I haven't checked out the site yet, but I heard about it a couple of
weeks ago when I attented a presentation by some Ericsson executive.

My employer, Ericsson, have finally realized that Internet means big
business and big bucks (and of course it is also a competitor to Ericsson's
core business, traditional switched telephony), so "we" are rapidly moving
in on that market with a whole range of products.

Now as for moonfire.com I'm not sure how the story went. But apparently it
is a private initiative; there was this girl/woman in the US who wanted to
create a music site - fully equipped with multimedia features - devoted to
Swedish music. And I believe she simply asked someone at Ericsson if there
was any interest in sponsoring her site. And lo and behold, someone realized
that this was probably a good way for Ericsson to increase the net.community's
awareness about "our" company as a main player on this arena... and thus
to get rid of the (mis)conception about Ericsson as an immobile dinosaur
stuck in the past. It was really a strategic decision.
Seems liked it worked, or what do you say Chief? :)

Subject: Independent

Hello!

I have to give my point of view in the debate on what's "indie".

First, I agree with Erik, you can't tell if a band is independent
just by looking at what label they are signed to. Many bands have
made out their own agreements with their label, not using any
"standard contracts".

The thing is, some bands don't want to be independent. Maybe they
think that music is the only thing they really care about. So they
let other people control all other parts, like economy, promotion,
videos, record covers etc.

Other bands want to have total control. They design their own
videos and covers, and also have control of the business and
promotion. Maybe they have an own label, or they make an agreement
with a big label, where they reserve their independency in the
contract.

The differences between these extremes are really enormous, most
bands find themselves somewhere inbetween. And good bands can be
found evrywhere, on tiny indie labels, as well as on major
multinational companies. A band doesn´t have to be good, just
because they're indie, maybe they lack something important like
talent. And a band doesn't have to be bad because they're not
indie. Look at the world's best band for instance; The Jesus &
Mary Chain. They're signed to Warner Brothers!

Kindly

Martin Aamot.

Micke Rehnstrom had some theories about indie :

Personally I think it's a really stupid word and definition.

-What music do you listen to?

-Indie.

????!!!???

Categorising music is so boring and pointless.

Hi, people all over scandinavia and also all over the world ....

Yeah, I'm new on this list, don't want a discussion about what's indie,
what's not ... I listen to many different kinds o' music, many of them
are not indie anymore, but that should not be the problem ... I don't
know much scan-bands, but some, and I like them very much, and I always
want to know much about scandinavia at all ... (the few I know are i.e.
Bel Canto, On trial, Apulanta, Bjoerk, Teho Sekoitin and so on ... so
you see, very varied ...)

I hope to get some new out of here ... see you soon ...

boring perhaps, but very useful sometimes. everytime i get SA (sound
affects) mag, are there always some bands mentioned in one way or another
i've never heard of. and if it somewhere is mentioned "...sounds a little
like the early stooges..." i would try like hell to find it, but if it
saids "sounds like caroline af ugglas" would i only bye it if i need to
puke...

I agree. But what I react upon is the more the definitions such as
Indie, Lo-Fi, EMO, Skatecore, Brandcore, Slowfuckmetal...
The way people want to put labels on bands and categorise them.

She's a fake. She's a spoiled Ostermalm rich kid with ambitions. Fuck,
she's even part of the gentry. She's not original, she's constipated
beyond belief. And the music's crap. Her English pronunciation is
non-existent. And as for her interviews I get the impression she's
stupid, dumb with some arty glazing. She is to music what Mona Sahlin
is to politics.

But it's no problem really, we won't have to put up with her for long.
She's had her 15 seconds of fame, everyone will have forgotten her in
a matter of weeks.

I believe she and her sister Angelica (weather girl at TV3) are from
Bromma actually. Their mother Yvonne was the logoped (speech therapist?) at my
school Bromma Gymnasium, so it's kind of strange if Caroline has bad
pronounciation. One of the sisters (can't remember which one) had a crush on
me back then, even though I was much older, so I had to suffer some severe
telephone terror for a few weeks... heh!

But speaking of the music... Now I've never heard Caroline af Ugglas so I
don't what the fuss is all about. But I'm amazed that some people feel so
provoked and threatened by her. Give her a break... she's obviously trying
hard to make a career in showbiz and what's wrong with that? What if she
was an ambitious poor girl from Norsborg instead... would that make her more
credible?

"Battre lyssna till den strang som brast, an att aldrig spanna en bage"
or whatever now that saying goes like.
