Subject: the new "Souls" ?
I just found out about a new band called ESPINOZA from
Gothenburg who sounds _a lot_ like the sadly no-longer
active Souls. They received a 5 (out of 5) grade review
in Goteborgs Posten (demo reviews) recently - which
ought to say a lot as their 5 grade reviews is almost
always right on the money. Check out their site and

Yes, Luger has left their prominent officefacilites at Krysset,Sandviken
home of SAIK, StevePops, Elvert Under Ground, Tomas Ledin and more )
They moved some two weeks ago to (I think) Hoegbergsgatan, sharing office
with StarTracks.
So, hold you conspiration theories. Change is not always for the worse. ;)

Kent's really got some good company in the United Stage tour list...
Cajsalisa, Martin, Consoul and Puff Daddy. Can it really get any worse?
Bleuurgh. How come you never see any nasty comments regarding nepotism
about Cajsalisa? Her father is the head of TV3, and Stenbeck's right
hand. So howcome she gets all these soap-parts and a "music" career?
I'm happy though about Candysuck's British tour, they deserve a break.

Don't be mean to CajsaLisa. She has worked hard to come
where she is.
Don't forget that she's a real living person.

Just to straighten things out a bit, Cajsa-Lisa's father is the head of
TV4, and not TV 3. I'm not sure it makes any difference in this case ;-).

Okay,
so the band I'm in, Lousy, will do a show next saturday
(february 7th) at Underground in Goteborg. It's been almost
a year since last time and noone knows when it'll happen
again. We were supposed to be the only band playing that
night but for some reason Emrik (yeah, the Stonefunker)
and his new band will be playing too... some kind of jazz
I've been told. Anyways, you're all of course very welcome,
would be great to see some familiar faces there. ;)
I'm posting about this already because then I'll be able
to promote another thing too - the short film "En dumskalles
dod" that will be shown on the national Swedish channel TV2
_this_ saturday (iow tomorrow) at 22.35. Starring _me_ as a
stupid but kind thief and Lousy's ex-singer Olli (well, he
still was in the band then, -95 I think it was) as a smarter
but not that kind thief.
I'll stop now,
take care,
Magnus

I think, Reiner is going to have some fun. B.H. are playing at the
Studenterhuset and it's so big that I dont think, it's gonna be a
sold out like last year at the 1000fryd. Also because at the same
time, Billy Childlish and his band Thee Headcoats are playing the
1000 fryd. And the booze war is still going on, too ;-)

Subject: US CD Review: Fivel - "Fivel" (NONS)
And what have we here - yet another review of a US released NONS
album (courtesy of NONS USA):
Taken from the Minnesota Daily, January 29, 1998
Fivel (North of No South)
"Fivel"
Sweden's Fivel could be made to feel quite at home in the rock-friendly
Midwest. Their heavy-glam posturing and loopy attitude brings to mind
homegrown staples like House of Large Sizes; a willingness to write a
distorted guitar waltz (yes, a waltz) about Traci Lords (yes, that Traci
Lords) doesn't hurt their charm.
Nor does their almost-Japanese propensity for stringing together words in a
manner that's barely sensical but sensibly fun. Check the laugh riot "Alex,"
for example: "He's got a waterbed schizoid character / he tends to groove
his body parts / but he's making no success / has to do with his profile."
The harsher songs recall the better days of L7, with one notable difference:
L7 never had this much fun.

Subject: Cloudberry Jam live review
How nice of the Japanese to lend us CLOUDBERRY JAM for one evening, so that
they could play in their home town :-). Shamefully I admit that this is
only the second time I see them live during the 5.5 years I have been
living here. And, of these two gigs, this one was the best. Which makes
pure sense, because they have recently released their best album, IMO.
Like I suspected their groovy mix of pop, jazz/lounge and soul worked
perfectly well on stage. Not many people in the audience jumping around
wildly but that would, on the other hand, have looked rather stupid to this
kind of music. Of course a big crowd (with Linkopings "music elite" well
represented - I saw people from BAINES, CHICKENPOX, THE PUSJKINS, PHONE
(Jennies second band) and COACH BOB) that enjoyed what they heard. Most of
the set consisted of songs from the new album, with a couple of "oldies"
(like "Going further" and "This and that"). A couple of songs sounded a bit
lighter than on "The impossible shuffle" but that was expected, the number
of musicians needed for that sound is probably beyond the capacity of the
Herrgarn stage. The groove created by the band (plus a guy who made various
kinds of sounds with the use of maraccas and a record player) compensated
well for the loss of "heaviness" in the sound. The only _small_ complaints
I have is 1) that they did not play their lovely cover version of "Water"
(by DINOSAUR JR) and 2) that Jennie Medins voice perhaps isnt the most
dynamic one (but I still consider her to be one of the best female Swedish
vocalists so that is a very small complaint. It is just that she would
leave all the competition far behind if she could vary her voice a bit
more).
Btw, there is a reason to read Expressen Fredag and that is that it almost
always contains surprises in any direction. At least my jaws dropped down
to the level of my toes when I found out that Jennie Medin was "babe of the
week" this week. But then, of course, after having swallowed the first wave
of astonishment one must admit that that too makes perfect sense ;-).
(Guess I was mostly astonished about finding some perfect sense in that
spot).

instrumentala.

Hi!
I got this mail from a norwegian gal. She runs a small record company.
I don't recognize any of her bands, but maybe you know? Anything worth
checking out???

Relativt mye obskurt norsk... ;-)
Jeg begynte forst a gi ut punk/HC, blant annet band som Dead Gerhardsens,
Svartidaudir, Punchdrunk, Sic, boyen beng, Behind Bars og Crossbreed, men
siden har det blitt litt flere genre, med band som Origami, Grunt People,
Terranoidz og Drunk. Moro!

I couldn't help raising an eyebrow at this one. I just
have to say that Depeche Mode were much better when Vince
Clark still played with them. And they weren't very good
back then either.

I don't know why, but I never was forced to watch Alternative Nation ...
but, nowadays, I wonder, if there's sometimes scandinavian Indie on it?
Is that right? SO I will at least start my VCR running when it comes to
Alt. Nation and go with Fast forward through it ...
Because ... it seems, like some kind of god, or whoever is responsible
for that, doesn't want me to see anything like that! Like some of you
might know I was in Denmark for fun and for Bob Hund, but this very
evening, Friday that was, my car some kind of broke on the way to
Aalborg ... lucky I had my mobile-phone with me (in germany we call that
phone a "handy", harhar), so I talked with a very cute girl at a
"car-drivers-union" which sent me help, but it took very long, so it was
already too late to go on ... I was much more angry that evening, but
now, a few days later, I can only tell it this way, because denmark was
too nice, though ...
But: Damn!
And at least, I must read that Tornado is in Love with Little My, too
... it can't be true! Where's Ms. Niisku??

Well, even if I do not agree with Petters opinion about DM:s qualities and
about the fact that they were better in the early eighties, I must say that
I too was surprised. And before someone starts a flame war a la last year I
should add that, by saying this, I do not question peoples music taste. It
is not even a negative kind of surprise, on the contrary - I think this is
a very good "comeback" album. But I just wonder if there is any possibility
that we could get some info about how many people participated in the vote.
That might help in "evaluating" the results, not just this one but all of
them.

Yep, and it happens quite often too. Last week there were videos by BOB
HUND, VOBLER, SEIGMEN (and I think GUS GUS too. Or was that the week
before?). Though I should warn you - the quality of that show is very
uneven, sometimes very good, sometimes sucking badly. But it is the only Tv
program, covering this kind of music, which is transmitted during the time
of the day when I watch TV: after midnight. So I see it almost every week.
/Micke, who thinks that the video to APHEX TWIN "Come to daddy" could make
any TV show watchable

I think there's really cool to see that Motorpsycho did so well in this
poll. Didn't expect that. A new Motorpsycho album will be released the
23rd.
