Playstation: Tutorial for the MultiGamesCompiler
1st Lesson "Some important thingz"
Ok! First important thing you have to know is that you only can use games, which get started with an *.EXE file.
So look for an EXE file on your CDs. If there is no EXE file you are not able to use this game with the compiler.
The second VERY important thing is that you must copy the cds exactly like they are on the original CD.That means DON'T MAKE A DIRECTORY for EACH game. If you do, they won't work. So here's an example
If there is a DATA and VIDEO directory they must be exactly on your CD. So don't archive them in an extra directory but only in the "ROOT DIRECTORY"
It's getting a little bit harder now:
2nd Lesson "How do I rip the games???"
So if you have to rip the games, so that they fit onto your CD you have to RIP MUSIC and/or VIDEOS
1) RIP Audio Data
This is very simple you just have to delete the Audio Tracks (*.cda) and the PSX Audio Tracks like Track01.xa.
Old games usualy don't cause any problems when the Audio is missing! With new games there could be some trouble so that the game runs slow or you get an error msg. like in Thrill Kill. These games are not posssible to rip then. :(
2) Rip VIDEO DATA
To rip VIDEO DATA should be no problem for people who ripped PC-VIDEOS before. It is really simple It's only possible to rip FMV (*.str) Videos, of course not cutscenes in "game grafic". You just need a tool to convert *.avi to *.str files. this tool is ofcourse availabe at www.gamefreax.de :-)
Just take any old PC-RIP and search for a avi file which is 0 secs long and which only shows a black screen. Take this file and convert it to a str file. Then take this file and copy it to your "Collection CD" and give the file the same name as the file you wanna rip. Overwrite all the VIDEOS you wanna rip! This should bring you again some 100megs! :)
3rd Lesson "What do i do with the DATA.TXT ?"
If you have all games that you want to compile on your harddrive just open the DATA.TXT.
Now it's getting harder again:
1) Important things for the file
This file and the PSX.EXE must always be in the "ROOT DIRECTORY".
The file always must beginn with START and end with "END".
There mustn't be any free lines between the main lines.
THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT ---> ALL THE DIRECTONS for the exe files must be in BIG LETTERS and behind the *.exe must always be ;1".
So here is the DATA.TXT of one of my last collections
START
"RASCAL"cdrom:\R\RASCAL.EXE;1"
"TEKKEN 3 JAPAN"cdrom:\1\TEKKEN3.EXE;1"
"DRIVER"cdrom:\DRIVER\DRIVER.EXE;1"
"END"
Thats how it has to look like. Just take my DATA.TXT and edit it matching your needs! :-)
4th Lesson "How da hell do i get the fuck on CD?"
Important
- There can only be one PSX.EXE on the CD. If you don't have just one then it cannot not work! :=)
- Maximal size for the CD is 640megs and 30 main directorys. But that should not be a problem.
Burning the CD
That you have to burn the CD is mostly clear i think! ;-)
The best programm (i take it too) to make collections is adaptec easy CD creator.
Just select all the directorys and files you want to burn and make an Image ISO file of em!
After you have done that, you are mostly done with the CD.
Take a programm to license ISOs. I take GridFIX (you can get it at gamefreax.de) After that burn the image back on CD.
If you've done everything corectly it should start in you PSX!
5th Lesson "Which games work - which don't ?ø?"
Of course you have to find out your self! But usually every old game with EXE files should work.
Here are some hints which games REALLY work:
Driver Beta
Biohazard 2 Beta (Leon)
Rascal
Need for Speed 3
C 3 Racing
Army Men 3d
Cool Boarders 2 (NTSC)
Tunnel B1
Crash Bandicoot 1,2,3 (3 did not work)
Tomba 1
Tomba 2 (JAP)
Tekken 1,2,3
Mortal Kombat 2,3,4,Sub Seven
Mortal Kombat Trilogy
Test Drive Offroad 1,2
Pandemonium 1
WWF ATTITUDE
Wu-TANG BETA
Those games all worked fine for me.
6th Lesson "Tips&Tricks"
- Don't try to edit the EXE so that there is your name and not LOOSERS name! That does not work and it is lame! If you don't like Loosers name--> CODE YA SELF! :)
- Better don't put more than 5-6 games on the cd.
- Try to get BETA Versions they are small and work fine. :)
- Before you waste as many CD-Rs as I did, buy CD-RWs so you can delete em again if CD does not work!
- Don't loose hope! :-)
- Look at other Collections like Golden Leon or Ultra Collection! You can learn very much from them.
