Subject: RE: Rush

Rush is a perfect example of a band built completely around drums. Even
John Brookes himself sai "You can't build a band purely on rhythm." I've
heard a lot of Rush at work and the drums are just too much. When I hear
some the stuff Reni can do on a three piece it blows my mind. Brookes also
has a similar style. The both of them belong alongside the greats like
Kieth Moon and Bonzo. You can tell how good Reni is by listening to the
Roses with Robbie Maddox. Give Niel Peart a three piece, and we'll see what
happens.

Yes, Mark Phillipousos...that's his name! So, I guess I'm not just imagining
it. What a cutie!! He's actually better-looking than Tim Burgess because
he's got that athletic look. Yummy!

We can all hope...

But..

Oasis have not broken up, what I think you are refering to is Liam missing
the date at Chicago due to :

either- laringitis
or - looking for a new house

Liam flew into the US yesterday to rejoin the group.
His Girlfriend, Patsy Kensit, issued a statement that she had not prevented
Liam going on tour. However there are rumours that Liam is getting
phsychiatric help when he comes back from tour!!!

Hello everyone,

The tape of the charlies live at Chelmsford 17/8/96 is now available,
including one new song "North Country Boy" and all your other favourites
(no "Then" for some reason) So if anyone wants a copy, write soon.

Nobody's asked for copies, but please note that the tapes of Brixton in
1992 and Sheperd's Bush in 1994 are currently unavailable.

Tape of the Boston Arms gig in 1990 coming soon!

All of this talk of a break up is probably just one more publicity stunt the

their videos, so I can't like them anymore anyway.

Inbetween Oasis' fooling around in the US, and Suede's trashin' in the UK,
there are still a few things happening around The Charlatans. They have done a
couple of new interviews after Rob's death. In this month's The Face, Tim
Burgess is on the front cover, and there is a 5-6 page interview with new
picture. The Charlatans are also on the front cover of the latest Melody
Maker, and in both interview you can read how these last weeks have been.
Excellent interviews. And not to miss, the latest issue of 109 which I sendt a
mail about a week ago. I haven't got it yet, but I'm looking forward to it.
And at last, The Charlatans' "One To Another" went straight to number 3 on
the UK single charts this week. They were only topped by Spice Girls'
"Wannabe" (tell me what you want what you really really want) on 1st place,
and Kula Shaker's "Hey Dude"!. A number three single is the best they've ever
done, The Only One I Know was the best before with chart number 9, and The
Charlatans' last single "Just When You're Thinking Things Over" was at number
11 on the same week as Blur's Country House and Oasis' Roll With It.

GOODIE BAG!

Smashing pumpkins claiming to want to try industrial and trance that was
more than intreging ....the rest can suck and blow alternatively.

Oh yeah that singer from Sueade he sounds like Geddy. They both need help...

Time for livin by the B boys was on check your head.... and a mutual project
between them and the charletans or a Chem bros vs the dust bros would be
nice. the origanal dust bros were with B boys, the chem bros accidentally
took their name. The B boys having had legal problems in the past didn't
rasie a fuss they offered the Chem bros a compromise. We'll give you the
rights to sample all our material if you change your name. The rest is
proved by the masterpiece "Exit Plant" which has a myriad of samplings, my
favorite is the beginning of the second song....."who is it? B Boys!"

That is not all true as far as I know. The Beastie boys album Pauls
Boutique was produced by the Dust Brothers. Lets call them the Dust Bros
U.S. for know. Then this these two guys (tom and ed) who had also been
calling themselves by the same name found out they couldnt use the Dust Bros
name due to copyright crap. So opting against The dust Bros U.K. went with
the chemical brothers. Though some of the chemical bros stuff was released
as the dust bros. it was short lived. As far as the Dust bros. actually
being the Beastie boys?? nope, the dust bros (yep, U.S. guys) had just
produced the new Beck album and have their own release coming out soon. I
hope its entitled exit planet chemical.

I saw the Charlatans this year when they played support to Oasis at Knebworth
Park on Sunday 11th August, which was of course their first gig since the
death of Rob. You might have heard a lot of people saying this, but they were
fantastic! Easily the best support band. It shows how something good can come
from everything, even a tragedy, they were obviously determined to go out
there and make themselves noticed - something which the Manic Street
Preachers failed to do.
Good luck to them! If they can keep this up then they might be able to live
up to Tim's claim that they'll be 'the biggest band in the world'!

That's cold man. It probably was from last years' tour. In fact I was at
that show last year. I couldn't believe the Charlatans played such a small
club. When I saw them in '91 they headlined at the Warfield, and Juliana
Hatfield's old band opened for them. I was sad that they played such a small
place, but then again it was so cool to see 'em all up close. It's been a
nice time reminiscing sorry.

Cold? I just thought it might cast some light on the dilemma.

We should all be seeing then touring soon anyway, so maybe the date is
correct. I've seen them 5 times (4 times in Toronto and once they came to
my home town in Hamilton for a special one-off gig) and would love to see
them play every night. Their last concert here was absolutely amazing.
The best I've ever seen the band play (including their amazing first tour
with oil projections and slide show).

I'm really getting pumped to hear the new album.
Any new concert/release dates would be appreciated.

Hi everyone.

It's great to see so many active Charlatans fans out there. They are
truely a brilliant band!! (as if that needs to be said here:)

So does anybody know any U.S. release dates for the new album?

Also, I was wondering what happened to Ride? I know this is not
necessarily a Charlatans topic, but I was sure someone out there could
let me know. It would be greatly appreciated, they are my second or
third favorite.

- Thank you, Josef.

Out here is Australia, they have just released the charlatans new single.
If anyone's interested, in Perth I got mine through 78 Records (they also

The single One to Another is fantastic. I was wondering though are the two
B-sides off cuts from their last LP, 'cause they sure sound like it.

Cant wait for the next LP.

Hello. I was at that Bluetones show last night as well. I got there
around 11:00 and it was sold out. But, some man showed up and sold me a
ticket so i was able to get in and see the show. I thought that they
put on a good show, although it was a little short. But, for $7.00 what
else can you expect! :). For those interested they opened with
Bluetonic and closed with Things Change. The last time I saw them was at
T in the Park this past summer in Scotland. It was definitely a different
experience seeing them in a huge tent and then seeing them in a 400 person
bar! All in all, the show was a great time. I hope to see all of you SF
fans at the Manic Street Preachers show at the Bottom of the Hill later
in the month!

actually, i was very shocked to hear of it this morning on the radio and

that they were the most successful brit band to hit the states (only ones

My question still hasn't been answered. If it is an insult to the

why did the charlatans open for Oasis.

I agree, though, Oasis should be mourned on the Oasis list, not here.

blur articles at this point are pretty much inevitable. i happen to
appreciate them very much...but i don't actually read them...anyway, i
guess the least you can do is skip 'em, huh.

well, manic street preachers opened for oasis recently and i'd like to
know if anyone knows how that turned out. btw, charlatans would blow the
doors off any band...

that's a pretty blunt statement and this is coming from a non-oasis fan.
obvious their music was good for them to have gotten this far. if anything
sucked, it definitely would have been their attitudes.

i agree who cares about oasis....they steal music from the beatles their
stage pressence from the stone roses....the album they last released had
a few bright spots but doesn't compare to the charlatans 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or
4th albums....and will never live up to the raw magnificents of the roses
first album no matter how big they get

does any one else hope that the charlatans will be the stone to the oasis
beatles...they sound nothing alike but the music press always assigns the
two old groups to two current groups......blur oasis.....stone roses happy
mondays for instance

Oasis viewpoint good, hockey viewpoint bad. Oh well, take it in good spirits
tomorrow night when Canada once again regains the Canada Cup title (this was
the name of the tournament before the AMericans decided that they should run
it. What was Oasis' name before the Americans started to run them?).

ANd I thought that the Beatles were the biggest Brit band to play the US.
Thought they played arenas too. ;)

Why indeed. Perhaps the opportunity to play to around 250000 people was too
tempting. The more people they can introduce to their music the better. I
would hate to ever see the Charlatans dwindle into obscurity because the fan
base dries up. Though they are in totally different leagues I remeber this
kind of thing hitting That Petrol Emotion and even the Inspirals. I have no
doubt that Tim and the bands performance swayed a number of those quarter of
a million Dire Straits fans.

ps-someone wrote that they are not splitting up, they are just no longer
touring. I assume this is their Beatles obsession surfacing once more albeit
at a faster pace. If Patsy is Yoko, does this mean Liam will be shot by a
manic fan.

That's a really good point! I really liked Oasis pretty much up to
the point where Wonderwall Was played every five minutes! Then to
find out they were just a buch of snotty, ignorant brats. It really
made their music less important and dissapointing.

Too bad, so sad. They probably really COULD HAVE been good.

It just makes the Charlatans shine enev more brightly than ever.

I happen to be listening to the Bluetones LP right now and have been for the
last several days. I am hooked big time! Sounds like early Stone Roses with
a countryish twinge at times, but the guitars are something else. If they
can come close live, it would be much more interesting than a lot of bands
out there. I'll be lookin for them here.

As for Oasis, well, it has been that kind of year hasn't it? Maybe the
sudden stardom freaked them out totally. Once Patsy Kensit walks on Liam, he
will come back to what little sense he has and realize the folly. Glad I got
to see them up close and personal twice before the champagne novaed in their
heads.

On my way out to buy the Charlatans single. Thanks for the news.

Funny-
I, too, made the "Oasis gives up touring" connection to the Beatles.
Is Noel stalking the Fab Four (or three, no disrespect intended, John)?
Give it up, fellas....(and I even like Oasis!)

well, i thought that oasis' attitudes were good to laugh at. they
complained about other bands not enjoying the spotlight and looking
gloomy, and i'm sure they were the happiest looking sods around. hmm..
