Well, here it is, Issue number 3!!! I'm glad that it has made it this
far! And to think that it all started as a hobby. I'd like to take this
chance to introduce everyone to a new member to the tSL writting staff,
Mutilatír. Welcome! Also, I'm still looking for a few more quality writters,
if you think you have the talent, then submit something damnit!! :) And I've
noticed that tSL has been getting around on ALOT of boardz! All I say is
COOL!! The more the merrier!! Although, if you carry tSL on yer board, and
would like to be an "Official" tSL outlet, then I need yer nfo and I need to
ok it. With an "Official" tSL outlet, you will recieve:

1) A custom made ANSi uploaded to you advertising that you are an
"Official" tSL outlet. (I need BBS nfo.) that is yours to keep.
2) New Issues available to you same day service as released. (815,
I'll even upload it for ya!)
3) Your BBS listed in my "Where to get tSL" department starting in
Issue 4!!!
4) The good, warm feeling that comes with knowing that you carry
one of the nations fastest growing E-mags!!!
5) One genuine "Blow-Up Betty" with real sucking action. (While

Now that I'm done with the plug, I need to explain a few things that have
been going on here at tSL headquarters....
úù> Neko has created VOIDNet and an area has been added for the
discussion of tSL topics. The area is called V_SLURK and you can dl
nfo on getting VOIDNet on ALMOST any 815 BBS, or call Pay-No-Mind BBS.
If your SysOp doesn't have VOIDNet, bug him to get it!
úù> tSL now has acs to InterNet mail via FIDONet. The address is:
IamXTC@n986.f2210.z1.fidonet.org
úù> The tSL Editor is easier then ever to get ahold of via E-Mail. I
can be reached on PNM as IamXTC, over VOIDNet in V_SLURK as IamXTC or
Moderator or at the InterNet address above, along with numorous
FIDONet bases.
úù> Hacksaw has had a slight misfortune and now has no computer, but he
assures me that he will have a computer and article by the release of
issue 4.
úù> Deadhead, the once again PReZ of T$i, has returned and is starting
his own E-Mag titled "Shadowz" for the underground. It currently has
a release date of November 1st. I will be writting for both E-Mags
and tSL will be taking a slight (I do mean slight) turn to the serious
side. BTW, Welcome back Deadhead!!!
úù> And last but definatly not least, Neko failed to submit an article
for this issue!!!! What went wrong?!?!?!?! :) j/k...He's been VERY
busy with school, the BBS and VOIDNet. I'm sure that he will be back
for issue 4, but I haven't heard any promises.

"A Hacker's Holiday"

All Hallow's Eve, a holiday reconized by all as Halloween, seems to be,
in my opinion, a true hacker's holiday. Some say it's because today's youth
is too obsessed with depression and darkness. I disagree on the grounds that
most of the hackers I know are in their early to late twenties, not really
"today's youth"! I in fact do like "the dark side" of things but am hardly
obsessed with it. And depression has, until recently, just been a way of life
for me, and not by choice.
My personal opinion, for what it's worth, is that so many hacker's love
Halloween because alot of us are in fact fascinated by the darkness that
surrounds this holiday. If we didn't like hiding in the dark, most of us
wouldn't have handles, we'd use our names, and we would talk to everyone we
know about how we just hacked the city's "ChamberLink BBS" and was
dissapointed that there was nothing interesting (Except one letter that
"Charlie" was writting to his girlfriend/spouse/mistriss saved in .TXT format!)
on the harddrive. Besides, it's illegal and that in itself is somewhat dark,
so most of us wouldn't hack to start with. And until the fedz discover that
we don't hack systems to destroy anything (I only delete system logs and the
such, that is evidence that I was there) but rather to explore an unknown
"world" if you would like to call it that, hacking will be illegal and thus,
will be also dark.
Also, most hackers, don't JUST hack. Most are also into anarchy,
phreaking and other related topics. Considering the fact that Halloween is
notorious for pranks, then this seems to be the prime time of the year to get
revenge on that certain "lamer" whose been posting that they are going to hack
a board, and are carrying on a conversation with the SysOp of the board
without knowing it! Or, that person who thinks that everyone likes them, but
really annoys the hell out of everyone to the point that they hate him! (Mr.
Rush maybe?) Pranks are fun but why must we center all our activities around
this holiday? Like the old Ministry song goes, "Everyday is Halloween".
Could it be that well know fact that the police will just dismiss it as a
"Halloween prank" as long as their is not alot of permanent damage? Phuck
that!! If I pull a prank on someone, I want them to know that this is not
just another "Halloween prank" and would like some fear instilled in them,
knowing that it could happen again at anytime!!!
Well, I'm about out of time and space for this installment of "Chatting a
one sided conversation with XsTatiC" so, I'll sum it all up with this,
Halloween is a great holiday, but remember that in the world in which our type

Are you tired of the same ol' radio in yer town? Live near a big city
and wish that you could recieve some of those stations that are just a tad too
far to pick up? Never fear, yer cable company is doing you a big favor that
many people don't know about. You see, most cable companies get thier feed
from the nearest "large city". When they import this service, alot of good
radio stations just can't resist the urge to be recived by that antenna and in
turn are carried by the cable with the television stations. Wondering how you
get these stations to yer radio? Well, hold yer pants!!! I'm gonna tell ya
how so that you don't have to call yer local cable nerd and have them charge
you their "service fee" to do it for ya! (I'm such a nice guy, huh?)
Here's what you need:
3 lengths of coax (cable you dork!)
1 cable splitter
1 75ê to 300ê matching transformer (should have come with TV/VCR)
1 cable outlet
1 cable service
1 radio with external antenna
1> Connect one end of first piece of coax to cable outlet
2> Connect other end to INPUT on splitter
3> Connect one end of second piece of coax to one of the OUTPUT on splitter
4> Connect other end to 75ê side of transformer
5> Connect 300ê side of transformer to ANT. LEAD on radio
6> Connect last piece of coax to remaining OUTPUT on splitter
7> Connect other end to yer TV or VCR like usual
8> Turn on radio to FM and turn that dial, being amazed at how many stations
you can get now!!!
BTW...Don't tell yer cable company about you doing this. As I stated before,
most will charge you for a service call, some charge for FM service and some
charge you monthly for an extra extention.

Well, I hope you enjoied this issue of tSL. I've recieved some new news
since I wrote the intro so here it is...
úù> Neko's board "Pay-No-Mind" has gone down for reasons beyond his
control. "Visual Distortion" will be picking up the slack as Central
HQ, and due to limited acs, I will not be giving out the number
through the mag until I get it ok'ed with Necromancer (SysOp). Thanks
for the help, Necromancer.
úù> Hacksaw has informed me that he will be getting his new computer
Thursday, and will be active in the next issue.
úù> Neko STILL has not submitted anything.
úù> The "Blow-Up Betty" deal for SysOps has been withdrawn due to a
recall in the vaccuum units included for the "Sucking action"
úù> By reqest, tSL might be going undergound in order to provide useful
and more lengthy issues in the future. All departments will still be
uncluded, but there will be more guest writters, and more content.

I just got off the phone with Neko....He has had a very bad misfourtune with a
hard drive crash and has lost everything. He will be setting it back up (new
and improved) this week! "Visual Distortion" will still be "tSL Central HQ"
and "Pay-No-Mind" will remain "tSL WHQ". I guess he has a valid reason to not
have an article for this issue. Maybe I'll have him write two for issue 4.
