I didn't realise that there were so many gradeschoolers that liked the
Roses and the Charlatans....you'll 'ave to settle your differences like
nice little boys and girls or there'll be no recess...

Any angry mailers on this list should put their thumbs in their mouths
and go sit in the corner for a while 'till this all gets a wittle

I remember a couple years ago I had tickets to go see the Charlies, but they
cancelled their tour about half way through it. I think it was the between
10th & 11th tour. I asked the ticket guy if he knew the reason it was
cancelled, and he told me Tim's girlfriend had a baby. Does anyone know if
this is true?

Cheers!

i saw the charlies that summer ('92?) at the HFStival in DC. they flew in the
same day and the flaky dj guy at the mic said they (the charlatans) were late
cause tim's girlfriend had just had a kid. of course there's room for alot of
error here. i'm not sure if the kid was tim's or not. my guess is no.

Well -

It seems as if we have a few folks who don't understand the rules and
politesse of a mailing list. Accordingly, they have made the majority of
the people read their little one sentence replies and totally unresponsive
statements or even worse, uncontexted (new word!) statements.

People, this is the fucking internet, OK? No one polices us but ourselves.
If you wanna pull all this personal ranting and raving or hidden innuendo
shit, go pull it elsewhere, and quit bothering all of us who want to hear
people's opinions. If you rant and rave, that;s fine to do on a list, but
these little pain in the ass personal messages and one word or one sentence
responses are not the thing to do on this list, OK? Do we have to spell it
out ANY clearer?

Please. people, let's get on with the Charlies or whoever.

Peace, Chris

Just a request for those who might not have been on a mailing list before:
Please keep any mail that you send to the entire list (address:
charlatans@stud2.misjonshs.no) with questions or dialouge for the entire
list. If you are trading tapes with someone, or engaging in a private
conversation, or even god forbid writing a two-word message please only
address it to the specific people involved. I am getting between 10-20
messages a day (and a lot of other people are too) that should be addressed
to only one person. It's just kind of frustrating when I want to see if
there is anything interesting being said and I have to search through 10
meaningless messages to find it. Again, I don't mean to sound superior.
I've done the above before too, and if anyone has any questions about how to
send mail to the specific person who sent it to the list feel free to email
me.

Thanks,
Munj@aol.com

P.S. I asked this before, but has anyone ever actually seen the Charlatans
play "Stir It Up", a song which it seems that a great many of us like (myself
included)? It's kind of a waste to write excellent songs and then never give
anyone a chance to see them performed. Also, does anyone have any
interesting Charlatans posters? It's kind of hard to find many decent ones
stateside if you don't live near a big city or have a really cool record shop
in your hometown. I have one that is with Tim painted in the American flag
(from a Jesus Hairdo video?), with the rest of the band wearing shades, that
I've only seen once.

Gee, maybe if people are sending negative replies, it's because they
don't want to be on the list and are sick of getting messages. Perhaps,
if you could tell us how to "terminate" our subscriptions instead of
ignoring repeated messages about this, you wouldn't have so many pissed
off people.

I haven't received a thing since Monday.

Andy, one great thing about the Charlatans is that they put out not only
great albums, but also great singles with cool remixes and awesome extra
tracks...Both Over rising and Me in time are great, and so are the rest...I
highly reccomend the singles from the Up to our hips sessions (Jesus hairdo,
Easy life, and Can't get out of bed) there are some tops songs on them (Stir
it Up is one of Charlatan's greatest works...so is Subterranean...)

Get their singles, they are worth it...If you can't find Indian Rope, I'd
make you tape copy of it...let me know...

Good luck!

find it and when I did I found it in 12" form and CD single (I got 'em both)
Just try new record stores that sell used CD's or real dodgy looking record

Right now, the Auteurs are second only to charlatans in my mind.
They are, without a doubt, a thinking musician's band, and I strongly
recomend checking them out.

> Beatles

I guess this goes without saying, doesn't it?

> Bluetones

If you like early Stone Roses stuff, you'll enjoy the Bluetones.

> Blur
> Boo Radleys

A couple of old standby's. Alot of people are jumping off of the Blur
bandwagon, but both of these bands provide great pop music.

> Cast

My favourite new band of last year. Their album "All Change" is okay,
but didn't live up to my expectations.

> Chapterhouse

Are they still around?

> Charlatans

Who? ;-) Oh yeah...the best band in the world!

> Dylans

Another "what ever happened to?" band. I would appreciate any
information on what has happened to this band. The last single that I
noticed was "I'll Be Back to Haunt You".

> Oasis

Alot of people seem to dislike this band. They are one of my favourites
but, in all honestly, I think "Just Lookin" out-Oasised Oasis!

> Pulp
> Ride

Two more great bands.

> Sly and the Family Stone

Glad to see they made the list...

No surprise here. Both bands are releasing new albums in 96.

> Supergrass

A great new band. I strongly recomend buying their new single,
"Going Out".

Now I need a question answered... okay.. I saw the track listing for

know if it still has the vocal track and is a decent rendition of the
song as that would be one of the main reasons for getting it.

btw... are there any other british ppl on this list.. I'd like to be in
contact with ppl who can tell me whats happening back there (musically or
otherwise.) hope this is not too wierd a request... Have fun,

phil-
i would reccommend getting the life is sweet 2cd set. it has some
EXCELLENT mixes of life is sweet plus a bside plus a mix of chicos groove
from their lp. it is available in the us as a 2cd set or as an import 1cd
with all of the tracks on 1 cd. either way its about the same price. i
would be leery of the mix on trance... having the vocal mix as all of the
mixes on the single do not have the vocals, but that doesnt mean they
arent good! I am fast becoming a big fan of the chemical brothers. Go out
and buy their new ep, loops of fury, its great as well.

cheers

The band that you`re thinkin' of is called Laxtons Superb, they`ve just had
a single out over here but I can`t remember what it`s called.

The other mixes of life is sweet don't have any vocals on but never
the less they are very good indeed. As for a decent rendition ...
well as with a lot of re-mixes the re-mix doen't sound much like
original. A good purchase wood be to buy the Life Is Sweet cd set
which has some very good tracks, especially cd2. The Loops of Fury EP
is also top quality including a good remix of Chemical Beat by Dave
Clarke.

Speaking of which ... is Archive 1 by Dave Clarke any good? I've
heard a coulple of tracks which have been OK. They've tended to start
with a good idea, play around with it a bit, but never really
develope it or bring in any other ideas.

btw ... I'm a British person and there seems to be nothing going on
at the moment but there is a slot on an British radio show called
What the Story? which answers peoples questions like what are such
and such a band doing at the moment so I'll submit a question to them
and hopefully let you know of the responce.

Phil,

If Trance Europe Express is much like it's counterpart Volume, than
all the tracks on it are unreleased cuts you won't find anywhere else. Pick
it up!

BLOW-UP
Toronto, Canada

as some of you may have found out last night, next week (Mar. 30) is the
BLOW-UP SUPER SPECTACULAR 11th PARTY!

it'll feature 4 bands including SPEED ORCHID, KNOCKOUT PILL, THE TOPPERMOST
and ADMIRAL. each band will play for about 20 minutes and, I quote, "keeping
with the blow-up theme each band has agreed to our wacky idea of throwing in
a few '60s covers just for fun."

the liverockunroll starts at 10 pm ("sharp!") and the DJ Davy starts
spinning @ 11:30...

beyond that, this coming friday (29th) at A DIFFERENT CLASS I'll be giving up
the hot seat (11 pm to whenever) to Mike McCann who - as some of you may know-
has done his fair share of spinning around and about thee golden horseshoe.

help us alert the masses!
cheers,
Tim (republic@interlog.com)

Hello everyone!

I was wondering if people from this list would be interested in a live chat
somewhere on the net...We can discuss Charlatans related topics, exchange
opinions and ideas, etc. real time...I have a site to suggest if people
would be interested in something like a meeting. The chatsite is called From
the Hip, and its address is: http://www.rockweb.com/x/rwi-chat

We could arrange a convinient for most meeting time and try it...If
interested, please reply...
