Introduction


Doctor V64 is the world’s first Nintendo 64 emulation/backup machine. Bung Enterprise is the worldwide leading manufacturer of backup/emulation machine since 1987. Bung Enterprise was the first in the world to introduce the Nintendo 8 bit, 16 bit and 64 bit emulation/backup machine. It is also the first and only one in the world to manufacture a Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, PC Engine, Game Boy, Game Gear emulation/backup machine.

Chapter 1 - Installation


Insert one end of the AV cable into the Doctor V64 output and other end into to the Video In slot of the television. Plug in the power supply.
To connect to a Nintendo 64(N64):

Step 1: Take out the protective cover on top of the Doctor V64 and insert the connection adapter. The bigger side of the connection adapter should be at the bottom.

Step 2: Take out the slot cover under the N64 and put the N64 on top of the Doctor V64. The N64 will fit nicely on top of the Doctor V64.

Step 3: Insert a cartridge into the emulation adapter. Preferably a cartridge with SRAM like Mario 64 or Goldeneye. Insert the emulation adapter with the cartridge in it into the N64 cartridge slot.

Step 4: Insert the N64’s AV cable into the Doctor V64’s AV Input slot. (Please note that there will be no AV cable connecting the N64 and the TV.)

Chapter 2 - Quick Review for Basic Functions


Functions of keys when a VCD or Music CD is inserted into the drive:

PREV - Go to previous chapter (Please note that some VCDs movies have only one track and this will not work. Use the FR button)

NEXT - Go to next chapter (Please note that some VCDs movies have only one track and this will not work. Use the FF button)

STOP - To stop playing

PAUSE/PLAY - Play the VCD or Music CD. Pressing once while the disc is playing will put it in pause mode, pressing again will play it again.

FR - Fast rewind while playing. Amplify sound at pause mode.

FF - Fast forward while playing. Switch sound channel at pause mode(For dual track VCD movies).

CH - Switch between Stereo, Mono and By Pass Mode.

Menu - Press this button to capture any screen image during VCD playback


Functions of keys when a N64 data CD is inserted into the drive:

PREV - Move the cursor up the CD’s file list.

NEXT - Move the cursor down the CD’s file list

STOP - To get out of CD’s file list or to get out of sub directory

PAUSE/PLAY - To read the CD’s file/game list or load a file or game

FR - Move the cursor to the left of the list

FF - Move the cursor to the right of the list

CH - Go one page up the file list

Menu - Go one page down the list


The Doctor V64’s menu can be access only at the main screen. Press stop to get out of the CD’s file list.

Functions of keys in a menu screen:

PREV - Page up

NEXT - Page down

STOP - Get out menu screen

PAUSE/PLAY - Load the function/program

FR - Go up the list

FF - Go down the list

CH - Not used

Menu - Not used


Chapter 3 - VCD/Music CD Playback Functions

Please refer to Chapter 2 for the functions of the buttons.
The following are more advanced functions for VCD playback.

  • Switching sound channels (For VCD playback only)
    While playing a VCD or Music CD, press the “PLAY” button to pause. Press the “FF” button to change the setting. This function is used for Karaoke VCD disc or VCD movies disc with dual sound tracks recording (e.g Cantonese and Mandarin). The settings are as follows:
    L/R – Normal audio output (Default setting)
    R/L – Flip left and right audio channels
    L only – Output left channel audios only (e.g. will only output the music audio for Karaoke)
    R only – Output right channel audio only

  • Volume control (For VCD playback only)
    While playing a VCD movie, press the “PLAY” button to pause. Press the “PREV” button to lower the volume (1 is the lowest) or press the “NEXT” button to increase the volume (8 is the highest). Default setting is at 4.

  • Capture VCD movie screen image
    Press the “Menu” anytime during VCD playback to capture screen images into the memory. The screen will pause for 5 seconds while capturing the shot into the memory. Capture up to 100 screen shots into Doctor’s V64’s internal 128Mbit memory.

Chapter 4 - Functions when in used with Nintendo 64


  • To load a game from CD
    Press the “PLAY” button, select the game from the file list and press the “PLAY” button again. Wait for the line “You Can Play Game Now” and turn on your Nintendo 64.
  • Loading Saved Game Memory (SRAMs) V64***.sav file (support by BIOS 1.53B or later)
    SRAMs are not games, it is the game’s memory which stores what stages are completed, record times, etc. The following are the steps to load a SRAM (V64***.sav file):
    Go to the main screen, the main screen has the word “STOP” or “DOCTOR V64 V1.XX” on the top of the screen.
    Step one - Press the “ MENU ” button to access the menu
    Step two - Goto the second page by pressing the “ NEXT ” button
    Step three - Goto the “ Upload Save Data->N64 ” option by pressing the “ FF ” button.
    Step four - Press “ PLAY ” to load the program
    Step five - After the program has been loaded, press the “ STOP ” button twice to go to the main screen
    Step six - Press the “ PLAY ” button to load the CD-ROM’s file list, goto the V64***.sav file and press the “ PLAY ” button again.
    Step seven - After the line “ Save file load done ”, switch on the Nintendo 64. Turn off the Nintendo 64 when prompt by the line “ You may turn off your Nintendo 64 ”. If this line does not comes out, it means that the SRAM has not been successful loaded.
    Step eight - Load the respective Nintendo 64 game and turn on the Nintendo 64.
  • Apply a patch (V64***.ips)
    Patches are files that change the parameters of games. E.G. unlimited life, unlimited ammo, invincible, freeze enemy, etc. It is similar to Game Shark Cheat code, except that the tedious steps of keying in the cheat code is skipped.
    The following are the steps of applying a patch:
    Step one - Load the game file, when the line “You Can Play Game Now” appears, do not turn on your Nintendo 64
    Step two - Press the “PLAY” button, the CD ROM’s file list will appear, goto the respective patch file (V64***.ips) and press the “PLAY” button.
    Step three - When the word “OK” appears, turn on your Nintendo 64
  • Switching the audio mode between STEREO, MONO and BYPASS
    While playing a game, the audio mode can be adjusted. The Doctor V64 has a built in SPATIALIZER 3-D stereo chip, and it is the default setting. To turn off the surround sound effect, press the “CH” button once, it will change the setting from “STEREO” to “MONO” mode. Pressing the “CH” button again will change the setting to “BYPASS” mode which will transmits original signal. By pressing the “CH” button again at “BYPASS” mode will change it back to “STEREO” mode.


Chapter 5 - Connection to PC


The V64 can be connected to a PC via a parallel port data switch/printer extension cable. Connect one end of the cable to the V64 and the other end to the parallel/LPT port of the PC.

There are two popular programs that can be used to connect the V64 to the PC. DOS based TPC 2.0 and window based RTOOL 64.

  • TPC 2.0 (TPC2.exe) - TPC2.exe is a communication software program that is officially release by Bung Enterprise. The following step are to download a game to the V64:
    Step one - Type “tpc2” at the dos command prompt
    Step two - Turn on the V64
    Step three - Enter the game name at the tpc2 command prompt. It might be necessary to type out the directory of the game file. The file will automatically be transferred.
  • Rtool 64 - Please refer to te help section of the program.
