The Interview:
_____________________________________________________________________
twist> what got you when did you start modeming?
TB> shit, um about a year ago or so :)
twist> what kind of boards did you call?
TB> well, the first BBS experience I had was getting a um..*special*
copy of Telefinder and trying to set up a BBS of my own...From
there I called all of the Telefinder boards I could because I
thought that they were cool. The next next thing I called was
probably Compu$erve. I thought it was prettty neet-o neet-o too.
Then came my new 14.4 modem and I called AOL (It had a 10 hour
free thing in it). From there I found BBS listings and other
people that told me about 916 BBSes. I called a BBS called 24th
Street exchange and found a HUGE BBS list a there. I was amazed.
Then I found some Macintosh BBS and you know the rest story.
twist> what mac board do you frequent the most?
TB> shit, i'd have to say mine :) no, really, I guess nowadays I call
M.M., The Empire (before Weed killed it.), Silent Eye and some
other IBM boards, but you asked for Mac.
twist> what did you think of weeds "murder" of the empire?
TB> He was a dumbass to u/l the Herpes Killer to Darth Vader. He
shouldn't of had it in the first place though. :)
twist> it wasnt my fault...
twist> What got you into the h/p thing?
TB> I found a few issues of Phrack on Compu$erve and read them. From
there I read any textfile I could get my hands on. I still read
any textfile I can get my hands on. I still read it (Phrack) for
just to see what it has in it...
twist> are the "new" phracks are as good as the old ones where?
TB> I liked the first 20 or so issues cause they had the edge of
anarchy and newness. Now all it is is a hmmm...how should I say
this...ummmm
twist> its a commercial hacking zine?
TB> Yeah basicaly...An archive of h/p technology is I guess what it
should be called...I still read it just to see what it has in
it...
twist> Whats is your involvement with the PHRuWT iNC. oragnization?
TB> Well, PHRuWT iNC. was started by Filbert and myself about in
hmmm, October. I am the co-founder and editor of the zine. I
also run the PHRuWT iNC. W.H.Q. BBS.
twist> do you think that there is a demand for your zine?
TB> We wouldn't be getting feedback from so many readers if there
weren't.
twist> where can i get the zine (i forget..:)
TB> You can get it on any PHRuWT iNC. distro site (the file's
included in this issue of PHRuWT), ftp.netcom.com
/pub/fi/filbert, or e-mail phruwt-l@netcom. for a mailing
list and subscription
twist> do you ever think the zine will be distributed in hard copy
like 2600?
TB> It's hard to tell. I doubt it though, becuase I really want to
keep it an e-zine., Not some peice of shit that's printed out
and is commercialized (no disrespect to 2600).
twist> what do you think of the sudden popularity of the "hacker"?
TB> I think that the media has taken the "hacker" and blown the word
up into some sort of information superhighway (YUK! I hate that
term.) bandit. As usual they blew it out of proportion. Like i
was watching the news last night and it had some guy on it who
was caught cloning cell fones. The newscasters said, "He was a
part of an underground elite hacking orginization". geesh...
twist> that makes me sick as well...
twist> do you believe that you are "part of an underground elite
hacking orginization"
TB> No, I believe that I like to gather information and not DESTROY
things. That's what I've seen a lot of since I've been in the
h/p community. I am no veteran, nor claim to be, but I feel that
all of these newbies that are in it to destroy shit are just
plain lamers. It's not the hacking mentality that should be
going around. I the think that this could lead to the end of
hacking someday, and probably will be sooner than we think...
twist> have you read alt.2600 lately?
TB> don't get me started...
twist> I was reading it the other day and ive noticed more and more posts like: "I WANNA BE A HACKER, HELP ME!", and, "WHATS A GOOD A HACKING BOOK?" What do you have to say to these people?
TB> Reminds me of this one guy who logged onto my BBS a while ago and
asked me to tell him how to hack. I said, get some text and
actually READ it, then call me in about a year. Also, I've
noticed on alt.2600 that it has turned into alt.where's.the.faq,
alt.how.do.i.make.a.redbox, and so forth...These people should be
drug out into the street and shot in my opinion.
twist> they dont deserve the dignity of being drug out..just shot...
twist> yeah i agree, What do you think about all the people who
think they run alt.2600 like there hacking gods or something?
TB> Those guys suck...especially that will guy. he gets on my nerves.
you can only tell a person to go check out 127.0.0.1 so many
times.
twist> yeah and they fall for it though. what about AOL, do they
deserve the right to be on the net besides maybe FTP?
TB> I think that everyone has a right to be on the net. I just don't
like many of the people from AOL that think they know
everything...
twist> do you know how to forge mail?
TB> doesn't everyone?
twist> good, just checking..:)
TB> hehee
twist> actully, youd be supprised how many o people can even do
something that simple...
TB> please don't tell me about it....
twist> do you read alt.2600 often?
TB> I didn't ever avidly read alt.2600, I rarely read it now...
twist> thanks for your time...
TB> no problem...c-ya
twist> bye.
