because I know a bunch of people will back out here) then we will go ahead
and implement the actual project. If I get close to 20 responses, I may
ask on the Slowdive list also, since the list is similar in tastes, etc.
And just for the record, this is obviously a no-profit deal. I am
awaiting a price quote from the cheapest place I know for CD pressing. I
will then add cost of plastic bags, and we'll see what happens with the
artwork - I'm pretty sure I have an idea of who will be doing the artwork,
and possibly we can get it done for very very very cheap, depending what
everyone agrees to use.
Well, again, this is experimental, so let's have the responses! I can
think of *maybe* 10 people who would be into this, namely:
Ben Adrian, Lorraine "Closer", Mike "Four Head", Mahogany, Nathan
"Sidereal Day", Ian Pollard, ...okay, that's not so many! But anyhow, I'm
sure there are others I can't think of right now. Also, please don't be
shy - if you have a four track and like to make noise - hey! You can be on
your own CD! It doesn't have to be studio quality!
This idea *will* go into effect if enough interest is generated!
Repeat: This is *NOT* a Sugahbell repeat!!! :) If it is done in time, and
if the other idea happens, we can the CD release party be the listee
gathering we are currently discussing....
Anyhow, please e-mail PRIVATELY with interest to this!! Remember,
$50 is not a lot for 25 CDs! You can probably sell them for $3 and make a
profit of $25...
Just an idea...
Daniel
