Thanks for the tip. When doing this sort of thing, unless you have a T1,
it's best to just select T1, let it creep along, and then pull it out of
your browsers cache to watch it. Also, on the topic of streaming videos,
the folks at SonicNet have a new video site at http://www.streamland.com/
I haven't much time to check it out yet, but they have Bowery Electric and
Yo La Tengo stuff as well. They also have a page for requests as well. I
requested the "Morningrise" video, if a fair number of people go there and
request it, they'll probably put it up.

Cool. I just checked out (and dowloaded) the Alison video - requested
"Morningrise" there and I went to SonicNet and requested "Morningrise"
there as well. ;-) Great tips guys!

Joseph,
Not to sell myself (and bass players everywhere) short, but the
guitarists were far more responsible for the "sound" of Planet, I'm
Gone. Most of the time, I was too busy trying to anchor everything from
flying away into the ether :)
I have acquired a four track recently, however, and have been doing
some noodling of my own. In an unbelieveable case of being in the right
place(s) at the right time, I will hopefully being appearing on both the
DroneOn and Slowdive List Compilations soon under the name "Smothered in
Hugs."

Brian,
Well, the DroneOn comp was organized by one of the list elders and he
stopped taking submissions back on November 1st. Check out
www.no-fi.com for details on the list and compilation. As for the
Slowdive/MBV list disc, it is being put together by our own Daniel from
Claire de Leon Records. Send him some mail to see if they are any slots
left: eleven@grove.ufl.edu
hope that helps,
Andy

Sorry Mitch for the delay in reply, but I have been very busy lately and
so had hardly time to read my mails.
I am Kurt, and member of Sleeve, which is a Belgian shoegaze band in the
style of early Verve, Slowdive, Cocteaus, some Curve and MBV... We're
still working on some new songs (which are really more in the line of
the bands I mentioned) but we need to record them well. We have some
contacts with Alex Callier of Hooverphonic, but for the moment it's
silent... However we hope that within some months, we're able to record
a (new) demo (the old demo is not that representative any more)...
I'll let you know.
Kurt

Are there any Guitar players out there? I was looking through one of
the old digests and I found a post about recreating Slowdive's guitar
sounds. I woulld be really interested in talking to someone some more
about this, so email if you know ANYTHING. Also, does anyone have some
Guitar tab/chords for some Slowdive songs, Im just interested in the
chord relationships they use, thanks. If anyone can be of any help,
please email me soon.

Subject: help! bibliography for mbv/dreampop and gender?
hello peoples --
apologies for the cross-post. anyway, i'm writing a paper for my feminist
musicology class on gender in dreampop/shoegaze music, and i need help in
finding some sources. right now the theme is pretty vague, but it includes
stuff like the ethereal/divine She as well as female performers within the
genre (i'm hoping to find some sort of link between the two).
this is the little i have so far:
liz evans. _women, sex, and rock 'n' roll: in their own words_.
london: pandora, 1994.
simon reynolds. _blissed out: the raptures of rock_.
london: serpent's tail, 1990.
_____. _the sex revolts: gender, rebellion, and rock 'n' roll_.
cambridge: harvard univ. press, 1995.
steven shaviro. _doom patrols: a theoretical fiction about postmodernism_.
london: serpent's tail, 1997.
---
so can anyone help me out? i'd be eternally grateful....
thanks,
; ed
