Beiging from Apartments and Residences by Zork916
*******************************************************************************
Yo! Ok, last month I did Redboxing, this month lets do Beigeboxing! If you
have only a little knowledge of phreaking, you still should know what a beige
box is. The simplest beige box is a modular phone cord with the connector cut
off on one end and alligator clips connected to the red and green wires. I'm
assuming you already have one or at least a good set of plans, so I won't go
into the making and uses of one here.
Apartments
----------
There are several types of setups you should be on the lookout for when
scouting out a beiging site.
1) One board setup - Usually seen in apartment complexes that are one big
building, where all of the lines terminate in one big box. This is by far the
easiest place to phreak from since you have at least 50 or more lines at your
fingertips.
2) 4plex setup - My personal favorite. Each 4plex (or townhouse, whatever you
want to call them) has an access panel in one of the carports that is almost
NEVER secured. Hook it up and beige like crazy.
Sometimes the 4plexes will have a small 1-2' little green dome out in front of
the building. While you will probably be able to get a tone with those, very
rarely can you find one that's secluded enough to risk opening up. Stick to
the panels in the carports and you'll be doing just fine.
4plex Access
------------
Tools You'll Need:
Beige Box
A Phillips or standard screwdriver
Telephone/laptop with a modem
GOLD BOX!!! (optional)
Flashlight
GLoves
Find a 4plex that's out out at the edge of the apartment owner's property.
Take a look at the carports. One of them will have a small access panel in
the wall. Crank it open and you'll see 4 or 5 pairs of screws. A little bit
of experimenting will be needed to determine which screw is ring and which is
tip, but after that you'll be a happy camper. This is also the PERFECT place
to set up a Goldbox! Put one together (plans are included at the end of this
file), hook it up inside the panel, close it up, and you're set to go. Just
be sure to take it out before the people get their bill and bitch up a storm!
Boxing from a Residence
-----------------------
If you're willing to go into someone else's backyard to use your box, here's
a look at what you can expect.
Most houses will have a regular box somewhere in their backyard -- just open
it up, find the red and green wires and go on from there.
However, houses that have been built in the last few years or ones that have
had the phone wiring worked on recently will have a new kind of box. This box
not only has terminals for your gator clips, it has a modular jack so that (to
quote the instructions inside the box) "If you suspect that the lines inside
your home may be damaged, connect a phone to this jack....." This makes our
task much easier. A line with clips isn't even needed!
Good luck with this! Remember: screw the phone company over as much as you can
and have FUN doing it!
