Release after release i ask myself: 'how sick are we all to read this?'.
Yesterday i saw the answer on my TV-Screen ... it was some weird commercial
late at night for some real fancy leather-wear ;) ... Well...after all it
stated: Sadism ain't no illness! I just couldn't stop laughing about this girl
with her whip running after the poor, crawling, chained guy. And this stupid
advertisement made me draw some conclusions: One could really compare WaVe MaG
to some Leather Tanga! See: if the thing fits you you'll have a lot of fun with
it, if it even suits you you'll have a shit-load of fun with it! Same for this
MaGazine! WaVe shows you around the pirate-scene life, but for sure we go beyond
that! We always (most times) try to make fun of everything we report about, but
this does for sure not mean, that our news/reports lack info or knowledge! Of
course there are always multiple approaches to a story, and we cannot cover
them all, but we're doing our best to give you the funny one!
So.. you are not sick, but for sure weird enough to read WaVe MaGazine, and if
our kind of bringing news to the public fits you you're going to HAVE FUN!
Another plus of WaVe is the mighty input from female side! As this is quite
unusual for the (pirate-)computer scene we are fuckin' (fits, eh?) proud of it!
So, all i can do about this is to thank our cheeky, but always charming
producers and hope that our m/f ratio will go up even more!

Hello there.
Note: Although this article is rather long, it's well worth your time. If you
have ever heard of RCN, Rio&Ken, Rebel Chicken or O. Schindler (Yours truly),
this could be of great importance to you.
In the past, while I was quite fond of RCN, I've heard a bunch of people
saying 'RCN sucks!'. Usually, I ignore such unbased statements which have no
proof along with them, and so I did. Then they started saying 'RCN sucks! They
lie all the time'. That was a different case. I decided to look into it. I went
through most of RCN issues, back issues and current issues, and as more issues
were published, RCN was becoming more, how shall I put it, immature,
irrational, and the good'old - lame.
Right about then my friend, Rio&Ken told me he's going to send RCN a letter,
saying exactly what he thinks of them and showing them where things went wrong.
I waited for the result. All RCN did was avoid him, re-edit some of his
message, twisted what he said against him and make a fool of him, showing no
intention to apologize or withdraw what they've said.
It was time to speak up. I worked a long time on a letter, explaining RCN
what's wrong with them, step by step, showing them how immature they were
concerning Rio&Ken's letter, providing them with a tool, some kind of
measurement which can be used to improve RCN (and I do believe they finally
used it).
So.. The next issue comes out (I think it was 22), and no letter, not even
a trace of a letter or a trace of my handle. Instead, there was an apology,
a great apology, apologizing for things _I_ told them were wrong.. and still,
no OS or O. Schindler mentioned in the text even once. I was not getting the
credit I deserve, not to mention, the right to have my letter published!
Since when did magazines start being selective about which letters they
publish and which they don't ? You see, RCN publishes letters that say 'great
programming' or 'keep up the good job', but complaints ? noooo..
I relaxed, thought to myself 'maybe they didn't get it or something'. I
checked. they got it alright. Back then I lost my Internet access (infact, I
got it back just that day the log file is from), so I asked Rio&Ken to talk to
Hitex for me, to tell him I think the apology is well put and well timed, and
that I don't think any less of RCN because of it, and I think it can only do
good for RCN. They were admitting they're wrong, a thing they were not willing
to do previously, which is a good start. I also asked him to ask Hitex why the
hell my letter wan't published, and ask that it will be published, with the
proper introduction, in the next RCN issue.
The next day he told me Hitex said something like 'thanks','no', and that he
would not agree to publish it. Not in the next RCN issue, not ever.
Ofcourse, I got mad. What do these guys think ? they can play with people
like this ?!? I think that, as usual, they won't confront what they can't
handle, and that's why they did not publish my letter, but even so - I was
entitled to a have my letter published, or at least to get a decent answer.
I had no way of contacting Hitex. When I went to Ken's house, to Inet and talk
to Hitex in #RCN, he (Hitex) wasn't there. I tried sending Email through
people. Still, no response. I asked Rio&Ken to DCC the letter over to as many
people as he can, and he did. but obviously, not enough of them. I let things
cool down, and the time has passed.
And now, for the first time, so over-due, directly from my saved messages
directory, here is the message, here is what I wrote to RCN, courtesy of WAVE:

Dear(?) RCN,
I am O. Schindler, a close friend of Rio&ken.
I've written to you before, so no introduction is needed.
I wish to protest against your reply to Rio&ken's letter on RCN #20.
I respect, or at least used to respect RCN for it's superb coding, it's wide
coverage of scene events and it's interesting and humorous articles, but now
I am very disappointed of you. I'd expect a better, more mature response from
you guys, but you failed to provide me with one.
Although I do not completely agree with Rio&ken, he does have some strong
arguments in his letter, ones which you have ignored, perhaps to avoid
possible embarrassment.
I've seen the original letter of Rio&ken and I must say I have no idea why
large parts of it were missing from the one you've published (if you look at
the section of the replies to things Ken said, you can see he said things which
are missing from the letter, such as that long line between the brackets).
I take it you are gifted with some supernatural power, since removing certain
sections of what one has to say and keeping others, would be knowing exactly
which of them he deems more important than others.
You are simply abusing your power as editors.
I, for once, have never seen an editor who edits a letter written to him by
a reader.
Furthermore, you haven't merely answered him. Instead of just resolving and
replying to what he said, you've twisted things he said against him and
deliberately altered the meaning of what he said to make him look like a fool.
Once I've compared you to a real newspaper, but now you've shown me, as you so
beautifully put it, you're nothing but 'a few teenagers' and so are your
actions.
Now I would like to tell you what I think of what you've said;
"We don't do it for the publicity. We are smart people and if we wanted
publicity you would have heard of us in other places by now."
Oh? then you wouldn't mind to do it anonymously ?
Don't insult our intelligence. publicity plays a major role here. it is so very
obvious I wouldn't bother to continue.
"10 minutes before release time. Well more like about an hour but whatever.
Yeah, goes to show you how we try to make our NFOs as recent as possible.
Such good Samaritans we are."
Well well.. good samaritans indeed.. Hey, here's an idea, why not do it one
minute before releasing ? that would be really recent.. comeon.. get real.
How can you expect someone to say "oops.. my mistake" if you can't even say it
yourself and admit your own little fuckups ?
"Wait wouldn't that be dangerous? Because we're narks, right? Gee how
thoughtful of you, I mean if everything you say about RCN is true, you
should run while you still can. Or do you want to take some of your friends
down along with you?"
This is the perfect example of twisting what he said against him and changing
the meaning of a common little greeting, a well known part of almost every
public letter in the scene. I strongly recommend you not to be so ironic next
time. It is offending and it's rarely a good way to say something.
After that's over with, I would like to add a few remarks of my own:
I was very upset when I noticed the log of the GODS meeting in a recent RCN
issue. Many of us were. I agree with Rio&ken 100% on this issue. This is an
obvious violation of the privacy of the group. I don't think i'd like the whole
world (well, the whole scene) to be able to see what I say in a private meeting
of my group. That's why it is called a private meeting. Now you've got everyone
scared that what they say may appear in the next RCN issue. Now, I was under
the impression you were trying to help the scene, to make it more enjoyable.
Well, you are not helping. If I was in GODS I'd have the sysops of our boards
nuke RCN for that thing you pulled off.
You should have respected the privacy of GODS.
Oh, and don't say 'well, that only shows you you should choose your members
more carefully', 'cause I ain't buying that, it's just avoiding a proper
answer. I would like a straight answer for once.
Another annoying issue is the recent commercializing of RCN.
When I saw an NFO, my first reaction was 'are these guys nuts?'.
Generally I'd just laugh and say 'good one RCN'.. but then I noticed you're not
kidding..
Now, you know you're a magazine.. not a group of some sort.. do you ?
RCN T-Shirts is a nice idea, reasonable if you live in today's society.. we
commercialize everything.. but a group ?!? a bloody WHQ ?!? that's going too
far, Hitex.
Electronic Magazines are nothing but nice software, a program you run and
enjoy. RCN might be a very popular software, but you don't see WHQs of doom
accessories, do you ?
Thank you for taking the time to go through what I had to say.
I hope you answer seriously this time, and keep my letter intact, even if it
means confronting a hard issue or admitting you were wrong. Nobody's perfect,
not even you.

Well.. There you have it. So in conclusion, I think Rebel Chicken is
spoiling what's left of RCN, and I still think that if Hitex would have taken
care of this, things would have looked much different. I'll leave the rest of
the morals and the rest of the lessons and facts this tells us about RCN and
Rebel Chicken to be figured out by you. I just hope RCN would keep on going,
since there are a few talented guys in there (e.g. Hitex, Xenon (perhaps),
Celestian, RATM). Let's hope this kind of thing doesn't happen again. Not to/in
RCN, and not to any of the other Magazines.
I encourage you to courier this issue of wave, and make this article
available and show it to as many people as you can, for it corrects an
injustice, and it is important and meaningful to all current and future
magazine and scene people.

The following is taken from a report of the Independent (a UK quality paper):
Programming work is underway to prevent thousands of court cases being called
for 31 Dec 99.
`The Lord Chancellor's department is implementing the scheme to prevent legal
chaos caused because aging court computers cannot speak Latin or understand
the concept of eternity.'
The problem is that many cases are adjourned `sine die' (literally `without
date') when they need to be disposed of without reaching any sort of verdict.
The intention is that they are never seen again. The computers used for
scheduling court hearings can't cope with this so clerks in some courts have
been entering the latest date that the machine knows about---31 Dec 1999.
This means that on 30 December these systems will print a huge list of all these
cases, for hearing the next day. The article suggests that up to 25,000 cases
may be involved in some inner city courts. The exact size of the problem is
unclear as other clerks in other courts may have used other tricks to get round
the problem. A computer `expert' is quoted:
When the first systems were introduced 25 years ago, the last day of 1999 was
still a long way off and it did not matter if these cases were adjourned until
that date. It is only just over four years away and we have got to do something
about it. Fortunately, computer software has advanced and the courts will not
have to record false dates under the new system.'
My comments:
The concept of `sine die' has been around for hundreds of years, it really
should have been in the original specification of the systems.
Also, if 31 Dec 99 is the latest date the system can cope with, it has bigger
problems than just dealing with `sine die' cases. It won't be able to adjourn
any cases to known, fixed, dates in 2000 and beyond.

Several articles in several sCENE-mAGs lately dealt with issues concerning the
internal machinery of those Magazines. Such issues were/are:
Ø being biassed / unbiassed
Ø (re-)editing Articles / Letters
Ø stealing / duping ideas
Ø censorship
Ø editors vs. their MaGazines
Ø being unfair/unfriendly in articles/irc-chatts
The flood of articles, different statements to such questions and the prejudices
about WaVe and other e-Zines made me do this article.
With this i'll try to clear those issues for WAVE, and ONLY for WAVE. This one
here does NOT deal with all the other zines out there!
So, about being biased:
FUCK THE WORLD, but there can't be anything/anyone who is NOT biased. It's all
a matter of how much one tries to be and how wide the spectrum of opinions is.
WaVe does normally NOT try to be really un-biased. All the articles show some
tendency and include the authors ideas, morals and experiences.
Whenever we do reviews we do our best to play God and do it without prejudices
and emotions, but that won't work out 100%.
What does a WaVe Editor do !?
The editing staff of Wave does NOT ALTER any articles, captures or anything
like that. What we (try) to do is to clean up grammatic and spelling mistakes
in ARTICLES. Interviews are NOT edited in that way! If we really DO alter
anything we will (of course) MARK this in some way (normally a comment in {})!
When we have to translate articles or get some article with a totally senseless
sentence it's hard to do the job without altering the sense, but as i already
mentioned such actions are documented and you can ALWAYS keep us from changing
anything in your texts by telling us NOT TO DO ANYTHING with it!
What we sometimes do is cutting out shit from captures! like:
'*juhududu joins channel gaySeX...'
If this is of no damn interest for the article it would only disturb the
reader! IF you are NOT happy with the editing of your or any other article
tell us and you'll get the totally unedited version in our next issue!
WAVE stole everything!
If you think we stole all the ideas for our articles, code and other shit you
should better turn your head more often, because we're surely hiding in a bush
near you to steal your pants!
When is the staff selective?
The point when the editing staff HAS TO select is when the issue is FILLED!
We simply CAN'T put more articles in than our program can suck ;)
If this happens our priority is the DATE of the work! An article that was sent
in 5 hours before we release will have worse chances to get in than one we
received 2 hours after the last release! The next question is: HEY!? perhaps
this new article is the best we ever got, but only if we publish it RIGHT NOW!?
This will then drive us mad and we'll decide this from chance to chance!
Who's fuckin' opinion is the one in here!?
The rules for WaVe are quite simple: the one who writes the article is
responsible for his shit. Just because we publish something doesn't mean
that it is everyone's opinion! IF IF IF the author is named WAVE THEN the
article is telling you something the whole bitching staff stands behind. If the
chief-editor (hey, damn this is me!?) writes something it STILL does not mean
it's the magazine's, it's simply HIS text (mine!?)!
You suckers are damn unfair and unpleasant all the time!
Well.. TRUE! See .. WaVe does not really CARE about who is published with some
extraordinarily embarassing capture or which group-shortcut is made up the most
weird way! We joke around in at least 60% of our articles and if you can't take
our jokes you got a problem and if you seek revenge we'll be glad to publish
your counter-attack. If you keep silent and just bash behind our backs it's
also fine with us - it's simply your damn decision.
Ok, now i hope those things are clear once and for all and the next THIS IS HOW

mailtrading ... which lasted till autumn 1987 when I was busted

... like Trianon and so on ... but under another handle ... which I
dont wanna mention here ... Oki ... I was busted in 1987 and
stopped piracy for about 2 years then ...

and from now on I got my software from them ...
in 1992 I got my first PC and 386/40 and needed software so
Rudi, Sysop of JAM, told me to buy a modem and start trading
between his board and another legacy .. the CELTIC PATH run
by Dark Star...
And so it started up again ... Calling was real fun for me and
so I still call and trade till today ...
During all this long time I was in several groups the most of
your readers don't know ... either it is because of their
age or of the lamness of my groups 8) ... but actually right
before DYNASTY I was in the council and founder of VORTEX. Which
first was founded as a courier-group. And with the time we got
more and more success in the ruhr area and started releasing some
stuff ... mainly utilities

ML> blush! hehe ... my BBS ... I started my BBS back in 1992 when
I started modem trading ... it was first installed under a beta
of PCE just for some friends to get their stuff w/o long ways
to my house ... And with time I even got some crazy guys which
started uploading :) ... and so it needed to expand.
Till 1994 I run PCB with 2 modem nodes via Deskview on a 386/40
.. was fast enuff for these 2 nodes ... 1995 I just wanted to
get this "HOLY" ISDN and for this I had to change to a real
multitasker ... so I bought an A3000 and run the BBS on /X
... uppps I forgot to mention that my BBS first was called
PENTACLE ... and with the change to /X and a 6 Node System I
decided to call it CRYPTIC SLAUGHTER ... and back in June/95
it was required to install the 3rd and 4th ISDN Nodes ...
The Amiga wasn't able to support 2 ISDN Cards, so I decided to
change back to PCB running under Novell Netware 3.12 ... the
prices of the hardware went down, so it was no great deal at
all. And here we are ... actually with 7 ISDN Nodes ...
2 ISDN and 1 28.8 are planned within the next couple of days
... At the moment the CS is really one of the best boards in
germany .. but this can change everyday .. A BBS depends on
its users .. they decide which BBS they call and support
... and I am proud that they choose me for this time ..
I hope it will last a little bit 8) Hmm ... I never wanted a
TOO-BIG-SYSTEM .. so the users are limited to 100 and I really
take care of the security and know nearly all users in real
life, too ... And NO unknown to me or my Cosysop got and get
access to my System!

is not our task to take care of the regional or international
exchange. We only just release a thing and make sure that it
hits all boards which are affiliated with us. If the southern
part of germany is unable to spread the releases all over it is
their fault. Maybe some traders should move from north to south 8)
or if someone pays my phonebill I will take care of it by
myself 8) just kiddin... But you see ... I think the most
important task for a group is to upload a release to their
boards and to all other major boards to prevent dupes.

all titles are translated to german language and published in
German in german only. So it is very hard for a german based
crew to get their hands on english titles. But with some effort
it is possible. And sometime a games will be published
multi-language. A German based crew never becomes number 1 in the

we thought it was best to promote 2 guys from each group to

Evertime you want to decide something you have to ask the
other 5 leader's.. Or who is the organizor in DNS ? All 6 ?

ML> Hmm .. In the beginning of this new DYNASTY in Germany all
leaders of the three groups know each other and a kind of
friendship began. We all had the same target in minds so it
was quite easy to run DNS. Our main target was to bring back
quality in german scene. Which means cracked and working
releases ... and I thought it was reached ... so as I said
the group nearly runs for itself. Only very important
decisions have to be make by all persons. And then we even
ask most of the "normal" members ... This important
decisions can be a merge or something like this. And usually
we are calling each other several times a week
.. just for fun .. It is real friendship in Dynasty. At the
moment we have some internal problems coz of our
international success ... DNS was founded for german scene.
So some guys don't understand why some others prefer english
titles. But we are working on it, and I think it will be
solved soon. But no more details about this Problem .. 8)
CD> Ok.. With Roy -also a leader of DNS- you have good connections
to SAC -a well known german "ARTIST-GROUP" which is drawing
ANSIS, ASCII's and making demo's- Are you satisfied with
his work ? Does he -and SAC- draw all the things which are
needed for the bbs's and so on ?
ML> Roy is leader or organiser of SAC ... and he is a
important part of DNS so it is quite normal that SAC did
most of our artwork. In my point of view Roy is the best
ansi creator .. I just like is own style. But there are not
so many scene-based artists so I can't say much about it.
Surely we would accept artwork from other guys, too,
if someone offers us.

ML> Fact is that I don't really know why the two groups HAD
problems. It might be a problem with NRG and EOD ... But
like in real life such things grow and grow ... and explode
with the DOENASTY and ENERGAY fakes. But nowaday these
hurdles were taken and we are friends. We still compete a
little bit but we aren't real enemies any more. Cooperation
with NRG ? Hmm I think it won't work ... for such a project
both groups are too different and some few single members don't
like each other ... And a new formed coop or even a merge would

became better and better. We even thought about putting BLH

so our main crackers did, too. That is only reason for LTD

Well another fortnight and here i am again ..
I hope you all enjoyed my article last time and will enjoy much more from me.
Let's begin what about a little more history on witchcraft before i start with
some nice spells.
The ancient power of Magic is both spiritual and scientific.
In recent years many people have become New Age people who ignore the need to
ground themselves scientifically. It takes more than a wishful thinking to be
a competent, practising Witch. All these New Age people are called white-
lighters because all they want to do is worship and be spiritual. There is
nothing wrong with this but they do not fully understand the scientific part
of it, how the magic works.
We must know both the physical and metaphysical principles that underlie all
magic and spiritual work so that we can use our powers correctly and for the
good of all.
When it all comes right down to it, Witches are still human.
We are not disembodied beings composed solely of white light:
We dont live in a blissful state of astral happiness. We laugh, we bleed,
we cry. We must know how to live in the world, not just between the worlds.
The Ancient Power Of Magic!

Certain things are everlasting. Magic is one of them. It comes from Persian
and Greek roots magus and magos which means wise.
The english word for magi, meaning wise men, comes from them. Witches are
among the the wise ones who participate in the work of creation in order to
nourish the people and protect the earth. Magic belongs to no one culture,
society or tribe - it is part of the universal wisdom.
Magic-makers in every century and in every culture have played similar roles
and shared similar characteristics. Whether they be called Witches, shamans,
priests, priestesses, sages, medicine people or mystics, they knew how to
heal the sick, summon herds, grow crops, assist at births, track the influence
of stars and planets also build temples and sacred mounds.
They knew the secrets of the earth, the powers of the moon, longings of the
human heart. They invented language, writing, metallurgy, law, agriculture
and the arts. Their rituals and ceremonies, their spells and incantations,
their prayers and sacrifices were expressions of their oneness with the source
of life, the Great Mother of all living things.
First and foremost the magic-makers were healers who could diagnose illness
and prescribe the correct medicine and ritual to heal their patients.
Always performed in a social context that included the family and relatives,
the ancient healers magic worked because it was holistic, drawing on the
patient's own healing power and working with the elements and spirits of the
patient's environment. It dealt with both the physical and spiritual causes of
disease - the invasion of harmful spirits or substance and the debilitating
effects of soul loss. Ancient healers could withdraw the harmful objects
from the body and retrieve lost souls.
Ancient magic workers were also spiritual leaders and counsellors who afflici-
ated at important rites of passage. They performed marriage, sanctified births
anointed the newborn, initiated young people into adulthood and led the souls
of the dying into the next world. Because they stood between the worlds of
spirit and matter, they could serve as bridges and mediators between the human
and the divine. People came to them with their visions and dreams. Sometimes
they alone could help an individual discover his or her guardian spirits and
sacred names.
As compelling Seers. Phohets and visonaries, they answered questions about the
past and future. They interpreted omens. they advised on auspicious times to
plant, get married, travel, go on vision quests. Some of them had the power
to raise storms, bring rain and calm seas.
