Come on, this is pure advertising propaganda, not news at all. And
besides, somebody needs to show Motor's press officer where the caps

PS I finally worked out why 'Not Forever' sounded familiar.
It's 'I saw Mommy kissing Santa Claus'. Really, you listen and see!

There was a feature on them in the Stockholm newspaper Metro today.

Well, it said that they were discovered by the daughter of a record company
official, cause he'd taken home a bunch of demo tapes from work, and she
sat down and listened to the stuff.
So the company (Soap, i guess?!) wanted to release stuff immediately, and
since the quality of the demo was so good, they just put it out like that,
and it became...

Hmm, this sounds really interesting. I'm working on the Baltic pages right
now and I have to include this club. Do you happen to have an address or
that kind of information for it? And every third song Latvian indie? That
means that there's a lot of indie music over there! And why haven't we

Yep... it's the old T&C club II right across the streat from the
Highbury/Islington Tube station. Don't know if the Wannadies play there
though, but it's a cool place. One of the more or less famous London

2 Salt (Honour me, So)
3 Popundret (I say no, Furball)
4 Blissful
5 Cinnamon
6 The Bear Quartet (One final Sandi)
Men jag tycker faktiskt att det vore mycket mer intressant med alla
band som jag aldrig får höra! Iaf tycker jag att det går bättre
_utan_ Cardigans, Wannadies, Broder Daniel, Souls, Puffin, Blithe,
Brainpool, Mufflon 5. Och se till att inte allting är på engelska!
Sätt mig på listan alltså!

He he he, no the close-up of one band members erect penis (I'm not saying
which one's) is still there. The layout is still the same.
It was more like the wrong texture on the cover. It was supposed to be a
cardboard type of cover, but the ones that they shipped back had kind of a
glossy finish instead.
Btw, saw Swervedriver put on a good show last night, in front of surprisingly
many people. As expected two other from the hard core of scan-indie
Stockholmers were there, Jan & Ludde. I wonder if Jan got his interview?
I think Morten is in for a treat when they play Loppen in Christiania tonight
(especially for that price; we had to pay 130 SEK).

The street is Skarnu Iela, in "old town Riga", right by the Dome Square.
It's also advertised in a magazine called Riga In Your Pocket, if you bring
the advertisement, you get $2 reduction at the entrance (which gives an
entrance of $1 weekdays, $2 weekends !).
>And every third song Latvian indie? That means that there's a lot of indie

Hmm, well it sounded like indie to me, at least. Maybe some of the stuff is
considered mainstream pop by the latvians themselves, but considering that
music industry is not that big there yet, it's more like garage/underground
compared to western pop music. and the strange language makes it even more
awkward.
On weekdays, they have gigs 3 nights a week. Weekends have maybe a short
act, but is mainly confined to the dancefloor. We witnessed a band called
"Dievs Na Machinas", i think i told you about them. A crossover, something
like NIN with Jesus Lizard. OK, but the audience was very calm, they even
sat on the floor.

Yeah, i sneaked in backstage afterwards and asked a few questions. I'll
type down the answers, just have to listen thru the tape.
They are great guys, but maybe they were a bit "detatched" during the gig,
the first half at least. In the beginning they didn't even look at the
audience, but midway in (...Never Lose that Feeling) it changed, and the
groove became massive.
The last song were awesome, much more drums than the album versions, and a
fat distinct bass. Swedish Radio P3 Live recorded (check it out, Erik!), so
this event is documented for the future.

I did something even worse! I mailed my copy to a friend in the UK
awhile back, thinking I would find another copy - and I did, and that
one I mailed to a friend in the US, thinking I would find yet another
copy - and I did! That one I gave to my girlfriend as a present, because

this time I did not! So I'm without a copy, but I borrow my girlfriend's

Arvika Festival 96 - announced that the ticket prices this year are the same
as last year. That means 345 SEK in advance or 395 SEK
at the gates. A homepage with information about the
festival and everything surrounding it is in the works
right now, and will be ready some time during February.
Sound Affects - probably the best Swedish Pop magazine is known for their
very irregular release schedule, and it is soon over one
year since the last issue, so I decided to call them up and
ask what's going on. They said the new issue is at the
printing house right now, and that it will be out in
February. After that, they'll try to have one issue out
in March and one in April. Those who live will see.
Vinterbadarna - the ones who arrange the Emmaboda Festival, arrange once
again a smaller one-day festival in V{xj| on March 22nd.
The line-up (right now) looks like this: Lousy, Ludo X,
Starmarket, New Bomb Turks and Tamboureens.

Wow! 130 SEK? Pretty expensive. Here in Linkoping it was 70 SEK. How come
they play for free at Loppen? Free ... umm ... substances? :-) The guys

Thanks for the information! I'll add it to the (now under construction)

Yes, that's true. So they're normally singing in their native language?
I hope that "underground organisation record label" will send me some
music so I'll be able to hear this!

The tickets, and the list of bands booked this far, were supposed to be
available from January 31st, i.e yesterday, so my guess is that there
should be posters up at your local recordstores by now, or at least soon.

You mean Erik has access to Kvicksilver, Goddag-Adj|, and Vem vill
bliva stor??? That _would_ be nice! These (for the uninitiated) are
songs which as far as I know haven't been released yet <drrrrum,
drrrum fingers>. Then again the album _must_ be coming out soon.

Nah, i was just wishing! ;) I realize that they aren't released, but at
least i can sit here and listen to my sucking livetapes and wait for
more...
Those songs are _GREAT_, BTW! Kivcksilver has the most evil, stalking,
staggering bassline ever heard. They _must_ release it. I haven't seen Bob
Hund since june last year!

Okay, for the Dallas tape contact:
Kings of Shortwaving
Vilde 82-74
Tallinn EE0033
Estonia
Borax, on the other hand, can be reached at:
Heven Offbeats
EE0090 P.O. Box 3302
Tallinn
Estonia
I honestly don't have an idea as to what these tapes might cost but I guess
five bucks or so should do the trick...
There will be tracks by both of these bands on the Baltic tape which
will soon be released into circulation, btw. 12 names on the list so far,
still a few more wouldn't hurt...;)

I agree. I mean, Salt is a Luger booked band. :-) The problem is, I have
no idea if they are on the Internet or not? That's the easiest way, at
least for me, to handle the booking agencies tour date lists. I'll call
them up and ask about that though.

Nothing! I've called them several times, but the answers have always been
"soon", "we're working on it" and so on. I'll try again though. No bands
are booked yet, as far as I know.

Yeah, that matches somewhat what Adam told me - they have to get "into" the
music first, _then_ it kicks.

As you now know, no, I haven't access to them Bob Hund tracks. :-(
But this is the discussion we're going to have once we have decided

Thanks for the addresses! I've received a whole bunch of email from people
in Latvia lately, requesting that I'd include more information about Baltic
independent music, but without information (like this), I'm lost! Thanks!
By the way, do you mean US $5.00 / tape?

Great! Maybe I should wait for the tape, and see what they sound like
before getting their demo tapes? Hmm, or maybe not. As there's need for
info for the pages, I guess I'll send for the tapes anyway. :-) Sorry

Hi, my name is Magnus Skarbo and I'd like to announce my presence on the
list. I live in Uppsala and use to visit the local rockmecca Kalmar Nation a
lot. I've been studying social science for..too long. I started a band a year
ago, "Blake Carringtons". We are quite obscure but we wanted it that way so
that we could become a real band (learn how to play) in the future. We have
played some cool gigs though. Kalmar Nation with a band called "small"(U.S),
and together with a union carbide constellation called"sex dwarfs". We
played a consert in Linkoping 11/1, herrgar'n. Some majors showed some
interest in our first demo, but you now..nothing happened. Now were
releasing our new material, and soon there will be a video. Now were going
for it.
Is there anyone who can guide us to some cool recordcompanies, clubs or
whatever outside Sweden, for example in Denmark, Norway, Finland or Latvia?
Let's have fun. Let's write.

Well I have been kind of silent on this list until now. The name is

Actually Luger got their Internet access just this week and they will have
some kind of tour list on e-mail quite soon. Their adress:
luger.production@luger.se
The Luger crew is old freinds of mine and therefore I will go up next week
and try to help them out. They are pretty confused about this Internet stuff
right now but hopefully they will have both an existent tour list and a
www-site very soon.
Bye the way. There is a new issue of Stokage on Benno
(http://www.mc.hik.se/benno/). Articles about Lousy, Blithe and aBLe,
reviews and other stuff. Right now it's only the Swedish version out, but
the English one will be there within a couple of days.
