Feared Reader,
as you perhaps noticed - WaVe is coming back over and over again, and NOTHiNG
will keep us from doing so ... well ... a girlfriend for me would.... nah, shut
up, chug!... this was for my psycho-friend...
Ok, let's get back to work and some more serious shit. This is the first issue
we put together in half the time. So, from now on we're going to try to provide
WaVe every two weeks. The main complaint of you, the readers, was, that WaVe
did not have enough articles and interviews and the other point of criticism
was the lack of in-depth questioning in our interviews. I hope we were able to
do a better job on those things this time.
As always we appreciate your e-mail and chat-statements and will try to do our
best to serve everybody.
The WaVe team would be damn happy to get more people who are willing to
contribute to an e-MaG that tries to become a steady part of the pirate-scene.
As everyone knows BIG things take time to develop and change, and so does WaVe.
The executable, the styling, the monthly columns and the organisation changes
every day and so there is always the possibility, that some link of the
production chain fails. So happened last issue when we were cut off the nET and
when we finally released our dcc-courier-system COLLAPSED. As this is NOT what
we want it to be every fuckin' issue WaVe is DESPERATELY looking for DCC
couriers and some FTP site! Our WWW-PaGe is being designed right now and should
be up before we enter double-digit issues.
Some more glances into our future show a third style to come up with VGA/sVGA,
totally configurable interfaces, (finally) a soft-scroller and many, many more
ideas that are kept as secrets up to know... so, follow our way and find out!

LTD: Hi!
KOBOLD: wow .. let's go on!
WAVE: then tell our readers who you are
KOBOLD: right wingman at hannover96.. aeh a leader at
Backlash .. i think, or L-T-D?
LTD: yes, we started with the group on amiga in 1990,
very small. since that time kobold and me never
changed the group.
WAVE: so once BACKLASH always BACKLASH .eheh
how did you find together?
KOBOLD: oh actually we knew each other from earlier
LTD: kobold and me know each other since about 10 years!
KOBOLD: that just came... yo.. righty!
WAVE: what did you do on amiga?
KOBOLD: mailswapping and TRAINER in the early days
LTD: jow..in addition to that some intros, gfx, music and as
already said, lots of TRAINER...a half year later
first cracks followed.
WAVE: Explain our readers what you exactly mean by 'mailswapping'
KOBOLD: today most of the people do not know what it is, do they?
it was a horny time when there have been no modems and you
had to do everything by mail! You had the newest stuff delivered
to socalled PLKs and then you just had to fetch it from there.
WAVE: How did you continue?
LTD: as time went by other members joined us..
all lame, but we liked it...just kids
KOBOLD: the stock has been the same since then 8)
WAVE: What was your inspiration for the "scene"?
LTD: for me it was quartex....
i knew one of them, he showed me some things and made
some connections
but actually my lust was wakened in times of c64.
KOBOLD: Yes in those times we were orienting ourselves on
quartex & Trsi
i mean as a qualitative example, not for joining or so!
still worth mentioning would be that at that time L-T-D
was on of the best trainermakers in the world
LTD: around 92-93 on amiga, i made 2-3 trainers a week,
they have always been at least +10
WAVE: therefore you have been a pure amiga-group ...how did you
come to pc?
LTD: actually i already cracked pc-stuff at our amiga time
it was not like that, that i've never had a pc switched on
before but it was a bad experience for me how i came to my pc
KOBOLD: actually it was a stupid accident..one day my amiga
burned down, and at that time commodore was standing
in front of it's ruin, so it was a new pc.
WAVE: L-T-D, why an unfortunate accident, what had happened???
LTD: one day my amiga and all the other stuff was gone...
you know what i mean...
WAVE: you had a police visit???
KOBOLD: yes it was a great morning !
i can't remember getting up that early before 8)
WAVE: tell us something about it...
LTD: i was sleeping at my girlfriend's and my ma called at 6:00 am
and told me that the police would be there, this nearly kicked
me off, (my amiga was still on transfer).
on that day 14 other persons had been visited
in earlier time i had left my number in a bbs, i mean it was
my fault, but enough of that now! because sometimes i'm
asking myself for whom i'm doing all this shit
WAVE: most of the people draw back after such an incident,
what was the attraction for you to continue?
LTD: well one has to be the first, that others become aware.
i have a computer since the age of 12 so then you
can't simply stop computering....
KOBOLD: doesn't everybody ask himself that.. on every 15th in a
month i always ask myself when the phonebill comes!
LTD: i will retreat in about 1-2 years and gain some
profit out of my knowledge...
WAVE: what have you learned from your scene-computering?
LTD: well technical knowledge and of course software-
programming too, and so on...
WAVE: what do you think how the german scene is developing?
KOBOLD: Well, i think the scene will soon come to an end.
The CD-RiPs get bigger and bigger and Games are delivered on more CDs
because that seems to be the only way to copy-protect them...
LTD: nowadays ripping is more important than any copy-
protection.
WAVE: let's continue the way of your career, what was after
the bust and the change onto pc?
LTD: well some members were already on pc so i have had a fast
entrance.
WAVE: did you develope yourself at the same time to a pure pc
group or have you still been active on amiga?
KOBOLD: at the beginning we did both!
LTD: after the disappeareance of the amiga i did nothing for
about 1/2 year, and because of the reason that i was the
only who produced something, the amiga-sector was dead
immediatly
KOBOLD: Yo, amiga, but we also released PC-stuff before.
LTD: after my break i had to find out that some groups
were not as professional as on amiga.
WAVE: how did you had your pc-group constructed? did you do
something else as the others, that you could transfer
your professionality from amiga to pc?
LTD: well we did it more just for fun
there was never any constraint in our group
KOBOLD: we established it out from the amiga section,
the old amiga members changed one by one onto the pc or
they provided themselves with one
LTD: and i always took a special regard on our releases...
or i immediately concerned on them when there were any
problems
WAVE: do you think that the other groups take more regard on
"getting it out fast"?
LTD: oh yes....i'm sorry..
KOBOLD: sometimes it was or it still is like that!
WAVE: in your opinion, are there any differencies between amiga-time
and pc-time?
LTD: nowadays on pc it's somehow different, sometimes you have
to wait till beginning of the week, to be able to release
something, that it will be traded, because the telekom
collects to much for id calls...unlike in the past!
KOBOLD: well in those times there were no limits concerning
trading .. but nowadays it's not so tight anymore
LTD: but it's still fun....as long as i can pay for it
WAVE: how did in your opinion trading change in the last years?
LTD: i think everybody knows himself..
i'm really angry about the telekom...
KOBOLD: enough of that, people who did the amiga-times with at&t
know what went on earlier!
LTD: no it can't be, that the longdistance rate from 2-5 at night is
cheaper than calls in the city at day!
WAVE: jow let's wait till 97 when finally other suppliers
will push the prices down
LTD: i don't think that there will many changes at the beginning
because the suppliers will take concern on firms first,
private users will have to wait some more years!
WAVE: do you think the inet is unfit for trading?
LTD: i just say " BIG brother is watching you!"
i think some do not know, what's happening in the inet!
KOBOLD: in addition to that the cps is incorrect, on most unix-servers steady
logging is common, so they can always check what is being transfered
from whom to where...
LTD: if you do not have a fake account, you will have to
look round one day!
WAVE: well is trading in the inet to dangerous in your opinion?
LTD: i don't think it is too dangerous, but one should be
prepared!
WAVE: with your statements you surely have rattled lots of people
who are new in this sector...would you like to give them
some tips how they can prepare themselves?
KOBOLD: everybody has to make his own decision if inet trading is
dangerous .. it is too slow for me concerning cps, i
prefer the nightrate!
LTD: the best would be a secure account on a university
computer, where you have an account without leaving
behind any informations!
or you have good connections to your provider!
KOBOLD: hmm how you can prepare yourself? it's very easy, just
always think you could be busted and who can't do that
should let it be 8)
WAVE: Which groups in germany are concurrence for you?
LTD: there is no concurrence, i like that there are true
arrangements between blh and dns.... i think it's much
better that way!
KOBOLD: well but be honest what do we have in germany ENERGY,
DYNASTY, BACKLASH because of the reason that BLH & DNS are talking
more than anything else there is only ENERGY and they are releasing more
utils than games at the moment, so what do we still have there
i don't wanted to say that ENERGY is poor ... i just wanted to say that,
not that i'm getting rapped by someone 8) )
LTD: there is one exception, this already made me angry
like all the other groups
WAVE: what exactly made you go mad?
KOBOLD: no comment!

as a group!

on my part..and costed me a mere 60$

<Anon> The second time.. I got a letter from at&t.. stating that illegal
calls where made from my phone line (carded calls) and that i owed
them a sum of money.. and that it was a crime. I ended up owing
at&t 672$
<Marbz> Ouch...are there any criminal charges being pressed at you?
<Anon> No, because i am a minor.
<Marbz> Did they contact your parents or your legal guardian? And if so
what did they say to you and what is your punishment?
<Anon> Yah, they did.. and my mom was just mad.. and made me pay it...
and my dad doesnt know about it.. cause if he found out...
he'd casterate me..
<Marbz> Hahah...well what about your internet access or shell accounts etc.
Are you banned from Netcom or any providers now because of it?
<Anon> Not because of the charges by at&t... but for trying to hack root on
netcom.. they put my shell account "on hold" and told me that i'd
have to call them voice to re-activate it... and that they needed to
ask me some questions.
<Marbz> If or when you call netcom what do you think they will ask and what
will your answers be?
<Anon> I'm not going to call them... i'm going to have my mom cancell

Ok, the lack of a FTP, WWW and members in the channel is mainly caused by the
fact, that nearly ALL members got busted! We are damn close to put up those
services, but we want to do it well, so it takes a little longer.. from issue#10
on there will be both.
The channel is the other problem.. we got some uni-bot from taiwan, who gets on
our nerves..he somehow manages to override the ban and kicks/de-ops our bots and
members. Further.. i am not un-biassed. Why should i? Whenever i write an
article it is MY opinion and i use the arguments and facts, that I found.
If you don't like it write a reply.. (ya did.. very few others do).

i did review biggest then or at least the best-known ones. Defacto missing was a
mistake. I had a 'chapter' about your mag, but i cut it out. Defacto and RCN are
for sure comparable, NTM was for quite some time the one with the best known
writers and Wave is going to become what RCN and Defacto are/have been.

until then i knew 2 defacto issues and the coding got on my nerves... the
articles were not interesting and i found many bugs and mistakes.... i did
review your mag too at first, but then we decided to short-cut/re-write the
article. This grading of Defacto is done by someone who did not REALLY test it
through, but all the article was ment to say is that rcn is on top, and that we
had enough response from readers that said we were to rank in second place.

This week i'd like to talk about the convention of EOD, Dytec and Vortex, that
made Dynasty a kick-ass german group in the scene, but Energy should not be
forgotten, though they didn't show anything lately!?
Now one can argue about the effect of this cooperation...
If all the releases are okay and cracked well or if they are again fakes-only.
Certain is, that at the time all three did their own thing there were more
releases than now and there was a lot more action...
Of course i also want to write about the frictions between the groups, which
were a lot of fun for traders or other outsiders ... subject was, as usual, the
question of being 'faster' and honor ...
As the name DYNASTY implies a new dynasty was founded, that brought us good
releases up to now... But, there is also a decrease of traders and couriers...
Seems like there is hardly anyone who is willing to spread the stuff any more!?
Everyone only leeches what he likes ... (ok, with those new cost that is
understandable !?) or they get their stuff another way...
It's just sad when only north- and east-germany boards get the wares and many
other boards don't ... There also is no real try of the groups to change that...
!?? WHY?
Sure, the cost became damn high, but there still is the dead-time (2-5am) :)
well... or the group-leaders are simply too young and not allowed to stay up
that late... ? :)))))
See, i don't wanna trample on anyone's back, but considering all that i have to
conclude, that the german scene does NOT have a real top-group right now, that
could compete with the us-teams.
That probably is due to the lack of organization-talents ....
The group-styling made quite a decent in comparison to e.g. six years ago.
Where have the good old club-type qualitys of the groups gone !?
So, we'll have to follow the developments .. i hope i can make someone write a
reply or his opinion of this subject. Preferably i'd like to get the leaders's
opinions and suggestions!?

As an ansi artist I often meet Group-Members or Sysops, that promise me heaven
on earth if i paint them a logo or a pic, that 'differs from anything before'
and 'surpasses anything before'!
In most cases i accept that and of course i try to do my best, but i don't do
that just for fun anymore, because i don't have the time for it and my motto is
'Time's money'.
My demands are surely not money only.. hehe.. nahnahnha.... -:=)
I like to be talked down -:) and get me Dizzys or Stuff ...
or some other duty or way of comparison... (courier things -:))
I really think this is really ok, because i like the saying 'you scratch my back

In this Wave issue i will write something about the kewlest ansi paint program
in the moment ... it's called ACIDDRAW and of course it's from ACID (one of the
best art groups in the scene)!
I have used TheDraw for a long time, but then i had the luck to get ACIDDRAW ... now its possible to paint quick and cool pictures and
Logos with a few keystrokes. Many of its basic features, and their organization
is parallel to TheDraw.
In addition to these, however, it has many refined and added features. The
authors of this effecient and tightly organized utility have sought to include
the most useful tools for manipulating ANSI and ASCII text that are conceive-
able. The ideas of some of the most experienced artists have been implemented
in every possible way in order to create the most useful utility of its kind
up to now.
ACiDDraw v1.2 includes the following features :
˛ Usage of XMS for multiple pages.
˛ Dos Shell.
˛ Pascal,Assembly and C saving ability.
˛ Extended background colors (a.k.a. iCE Colour)
˛ Full screen editing.
˛ Global commands.

For all ansi and aciddraw users i have a news that could be interesting. We will
perhaps see another 'revolution' in the use of Ansi and ASCII manipulating
programs. I got info about an ICE-Proggy, which is said to become even better
than AcidDraw and that will come with more features than its competitors...
ACID has used THEDRAW as model but ICE will use ACIDDRAW as thier model,
so i think it could be interesting to wait for ICEdraw and get a program, that
makes the next step of development...
If ICEdraw is out i will inform you about features and about the result of the
comparison between ICE- and ACIDdraw.
