was a very sad day for me. I was really hoping that they would come back
around and give us the great music from their first three albums. Tarantula
is great, but Carnival of Light was too much, too soon. Anyway, RIDE will
always be in my top three.

the break up of RIDE is a very sad thing, and though I was once an avid Mark
fan, I think Andy has potential to go on solo. On Tarantula almost all of
the songs were his, and I really like his style. However, Tim and the
Charlatans have always been my obsession, I'm thankful they're still
together. People have got to get past this Some Friendly worship, It IS a
Great album, but what about Up To Our Hips? Or their latest?

I knew it from the day I heard Bluetonic first time. I did not listen to
one prominent english music magazine who labelled them 'mediocre britpop
band' in around the Sept. 95 issue and I did not take much notice of that
magazine saying that they should move out of their rehearsing location in
Hounslow near the Heathrow airport to actually hear what they sound like!!!
That is because I thought that they were the best thing to come out of
England since the Charlatans.
Slight return only reinforced that opinion. I haven't the album yet but
I'm buying it very soon!!!

drums and wall of sound guitars-trademarks of the Manchester wave 89-91.
But I never liked Inspiral Carpets. They depress me just the way Grunge,
Pearl Jam and RHChilli peperrs do!!! Strange?

I doubt it. JS is busy forming a new band and writing songs. He says
he already has a bass playing and is looking at drummer. There is an
interview with JS in the current NME which explains the split and his
future plans. It seems he's very relieved to leave the 'roses and
wants to make several albums with his new band (which he says he
won't front as he says it wouldn't be in his character to do so).

I just had to comment on all this Ride talk because they are probably my
favorite band, and I too was very saddened to hear of their break-up. I
wonder what direction Andy will go in now. I like the sitar and acoustic
sound of some of his recent songs. I hope he will explore this sound,
rather than the style of "Black Nite Crash." I've heard that Andy's been
playing some acoustic dates in the U.K. Has anyone on this list been able
to catch him live?

I like the lyrics on "Between 10th and 11th" more than on the other albums
because they are more political than Tim usually is-check The End Of Everything
and I Don't Want To See The Sights for example. I don't know if it's as good
musically as the others though. What do you reckon?
I'm forever indebted to Tim for writing (No one) Not Even The Rain and so
getting me to read e.e.cummings who I think is fantastic.

hello,
well just saw black grape in cinci this weekend. having not had the chance
to see the mondays during their hey-day i was still very much excited even
though bez and kermit were not present. kermit is sick with a hole in his
heart! and bez could not get a visa due to drug history or something?
anyways the show was fun, and i met the guitarist and bassist after the show.
really cool guys!! also got on video for there 3 hour documentary coming
later on. they camera guy i met was equally cool and we talked about a lot
of mondays history and seeing the band now, and so on. sorry this is not
really related to charlatans stuff but i had a great time and i wanted to share
my excitement. and for any stateside "footy's" shaun is a die hard man.
united supporter. cant say i like man. united, but they are definitely a
good team. anyone know who the charlatans support, cuz i am a man. city
fan and the stone roses are city fans as are oasis but what of the charlies?

from 'Split', a f*cking masterpiece and my fave album from '94. Lovelife
doesn't compare, though. It has some nice parts, vaugely reminiscent of
the Good Old Days, but overall it's merely a decent listen. I truly hate
the track with that bloke from Pulp, it's garbage. But songs like Single
Girl, The Childcatcher, Last Night, and even Ladykillers are quite
enjoyable, if somewhat different.
Still can't wait to see them, w/Scheer, and the magical 3. Only
one week from today... Ahhh...

Why does no-one like the Carpets any more. Even Rob Collins slags them off. Of
coarse the're nothing like the Charlatans but I still think the're a top notch
band. Will any-one else be brave enough to admit still liking them? How can you
all forget "This is how it feels" and "Sackville" so easilly?

I like their music. Especially the albums 'life' and 'Revenge Of The GoldFish'.
I didn't like their last album too much though except from three songs. But,
Rob Collins and other band members, they know the guys and say that they are
fake and stupid and so on. I've heard that from Noel Gallagher's mouth as
well, and those things I can believe. It seems like it is more than just the
Ispirals' music that is annoying them, and that's ok by me. I don't know them,
and/so I think their music is OK.
Anyway, I read in one of the 109 issues that Tim was happy that United won
over City, so I think that Tim is actually a Manc. United fan(, even though
they're not from Manchester at all and there are probably a footballteam in
Northwich, I know that. But Northwich is rather close to Manchester, and for
Tim to be a fan of United isn't a mystery to me :). This is what I think, but
I'm not hundred prosent sure. I'm not into Manchester United myself. I'm into
Viking Footballteam (in Norway, ha!).

I am a great fan of the Carpets and am brave enough to admit.
I have all 4 albums and G.H and love every minute of every one every

Tim and Mark both support Man Utd. as I know from personal experience!! I first
met the lads on a day when my team (Arsenal) were playing United and seeing my
scarf Mark started a fight about who would win!! I can't believe I argued with
my heroes!!
I know one band member supports Wolves but can't remember if it's Jon or Martin-
I think it's Jon.

I think "Between 10th and 11th" is definitely as good musically as all
the other Charlatans releases, but is different. When I saw them in
concert after the release of "Up to Our Hips", Tim was introducing a song
from "Between..." and said that it was their most psychedelic album. I
would agree with that. I think on that album they explored a lot of
sounds and combinations, making it a lot more subtle.

Subject: 'Carpets, Oasis and Shed 7.
I read somewhere that just as Inspiral Carpets always played second
fiddle to bands like Stone Roses, Happy Mondays and Charlatnas in late
80's/early 90's, today it is Shed Seven who are supposed to be in the
shade of Oasis. Well judging on the merits of their follow-up albums I
am sad to say to say that Maximum High is a better album than I am so
drugged-f***ed this morning story album. I mean songs like Don't
look back in anger and Wonderwall are bloody played on the easy listening
stations here, you know those ones that pride themselves to sponsor the
concerts of likes of Wet Wet Wet and Mariah Carey.
What happened to Supersonic and Ciggaretes and Alcohol types of songs
that raised Oasis to the legends status?????????????????

I Love the Carpets Also! They were one of the few bands I bought that
changed my life, along with Stone Roses, Happy Mondays, Saint Etienne,
and The Dark Side. The Carpets Dirty ranking organs were what got me
at first, the Album The beast inside was the flowing one.
The Charlatans Still rule....but ditch the close-to-country guitars!
The First Album is still the most Phat Album and Classic !!

anyways the show was fun, and i met the guitarist and bassist
after the show. really cool guys!! also got on video for there
3 hour documentary coming later on. they camera guy i met was
equally cool and we talked about a lot of mondays history and
seeing the band now, and so on. sorry this is not really related
to charlatans stuff but i had a great time and i wanted to share
my excitement. and for any stateside "footy's" shaun is a die hard
man. united supporter. cant say i like man. united, but they are
definitely a good team. anyone know who the charlatans support, cuz
i am a man. city fan and the stone roses are city fans as are oasis
but what of the charlies?

I love Flowered Up! I concider their album 'Life With Brian' as one of the best albums
comming out from that scene (along with the The Stone Roses and Charlatans etc). I also think
that Weekender is one hell of a song. One of the best songs ever made. The british music
magazine Select, visited Tim Burgess at his home in one of the issues last year. When I looked
at the pictures from his livingroom, I could actually see a little poster on the wall with
Weekender by Flowered Up .
By the way. I think no artists are as honest when it comes to liking music as Tim Burgess. Other
artists are often slagging other bands off (because of the competition they feel, I guess). I've
never heard Tim giving any bad compliments except from to Phil Collins. Bands are often so
frightened to admit what they like, and they always have to come up with ONLY old bands, like they
are not influenced by anything else. Of course old bands are an importent influence, but I am
convinced that what's happening in the music today is also a very big influence to almost every
band.

He hadn't killed himself yet, he'd just overdosed on sleeping pills and
champagne. It wasn't 'till the monday after he pulled the trigger.
Do you remember that night Tim stage dived and got beat up by the bouncers
when he tried to get back on stage, claiming he was one of the band. It
was durring Sproston Green, I'll never forget how good that sounded.

studios in Poplar East London, it's about a 20 minute walk from my house
and they have been there all week according to my mate, so I'm going to cut
down there tonight and try and blag my way in and have a chat. They were
also using Primal Scream's studio in Islington a few weeks back.

I went and bought It's On from a second hand shop today on CD, got it
home and it's all scratched up. Can still listen to most of it thank god.
It still sounds fucking hilarious, kind of like a cross between Happy
Mondays and Blinder off Radio Tip Top. I ain't got a clue about the rest
of the band but I know Liam still works on his stall in Camden Market.

end of May, in Toronto, possibly at the opera house. Tix go on sale Friday
April 26th. I just found out about it so that's the reason for short
