This is for the people who want to know about relativity.... What
else? I always thought it was an interesting subject and no one would tell me
about it. The science teachers said your not old enough stop bothering me etc.
That pissed me off so I when and got a bunch of books on it and read them, I
didn't understand the math behind it and I wont even pretend to. Relativity
is not an incredible misery as some make it out to be and it makes a lot of
sense. All you need is a little imagination and it all comes clear.

RELATIVITY is a different way of looking at the world around you.
It starts with SPACE. Space the stage for every thing that happens in our
universe and if there are others them too. The first abstract Idea is that
space is Something. People argue "what do you mean there is nothing in space"
They are right there is nothing IN space but space it self is something. It
is like the chess board that all mater and energy uses to move about on.
Unlike any other surface It is frictionless, and infinet (as far as are minds
can comprehend) but despite this it can be bent by mater and possibly energy
(electromagnetic).

Space is flexible. This is demonstrated by gravity. The earth bends
space around it which in turn creates gravity. This you likely know but why
does it do this. In order to explain this to some one else to make them shut
up I used the rubber sheet explanation... "Space is like a rubber sheet.
Imagine a ball on the sheet it creates a bend in the material. If you rolled a
smaller ball by it would catch it and hold it in orbit." Well that is all nice
and dandy but it is not the real reason because I pointed out to the person
who first told me, gravity pulls the ball in to the "Gravity Well" and you are
trying to explain gravity. The rubber sheet explanation is not compleatly
useless though space is warped, or bent as you will like the rubber sheet.
Space acts as a lens to a light particle as it travels through space you could
imagine that space is like glass of different densities, as the particle nears
a large object (or any size object) it is bent by its gravity.

Time and space are linked. This is the part that tends to confuses
people. If the warping of space were the only factor in holding things in
orbit the moon would probably go flying off into space. Then what else holds
it in orbit? Time does. The warping of space also changes time or the rate at
which it appears to move to some one else in another place (confused yet?).
You could think of it this way large bodies warp space the closer to the
centre of the body the greater the gravity. If you are thinking of space like
glass the glass closer to the centre of the body is greater in density
than the glass away from it thus there is "drag" it is not a drag of friction
but one of time.

--- <--- the "-" represent space
-
o <--- large body

the picture is an great exaggeration but you should get the point. If a
particle (of light or mater) were to pass between the dashed lines above
time would move more slowly nearer the large body than away from it. That is
because the single "-" posses more space than the dashes above do
OK a little math to demonstrate, Gasp no not the math. Every one knows (or
should in grade 11 and over) D = V*T (distance = Velocity * Time) therefore
one side the particle will travel farther than the other and bend in to the
larger object because time is being changed. Now there are people that will
argue with this from there experience but we are talking about this effect
only being noticeable by fast moving particles but, this efect is having a
good pull on you and every thing else material because of all the little
particles that are flying around that make you like the electrons that are all
orbiting about there nucleolus are all trying to get to the centre of the
earth (along with there Protons and Neutrons and all those other particles the
list goes on and on).

E = MC^2 (Energy = Mass* the speed of light squared as just about
everyone already knows) but what does it ready mean? What was so great about
a little equation that some guy named Albert Einstein came up with any ways?
You will here plenty of people mention it when ever some one mentions
relativity and stand there looking smart (not that they likely know what they
are talking about). The revolutionary idea was Mass and energy are one in the
same, the C^2 part is simply a measuring unit and is not ready important.
Relativity is not some useless mathematics it has unleashed the greatest
powers and explains them perfectly (so far at least). The Nuclear generators
and Atomic clock are examples, as well as the awsom powers of Nuclear and
atomic weapons. Nuclear weapons operate by spiting the nucleus of an atom
resulting in two smaller elements which weigh less than the original. The
missing mass is transformed into energy. This is an important concept
because it defy's the chemical laws of mass conservation which states "During
a chemical reaction matter is neither created or destroyed." Some may point
out that I said a nuclear reaction will destroy matter not a chemical reaction
but they to loos and gain mater (very small amounts but every thing counts).

A trivia question... Which is heavier? An two atoms of hydrogen and
one atom of oxygen or one particle of water. They are both the same... Well
no they are not. When Hydrogen and Oxygen react with a spark they release a
large amount of energy and any energy that is released reduces the amount of
mater. If the reaction puts out more energy than it started with it is called
exothermic and the mass goes down. For every exothermic reaction there must
be its opposite a endothermic reaction. To split water into its elements an
electric current must be passed through it where the elements will regain what
they lost this is endothermic.

The constant of light. Here is another trivia question (good to use
on chemistry and physics teachers). There are two galaxies moving apart from
each other one is moving at 3/4 the speed of light the other is moving at
2/4 the speed of light? Generally a person would... (did you think about it
yet?) add the to fractions together 3/4 + 2/4 = 5/4 therefore the light would
not be able to catch up to the other galaxy. Well it can... Imagine if there
was a middle body like earth and we were watching this we would see both
galaxies moving away if we measured the light from both sources the light
would be moving at the same rate at THE SPEED OF LIGHT now imagine if the
light now shot by us is would go on its way and catch up with the other
galaxy. So both galaxy can see the other. That is because light never
changes speed. It is all ways moving at 299 792.458 km/s (186 282 miles/s).

Changes in time. If gravity bends space which effects time then light
must slow down? It does and it doesn't. To explain things in relativity we
must use extremes to show the point. The black hole is an example. A black
hole is created when the fusion reactions in the sun cease the explosions and
the star contracts because of gravity if the gravity is strong enough the
repulsive forces of the electrons are over come and the star becomes a
neutron star where the star is being supported only by neutrons which are
resting against each other. If the gravity was extreme the star would fall
into its self and stop as soon as it become a black hole. Why does if stop
there because time it self will stop. Things can not move with out time. The
fact is the time in a black hole likely goes on but 1 second in a black hole
would likely be 1000 years for us. The point where light and therefore nothing
else can escape and where time itself is considered to stop is called the
event horizon. Once this fine line is crossed there is no turning back. As a
person nears a black hole time slows. If you were out in deep space and fired
a laser at a black hole you would see in speed away from you then as it nears
the hole it will appear to slow down until it has almost stooped then it will
slowly enter the hole. Did the light ready slow down? If you were to be in
close orbit around the black hole (all most on the event horizon) you would
see the light come towards you it would be moving at the speed of light
because that is what your clock tells you. Light is all ways moving at
299 792.458 km/s in the pont of space it is moving through it just might not
appear that way. Why the slow down? It is because space in that aria is
compressed it is like some sort of board game where the squares to move your
player forward keep getting closer together the nearer you get to a gravity
well.

What about time travel? From what you know from what I said all ready
time slows down near a black hole or any large body. If you moved near a huge
body ie. a black hole. You could wait a year near it then leave (assuming you
had to huge power necessary to escape). After this time you could return to
earth to find it 1 000 000 years older (depending on how close you were of
course). The point is you could possibly make jumps into the future but there
is no way back.

Worm holes, gates, and alternate dimensions. These are interesting
ideas that are related. There is no proof of the existence of any of these
things yet the possibility is there. An alternate dimension or alternate space
as I shall call it could exist. Imagine space now are a 3D grid. Make it blue
and energy shoots along the grid lines. Now imagine a second 3D grid running
in between the first. Make this one red (just for the hell of it). You can do
this as many times pleases you. The interesting thing is there is no reason
the space can not be a different scale, so if you were to jump through from
our space to another space that was a larger scale then travel 100 miles and
then could come back (this might not be possible but I don't ready know) you
might be able to travel 1 000 000 miles. Then star travel may be possible.
But this is all very unlikely. Gates and worm holes are simply ways into
alternate spaces. This may not be possible but it is fun to think about.
Who know what relativity will bring in the years to come....

I hope you found this interesting.
sincerely ARSONic
