This textfile explains how to add a switch to your Playstation.
This will allow you to easily play japannese games (NTSC) on a PAL
PSX without the need of sticking something into your Playstation.
The original TXT file about adding a switch to your playstation was
written by : 2TUFF. I changed a couple of things that could be done
easier and added some more info for the people that do not have much
technical knowlage. Credits to 2TUFF for the information!.
Requierments:
-------------
- Microswitch 6 pins (tuimelschakelaar)
- 2 pieces of wire 6-7 inches long.
- Soldering iron
- tin
Instructions
------------
1) WIRE :
Get the 2 pieces of wire and cut them to around 6-7 inches long.
Strip and tin both ends of the 2 wires. Snip the tinned ends so
they ain't too long.
2) SWITCH :
o 1o 2o - Solder one of the wires to the TOP MIDDLE pin of
------- the switch (1).
o o o - Solder the other to the TOP RIGHT pin of switch (2).
3) PLAYSTATION :
- Open your Sony Playstation by removing the 5 black screws underneath.
- Remove all gold screws from the shielding etc (a fair few).
- Disconnect the Power section from the mainboard and take out the
mainboard with the shielding not removed.
- Place the mainboard upside down in front of you.
- Locate the place were the black micro switch is soldered onto the
mainboard (you can see at the circle in the shield were it's located!).
- It has 4 legs altogether, 2 on the left and 2 on the right underneath
each other. The pins are connected as following:
O--O - The above left and right pins are connected
O--O - The below left and right pins are connected
- Solder one wire of the switch to the above leg on the right.
(Do this very quickly, but make sure its a nice bond. DO NOT
leave the iron on the legs for more than 2 secs)
- Solder the other wire of the switch to the below leg on the right.
4) SWITCH
- Make a hole in the top case just above the I/O feature connector
(where the plactic flap is located). Make the hole big enough to
fit the switch. Watch out that you do not use to much force on the
plastic case when drilling a hole in it. It might break because
it is not meant to dril a hole in it :)
- Put the mainboard back in its case and put the switch into the hole
and secure it (Do not forget to connect the power to the mainboard).
- Screw everything back together and before you put the top case back on,
test it first. Put the power on and flip the switch. If the laser moves
on one position of the switch, then it works!. That position is the
"on" position (disc will start spinning). The other position is the
"off" position (normal operation).
- If it works put the top case back on and screw the 5 black screws back
in.
Why add a switch? :
- If the switch is in the "off" position your Playstation is as normal.
- If the switch is in the "on" position your Playstation will start
spinning just like when jamming something between the lid switch.
- You can close the lid and set the switch to the "off" position and your
playstation is working just like sony wants it to do :).
- You have no hassle with jamming an object between the lid switch.
- There is no possibility of something coming off the lid switch and
falling inside you Playstation.
