As we all know the first sixteen blocks of a PSX disc are the "boot" blocks. They contain some territory information, but I don't know if this is the actual data that is used by the "territory lockout" code. NOTE 6: The LEADOUT track is written by the recorder automatically (except for the Philips) and is not under user control. It is not possible to read this area of the disc with a normal CDROM reader or recorder.

But after taking a better look at most of my ORIGINAL DISCS (yes some people do have originals :) and studying the movement of the lens i came to the conclusion that the playstation protection is OPTICAL!..

Let me explain my theory to you..

  1. Take a BLACK DISC and hold it up against the light, if you look from the middle there is just before the actual cd starts a BLUE TRANSPARENT ring!

  2. Take a other black disc (common everybody buys the official psx mag, so you should have atleast 5 black discs!) and look again, yes also a transparent BLUE ring..

  3. No take a GOLD or a SILVER DISC, and look no BLUE TRANSPARENT ring..

so i guess this have to one of the protections, cause when the playstation reads the TOC the head also moves to the middle of the CD. believe me i took apart my playstation to watch the head movement! I suggest that you try it out yourselve if you don't believe me.. Just try to make a PERFECT copy and take some blue transparent paint of the same color and reflection of the SONY one!
and try it out...

Again i am not sure this is the only protection, but i think it is ONE of the protections as sony didn't went over one night with the design of the protection

Okay that's it for now, i will keep you posted i know more about the protection

Cu, Jayce/AsgaRd

PS you can reach me on the ROOFS of RUINS, just look op the numbers somewhere..
