Andy Watts (drums and backing vocals) has left the band. As far as I know
they haven't found anyone replacing him yet.

Yup yup, it's true. He's moving back to Umea to continue his studies
and that's why he had to (officially) quit the band. They won't split
up because of it - or someone would have said something about it. :-)
The last official gig with him was at the Studion 3-year anniversary
October 3rd.

* Coo Enters The Studio Again!
----------------------------
Finnish supernatural dreamish and floating guitar-heroes Coo are
going back into the studio to record their second EP. If everything
goes as planned, they'll be spending days and nights there starting
the end of this month (October). The EP will contain three (3) songs
of which two (2) are older songs (played live but never released)
and one shiny brand new. When it's going to hit the stores? Don't
know, but stay tuned.

Today's changes in a bundle - that's right, right here, right now.

* The Hellacopters tour dates were wrong
--------------------------------------
The Hellacopters are going on tour in October and November - _not_
November and December as previously stated. They released their
latest album "Payin The Dues" October 2nd and nothing else, so
if you have seen something else somewhere, just forget about it.

The tour premiere is 30/10 at KB in Malmo! Even though they _do_ play
in Copenhagen the night before.

29/10 Copenhagen - Loppen (DK)
30/10 Malmo - KB
31/10 Lund - Palladium
1/11 Goteborg - Chalmers
2/11 Oslo - John Dee / Rockefeller (N)
4/11 Linkoping - Skylten
5/11 Uppsala - Sten Sture
6/11 Gavle - Etage
7/11 Soderhamn - Statt
8/11 Sundsvall - Pipeline
9/11 Orebro - Contan
10/11 Falun - Ungdomens Hus
11/11 Umea - Corona

Subject: Enter and Prow Gig

Hi there!

I know this is late news, but it was uncertain until last night, if the
place the gig will be, would be opened for the gig. Well it will.

Enter (Fin) and The Prow (Fin) will play in Kerubi in Joensuu
Saturday 11th of October. Entrance fee is 15 fim.

The Prow is an industrial-rock band from Kuopio. I saw them last summer
at Ilosaarirock, and they were awesome. Two very good drummers, guitarist,
bass-player, synth/sample guy and a singer/shouter. Nice rhythmic thing.
Lot's of power and groove.

Enter is from Joensuu and released it's first CD (Yah-Hah!, META009-CD)
in August. Millions of guitars and that rock-powerpunk-spaceavenue thing.
Check it (should be available via SMD).

Welcome!

Yours, Pete

hmm, correct me if i am wrong, but i am pretty sure he is in kevlar,
featured on scary cassettes' "2.95 dollar sounds" with the very competent
"line of the chalk". kevlar recently released a 7" by themselves with a new
version of "
line of the chalk" along with two other songs, but imho the 7"
is way too thin and clean sounding in comparison. sadly i might add.

Hey,

well, I really don't like Kent at all so I'm not gonna say anything
about that, but I was just curious if anyone knows if Kent are
influenced by Sunny Day Real Estate? I'm not a fan of SDRE but I
listened to a record (the pink one) I have with them a couple of
days ago and everything sounded... Kent. So, am I in need of a
hearing aid or have anyone else noticed this too?

New subject:

today at work I heard a couple of words said in an interview
on the Swedish national radio (P3) show "Radio Europa" (boy...
is that a crappy show or what?!?! There's gotta be better music
made in Europe than the stuff they usually play...) with someone
from the finnish band Supperheads. The subject of the interview
was "why don't bands from Finland make it big abroad like Swedish
bands"
and, well, the Supperhead said that Finnish musicians
could learn a lot from Curre Lindstrom, the Swedish guy managing
the Finnish national hockey team. Thought that was pretty funny.
Especially taken out of context. :) It had something to do with
taking what you got and make it even better I think, so that's
probably not a bad advice. For anyone. They played a song with
the Supperheads too, not my bag of toasts, better than the usual
Radio Europa-stuff, but to me it sounded like an average Swedish
Popsicle-influenced wimp/indie-band.. but since it's not my cup
of whatever I won't say anything about that. :)

BTW, I don't like Weeping Willows. Ah... what a relief to
finally go public with that. :)

Oh well,

Magnus

Today's good news in a bundle - that's right, right here, right now.

* Baby Jesus with new material
----------------------------
Baby Jesus are writing new material at the moment. They are
also planning to try it out live before they record it, so
expect to see them in the gig guides again in the near future.

* Bjork concert moved to a new date and bigger venue
--------------------------------------------------
Due to the massive interest for Bjork's concert in Sweden, Motor
Booking Agency has moved the concert date and venue. The new date
is Saturday November 22nd, and the new venue is Arenan in Stockholm.
This means that 1.000 more tickets will be sold (bought tickets are
still valid) and that there's no age limit.

More information: Micke Levine, promotion, Motor +46-(0)31-7016950.

* Cloudberry Jam got their own domain
-----------------------------------
That's right, you heard me - the band has registered their own
Internet domain, which is "cloudberryjam.se". So when you're
looking for their website the next time, the thing to do is to
use http://cloudberryjam.se.

As soon as their mail server is up and running, each band member
will have a personal e-mail address (for example: Jennie Medin will
have: jennie.medin@cloudberryjam.se). You can of course also contact
the whole band at cloudberryjam@cloudberryjam.se.

More information: http://cloudberryjam.se

* New Bands on Tour
-----------------
Loads - check out the gig guides:

Today's half-bad news in a bundle - that's right, right here, right now.

* Dorian Records - what's up?
---------------------------
Finally news about the indie compilations from Dorian Records!
Apparently, the label has had loads of financial problems lately
(all of them because of the record store's windows being smashed
several times, and no money back on the insurance), which has
forced owner Roger Gunnarsson to drop the label completely. (!)
A last compilation will be released, and it's actually a 2CD one.
That is to say that the two previously planned compilations are
no longer going to be made, but one disc will have twee-pop and
one more rockier bands, in this 2CD.

Ready for the final Dorian compilation are:
Club 8, Red Sleeping Beauty, Soulkitchen, Acid House Kings,
Daniel Saturn, Chewinggum Weekend, Pimms, Novelle, Smiler,
Halibut, Nixon, Monostar, Maelstrom, First Third, Pyle's Gold,
Wilson, Paste, Doyle, Picket, Loudean, Amber, Gentle Tuesday
and Saliva.

Almost ready are:
Backfish, Wellmeant, Aquadays, Eggstone, Cessna (SF),
Lemonator (SF) and Dada Girl (SF).

No release date is set yet, but it is said to be out "before
christmas"
.

* Novelle "Love Stories" EP sleeve problems
-----------------------------------------
Novelle from Halmstad recently released their debut EP "Love
Stories EP"
on Harry Lime Records. A few copies reached record
stores before a couple of mistakes with the sleeve were
discovered. First, it was a cardboard sleeve. The front showed
a picture and nothing else. The back had no indication to what
band was on the record. No band name anywhere that is. It should
have been an ordinary jewel-box with the picture _plus_ "Novelle"
stated on the front of the sleeve. So it went back to the
pressing plant, and now the new version is ready for release.
In case you find/have the first version, you sure have a real
rarity on your hands.

Today's bad news in a bundle - that's right, right here, right now.

Sounds _very_ "indie", IMO :-). Reminds me of those old NEW ORDER records
where it is almost impossible to find any sensible information at all on

I read recently that the cardboard sleeve for "Blue Monday" (which is a
sort of 5 1/4" floppy disk-looking affair with a cut-out section, and as
Micke says has no text at all on front, back or inner sleeve) was so
expensive to produce that Factory Records and New order themselves actually
made no money at all from each sale -- this despite it being the
biggest-selling 12"
single ever ;-)

Subject: Backfish review

Thought that it might be time to post a review of a concert I watched a few
days ago at Herrgarn (as usual): BACKFISH from Skelleftea (I think).

First of all: if you do not fall for the charm of this band you must have a
heart of stone. Four girls and one guy playing guitar pop with harmonies
and choruses that get stuck in your head immediately. Since I have not
heard any of their material from before the "
Ken Stringfellow era" and not
even the whole album, "
It's Emilys" (produced by Stringfellow), I am not
going to take part in the debate about whether he has given them a better
or a worse sound. But what I can hear is that they sound tighter and
rougher live than they do on the songs I have heard from the album. Someone
mentioned Juliana Hatfield as a reference and I would not say that that is
wrong. BACKFISH's sound contains the same kind of meeting between the soft,
here represented by Kathrine Bergstroms bright and beautiful voice and the
beautiful pop harmonies, and the rough and loud guitar walls. This becomes
especially apparent in tonight's favourite of mine: "
Disco", which sounds a
lot heavier than on the "
Add it" single (Btw, is _that_ indie or what?:
placing this brilliant pop song as a single B-side!!). I would not say that
this gig is great all the way through, there are some songs in the middle
that sounds quite boring to me, but it is still the best Swedish _pop_ gig
I have seen since, well, EGGSTONE this summer and I really recommend you to
go and see BACKFISH if you can.

I am not sure whether that fourth girl, the one who played keyboards, is a
member of the band. She has never been featured in any articles about the
band. But I do hope she is a new member, those keyboards really added
something to the sound. In some cases the harmonies were made more clear
and apparent. In others the keyboard twisted the song in a way that made me
think of HONEY IS COOL. Another very pleasant evening at Herrgarn, indeed
(unfortunately also the smallest audience this season, so far. But those
who came enjoyed it).

A while back there was a lot of excited talk about Bob Hund recording an
English language album which got me about as excited as I've been in years
but after the initial burst of information, it's been pretty quiet on that
front. My question is, I guess, if anyone knows if that's still a plan
that's in the works and in that case if there have been any release dates
or anything set... I'd love to know...

Hi!

Robot's release party for the debut album Automagic was yesterday in
Gothenburg. There will be a party in Stockholm as well, but who cares -
there will not be guests like this: Nina, Louise, Pontus, Johan and Daniel
from Fidget along with Martin and Martin from Surreal playing two Robot
covers (Gross + Members of the stars), could life be more enjoyable than
this performance with four guitars instead of keyboard? Yes, when Robot
enters the stage playing Fidget's Figure Four Leglock and Surreal's Pittbulls
& Landrovers! But hey, how could the free beers be gone before I got there
(19.30)?

work before you send the addresses to me. just include the name of the band

Subject: Robot review

Yep, it is that bloody maniac bombing the list with live reviews again.
Actually, I am receptive for feedback about these reviews. With exception
for one person I have no clue of what you all think about it. Please, mail
me personally and tell me. I can stand criticism, as long as it is
constructive. Meanwhile, here is another review of a Herrgarn gig:

ROBOT are three guys (and a drum machine) from Gothenburg who mixes synth
pop and guitar pop in a way that reminds me slightly of LUDOX (from
Denmark), though the sound is not exactly the same. They also share, with
the danes, the love for old gadgets from the 1980s, I understand that ROBOT
uses a Commodore-64 as an instrument on their album.

Anyways, I am not sure whether I have too high expectations on bands
closely related to the synth genre but I was disappointed about this gig.
Some songs were quite good, I am thinking of the songs where the guitar was
in the background and the keyboard (Roland Juno-60) played the main part.
But as soon as the songs were harder it sounded rather monotonous.
Actually, since the band already has a drum machine and a bass guitar, I
cannot really see the point in using the real guitar as a rhythm
instrument, which was most oftenly done last night. Drum machines are
monotonous, therefore synth bands use their instruments to create harmonies
that goes beyond, and withdraws attention from, the drum beats. This could
also be done with the help from a guitar. Otherwise, why not do like
another swedish band: KPIST, which has proved that it is possible to rock
hard without the use of any guitars at all? As I said: some songs good, the
rest rather boring in the long run.

Up next week at Herrgarn:
Tuesday (21st): Darling tour, featuring FIDGET, FIVEL, LOUDEAN and HONEYCAVE
Thursday (23rd): THE DROWNERS

Talking about tape chains...

The Scandinavian Indie (for your soul) compilation tape _will_
be sent out eventually. I have a couple of "
add me to the chain"
messages still waiting for confirmation from me - I just haven't
had the time to reply to a lot of my e-mail lately.

But as it will probably take another week before the tape is
finally sent, I still accept "
please add me to the chain, here's

to the list some time ago - so if you want the info again,

Their label owner/manager Hansi Friberg said it had been their worst gig
ever (in his eyes/ears). I can't say that I agree/disagree as it was the
first time I saw the band, but it wasnt't _that_ bad.

Though I did feel they would be a lot better off with two more members -
one more on guitar and a real drummer. But, of course, then their whole
synth-based rock band idea would fall apart. Though I'd think they would
be better none the less. Like Salt but with a male singer.

Someone told me they had tried it with a real drummer, but that it just
didn't work.

You know, I actually had one personal favourite, the last song before
they went off stage the first time. I think it was called "
New Robots",
perhaps with a "
The" added. And that was the most guitar-filled,
monotonous song of them all. Stereolab-esque in the monotony world. :-)
