Editorial
by Civax / Moon Hunters

At last. We only once had this kind of long delay in the release of CFX
news, if you remember CFX #26. I just fed up with you guys not writing
articles or writing half a paragraph and submit it like that. Anyway, I
hope I found a solution:

The TEN Project.
What exactly the TEN project is you can read in article 08, but I will
make it brief. Me and a bunch of other editors are going to share some
articles between us. PAiN and HUGI are only 2 of the mags taking part
in this project and I hope it will work out great. So, whenever you'll
delay submitting articles, I'll just post in some articles from around
the globe! How easy for me! :)

---
Most of you already knows it, but i'm moving soon to work at Tel Aviv.
This means I won't be available during weekdays for the comming months
as I rent a room there and work all day. Still, I'll be checking the
BBS, so you better behave...

---
Octan, I *LOVE* walt-disney and "Mulan" rules. And thats it! :)

---
Remember the idea of kombat? An all-Israeli demo? It starts now, so be
sure to read and join the ISD project. Its gonna be lots of fun!

---
Myth'98 is soon. Have you started to code your demos?

ÍÍ The ISD project ÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍ[02]ÍÍ

The ISD project

by Holograph / BSP
aka Tomer Gabel

... Introduction

In short, ISD stands for Israeli Scene Demo. This is a unique project
mainly organized by members of BSP and Immortals. The entire staff will
be published along with the invitation intro, which is almost finished
and will hopefully be released very soon.
This project, supposedly first of its kind, is a nation-wide demo
release. Everyone, from whatever group or area of expertise, may donate
to this intro in however fashion he sees fit. The organizing team will
then inspect all contributions and decide upon the best ones according
to rules set by the coordinators.

... Organization

The organization team is composed of several people, each responsible for
his own field. We have yet to make the final arrangements as to who is
responsible for what, so I will publish the current list of the organization
team members. This may change:

Ohad Pressman (Kombat / Immortals) General Organizer
Tomer Gabel (Holograph / BSP) General Organizer
Code Coordinator
Miki Gabel (Protopad / BSP) General Organizer
Script Coordinator
Tomer Baruch (Shudder / YOE) Music Coordinator
Michael ? (Mik / Quasaras) Graphics Coordinator

... Getting the most updated information

[Note to Civax: If you decide to make an actual forum for the ISDP, notify
me and I'll make sure it's updated on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. If so,
add the following passage, otherwise remove it.]

A good way would be to call the Coders F/X BBS and check out the ISD forum;
this forum will be kept updated as progress accelerates.

[Civax, remove upto here.]

We will, of course, publish an invitation intro (as stated, it's already in
its final completion phases) with complete, accurate, findal information.
Other than this, either send a message to one of the general organizers
on Coders F/X or send them E-mail.

Miki GabelProtopad E-mail through Holograph.

... Conclusion

We will release the invitation intro in a week, hopefully less. We are
doing our best to make this project work, but WE NEED YOUR ASSISTANCE!
The demo is up to you, we're just organizing this for the fun of it,
whilst feeling that we're actually doing something to help the Israeli
and international demoscene by doing it.

Thanks ahead,

ÍÍ Size optimization, who needs it ? ÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍ[03]ÍÍ

Size optimization, who needs it ?
---------------------------------
by Kombat / Immortals
aka Ohad Pressman

hi,

The most common answer to the above question is simply 'nobody', well,
except for M|<r0$0ft. Just for example try to compile one of the ptc
examples under 'visual c 5.x', more than 200k of a simple fire example,
yeah, piece of cake. Anyhows, just for the fun, and not for any other
matter (people don't get more intelligent after this just more tired),
some nice people came up with another idea to waste 'valuable' coders
time, size compos. Whats a size compo ?? Its almost the only place in
the world where The Godel Ken Kovea, and for all you hot shots out
there, the Godel needs to be as tiny as possible...

Write a rotating torus in 256 bytes, a fire in 40 byte or a nibbles in
48 bytes. That would usually be defined as a waste of time, but having
the opportiunity to compete at such sized optimized competitions is
rather fun, deciding wether to code your demo (Israely scene ? sorry
wrong sentence), play some quake or take a byte off your nibbles can be
a hard descision...

The latest compo was maintained by a nice german guy called Adok. The
task was to code the smallest nibbles game. Nibbles, remember that
little worm runnig around and getting stuck into the walls and herself?
Thats it, go code that in assembler. The first time I saw the compo
page I said 'hehe, cool', the best entry at that time was just about
71 bytes and it was by Submissive/cub^$n. I started coding immediately,
really fun, my first version was 120 bytes, already better than the
worst entry at that time (125 bytes). After some playing around I got
it down to about 100 and something bytes. I called up Eyal and said,
"eyal, blah blah blah blah", and he said 'cool', after some cooperation
we got it to about 100 or so. The next day Silvatar comes over for the
usual demo/quake, once again I recieve the traditional 'cool' reply.
From there on it took a few days to get the entry down to 70 bytes, and
that's about it, we just got bored and had other stuff to do :)
The compo is now over, does 70 bytes sound good ? Well, it got us only
the mere 42nd place out of 67. The best entry was coded by a guy called
Altair and he really 'Sihek Ota'. All entries/info/HTTP packets/etc can
be found on:

http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Bay/6062/compo.htm

Adok is comming up with another sized optimized compo, with a cool
idea this time (my idea, cheers), so head on to the Adok homepage and
make the israely scene (what, whats the Israely scene ?) proud.

Yalla bye,

oh, and dont forget :

dont drink and drive
make demos

p.s - if your an extremely talented 3D modeller (3ds4/max) and have
some free time at the Summer call me up (not for a demo) (097742244).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Remarks: as I know some non-hebrew speaking sceners out there are reading
this, I found it best to translate some sentences here, so I won't damage
kombat's articles:
"The godel Ken Kovea" (Paragraph.1) - "The size does counts"
"Sihek Ota" (Paragraph.3) - err.. a hard one to translate. mabye "he showed
everybody!" (Err, I'll be flamed for this...)

ÍÍ Computers at year 2000 ÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍ[04]ÍÍ

Computers at 2000
by Fulgore / GB
-----------------

Year 2000 is coming and many questions pop up. What mountains can man's
mind climb? Technology is changing faster that we can't even move on with
it. Even today our world can't be seen without computers, and it isn't
weird that a lot people in newspapers now try to answer the question: how
the PC of XXI century will look like? I will try to merge their ideas.

Usually when talking about speed of evolution on computers, talk about
speed of Processors. Albert Yu - vice-prez of Intel says that in 2000 will
have 900Mhz PCs and in 2006 it's gonna be like 4Ghz.

"And there will be no end for this! - says Daina Crelle, director of
marketing in AMD - Our technology just need some times to walk on and
on... Tomorrow's PC's will play with hardcore 3D graphics and audio/video
files and ofcourse great amount of data coming from the high-speed Web,
that's why we need every Hz of processor".

But as Mike Hogan from PC World said: "Even fastest processor will be damn
slow if there will be no channels for lightspeed data transmission
channels. Intel and others try to solve this problem by creating faster
BUSs. The new 440LX AGPset by Intel, called Accelerated Graphic Port) will
be faster than PCI. It will connect Processor with gfx adapter and RAM to
store big texture archives that used in 3D applications"

If talking about data-saving hardware, for example, David M. Stone from PC
Magazine sees it's future in Holographic. He says that using holographic-
oriented hardware will bring us "unending" memory. Ofcourse regular
hardware will be bigger than ever. Capacity of harddrives grow by 60%
every year and price for MB falls down fast. It seems that in XXI century
we'll have 200Gb harddrives... " But there is no such thing as too-big HD,
as soon as software grows, capacity will grow too... Windows 2000 will
probably take about 18Gb and Word - 1Gb". Optic disks will be provided by
DVD-ROM and DVD-RAM.

Talking about technical outlook - we will replace out monitors with liquid-
crystal ones that we can put in every place we like.

If that keyboard and mouse will change? That is depends on what changing
will happen in interface between the man and PC. Bill Gates says that the
hardware future will bring us more powerful PCs that could talk and listen.
There will be no need in typing or moving your mouse, just tell PC what to
do, and he'll do it for you!

So how the PC will look in next century? Magazine "PC World" asked Mark
Wizer, main technical developer at Xerox in Palo-Alto, that pointed out
this points:

1) Main Processors.
PCs will stand like our bookshelf and the amount of RAM will be counted
in GBs and harddrives in Terabytes.
2) Monitors.
They will become flexible, so you can unroll it after taking it out of
your pocket.
3) Input.
Usage of voice recognition won't remove mouse and keyboard. Why? Because
of privacy. Computer who you can talk to, will be a terrible chatter,
who will tell everyone your secrets ;)
4) Cables.
You will need a lot of them, they will be everywhere, but you will get
rid of cables that connect us to phoneline, mouse, keyboard.
5) Paper.
All that you can write on or read from - books, documents, will be
converted into an image on your screen.
6) Internet.
Pocket small network-compartable computer will allow you to connect to
Net from anywhere.

Today it amazes us, tomorrow no. Mike Detrouse, philosopher, says that in
2017 year we will not even look at computer news, they'll become everyday
routine stuff. Coz none nowadays screams "COOL!" when he sees a new
freezer...

Well beware... It is less than two years to third century...

For discussions on this theme, write me to fulg0re@yahoo.com or on CFX BBS.

how to make a bong -- a three-step simple approach
( and alot of other things follows that guide... )
the following article (c) 1998 zoltech industries
by Borzom / zoltech industries
all rights reserved
-----------------------------------------------------------

disclaimer: this article is written for educational purpose
only. the author is not responsible for any seven year old
kids to abuse this article in any way. this article was
written while i tested my new bong (for educational purpose
ofcourse (: ), cause my old one fucked, and one of the
motherfuckers on the irc had the nerves to bother me with
this stupid article. it sucked.

note: http://zoltech.base.org is still under construction,
and does not exist yet. http://clax.base.org is not updated
for a few months now, and will be gone when zoltech page
will be constructed.

the article is written using vi under linux.

-----------------------------------------------------------

step one:

you need the base: a plastic bottle. suggested bottles are
'mei eden' bottles, but any other will do just fine.
remember, you can be creative, you can decorate your bongs,
but we will get later to that point. once you got a bottle,
you get to step two. dont forget to complete step one first.

step two:

you need some kind of tube. usually you can cut one on the
street, these are the black fucking tubes that water the
grass and trees and all that green shit that grows there.
now make one side of the tube a bit sharp, and leave
the other one flat. i have used my ascii drawing skills
to demonstrate how it should look, so look at drawing 1.A

(DRAWING 1.A) this is the fucking tube i am talking about

____ <-- the upper side of the tube
| |
| |
| | <-- the tube itself, and its empty from the inside
| |
| |
| |
| |
| |
| /
|/ <-- the lower side of the tube (optional to be sharp,
but may be helpful while inserting the tube into
the bottle* (* = see also step three)

the length of the tube should be 60% of the
bottle length.

step three:

we are almost done here! all you have left to do now, is
to get a lighter, make a tiny hole in the middle of the
bottle, and while the plastic is hot you gently insert the
tube (with the sharp side into the bottle ofcourse). now
get some metalic paper, or that paper you got inside
cigarette packs. make two or three levels of paper, and put
it on the top of the tube. now gently push the paper inside
the tube towards that little hole in the tube and stop when
you reach about 1cm. grab some sticky tape (or whatever it
called), and turn it around the tube where the paper still
outside. make sure no air can get through there, by sucking
the top of the bottle. suck the top really hard to be sure.
now, make a tiny hole in the middle of that paper you
pushed in. now you like, have a big hole with a little hole
towards the tube hole, and the big hole is on the top of
that tube. damnit, i cant understand what i just wrote. oh
nevrermind that.

final result should look like this (see drawing 1.B)

(DRAWING 1.B) this is how the abused bong should look like

____
| | <-- suck here
| |
/ \
/ \
/ \ /\
| a | / / <-- put the shit here
| fucking | / /
| bottle |/ / <-- the fucking tube
| / /
| / /
|-----/--/-| <-- the water level
| |/ |
|__________|

there. you have been made your first bong! how nice. now
fill your new bong with some water (1/4 of the bottle)
and find some usage for it.

conclusion:

feel free to write to borzom@hotmail.com and thank me for
this highly educational and useful tutorial. uhh, fuck you.
yeah. and i raped your dog. whatever.

oh, greets to adept, blutz, civax, cyber eagle, hex, kombat,
mali, mental trip, paso, rage, rakoon, rm, scorpios, sludge,
sticky baboon, trex, dark spirit, atomic, stain, nyc, ex,
all bong smokers out there, and the guys who spent
some amusing time with me at mov97- you know who you are (:
oh, and ofcourse the bezeq people that was there- bahaha :)

-----------------------------------------------------------

now some serious shit:

first of all- dont get frightened with this tutorial, it
just was a reason to kill some time while getting bored.
ok, this article should be in coders/fx news, so it should
contain something a bit serious, so there. first of all,
i have founded a group called zoltech industries. there are
no members yet except for me, so if you are a talented
musician / graphics artist / coder and looking for a group,
you know how to find me.

clax keyframing engine:

anyone remembers clax? i promised to release a new version,
but did not. the library itself is almost done, while
supporting new fileformats, alot of bugfixes, much cleaner
code, and new features like sort, backface culling, small
version, collision detection, spline morphing, lightning,
optimizations, better 3DS support, and ofcourse i ported
it to my zoltech C compiler. if anyone wants to get current
version of clax (before i officialy release it) email me
and you'll get the latest development version of clax
uuencoded by email. also, any help in development of clax
is greatly appreciated. i thought of writing a keyframing
tutorial, and dropped the idea, but if i will get one or
two replies from people that want me to write the tutorial,
i will. oh yeah, for those who havent figured it out yet,
clax homepage (not updated though) is http://clax.base.org
or http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Bay/6525.

zolzom emag:

i am planning to release a monthly e-mag, which is scene
and code oriented, but will contain alot more crap. if
you are interested in making some artwork or write an
article for the emag, see below how to contact me.

my board:

anyone remembers a board called necronomicon? no. well i am
planning to re-open the board, which will be scene, coding,
music, linux, emulation and oldwarez oriented. anyone who
is interested in helping reopening the board can contact me.
(board software will be used is modified daydream for linux)

zolzom 32bit development system:

in the past two months, i have been working on a 32bit
C compiler and development tools (extender, debugger, libs)
and i hope to complete this project by the end of april,
and release a free 32bit demo-oriented 32bit development
system including it own dos extender, symbolic debugger,
linker, assembler, ide and libraries including new version
of clax (my portable keyframing engine). so if anyone feels
like he wants to help me with this project, or want to be a
beta tester, feel free to email me, or post a message
(to borzom) on coders/fx bbs. (wanted: beta testers, help
with C++ compiler and optimizer, linux and win32 port,
and someone who ready to write or port IT/XM player)

for the curious -- i already have coded the dos extender,
which is DOS/4GW compatible and is capable of running under
VCPI / DPMI / XMS / RAW environments and is able to execute
LE / VE / COFF / DOS32 / ZE (ZE=internal compressed format)
executables. a tiny version of the extender is also
available, (size is only 2kb), and is usefull for 64kb
intros and such. the C compiler is nearly done and is fully
ANSI-C compatible. debugger, linker, ide, libraries and
other tools are not done yet, but already started. i am
planning to release first public beta version by the end
of July 1998, and it should include:

32bit optimizing C compiler, linker, profiler, disassembler,
assembler (8086-PentiumII including MMX), symbolic debugger,
ide, make utility, and dos extender. object files supported
are OS/2 32bit OMF and AOUT. linker is able to produce
BINARY, EXE, LE, COFF and ZE (see above) executable formats.

libraries: demo-oriented library including 3DS keyframer
(clax), ANSI-C standard library, protected mode / DPMI
interface library, and maybe more. again, if anyone wants
to take a look at the extender/compiler (the only things
that are finished right now) can email me and ask for it.

-----------------------------------------------------------

i have just read coders/fx news issue #28, and just thought
to write some replies about it. first of all, here is what
civax wrote in his article:

"Borzom is now nothing more then a mere visitor in our
scene. He sais he is bored with the scene and his time now
is dedicated to work. What work? Well, our dear Borzom is
now dealing with... Parties! Yea, Disco's and stuff...
Romours says he's also an organizer of ACID Parties in the
north of Israel. He hardly codes anymore and there are no
more releases of CLAX planed. CLAX hompage is
http://clax.base.org, if you still wanna have a look. You
can try and contact Borzom on the bbs as he still calls
from time to time."

well, it is not exactly right. first of all, *I HATE DISCO*,
damn, what made you think like that !? and what made you
think that i am nothing more than a mere visitor in our
scene? the fact i havent do almost nothing since Movement97
does not mean i quit the scene, i am continuing developing
clax, and have alot of other projects going on as you have
probably read above in my article. its just i woke up
thinking "WHAT THE FUCK?! I HAVE NO LIFE, AND I HAVE TO DO
SOMETHING ABOUT IT" (it took me about 4 years to realise :)
and so i did. i have full-time job as a technician in
computer store in carmiel (its where i live) while fixing
hardware, building computers and installing windows95 about
10 times per day (oh joy its so fun) ... oh, and ofcourse
i am planning to release a demo for the next israeli demo
party to be (this time with design :) and by no means i am
bored with the scene, i have learned alot and grew up with
the scene. it just slowly dies, atleast the israeli scene,
and almost no-one does nothing about it. but bored with the
scene? no way.

wake up coders: WE HAVE NO LIFE! do something about it ...
sitting all night in front of your keyboard is fine, but
not every fucking day for the past few years!

"Romours says he's also an organizer of ACID Parties in the
north of Israel" well well well, Civax, where did you hear
such "Rumours"? :) well, about "Rumours", it is quite
correct, but we need to have some fun in our life, arent we?
:) oh, special greets (again) to the guys that were with me
in mov97, you know who you are and you know what i mean,
especially blutz :) and Civax- i am a party organizer too
now, just kinda different parties :) maybe we will some day
organize a party together, who knows, it sounds interesting,
dont you think ?

"He hardly codes anymore and there are no more releases of
CLAX planed." Well, i work from 09:00 to 21:00, and have
about 2-3 hours of spare time at work to code. and i still
code at home, just not all night long as i used to :) about
clax, there WILL be new releases of clax, and it will be
even pretty soon.

"CLAX hompage is http://clax.base.org, if you still wanna
have a look." well thats right, and the page is not updated
since i released that prerelease of clax (a few months
already), but you can always have a look.

in addition i would like to reply about the "Linux: For and
Against" article also published in coders/fx news issue #28
By fULGORE. i have used linux since 1994 on my 386SX16 with
4MB and still using it on my P133/48MB now. i am using it
for coding, for fun, for internet, and just about anything.
my next demo (to be released someday) will ofcourse support
Linux platform including console and X11. anyone who wishes
to get started with Linux coding and wants some help, can
e-mail me. also, if you want clax examples for linux (not
released) ask me and i will e-mail it to you.

as Civax wrote: "As much as Linux is a FREE and realy
advance OS, which comes with sources and everything - it is
totaly not user friendly." Civax - YOU ARE COMPLETLY WRONG.
let me give you an example: for a computer newbie, it is
MUCH easier ofcourse to use point-and-click GUI (Windows95
for example), and ofcourse much faster (for him). but take
a look for example at experienced coder. it is much faster
for him to type some words on his keyboard than using
point-and-click interface. and ofcourse, you have much more
control, so 'user-friendly' is relative to the user. Linux
is one of few operation systems that YOU have FULL control
over it.

-----------------------------------------------------------

ok... anyone remembers israpack? it was a collection of
source codes by some israeli sceners: Adept, Civax, Kombat
and me ofcourse :) well i just thought of releasing a
second 'israpack'. if anyone is interested in contributing
some of his sources and / or writing some usefull tutorial,
email me.

err.... just a small comment about the bong tutorial: the
easiest and the best way is to buy one :)
-----------------------------------------------------------

uhh.. here goes some "updates" to the article :) i wanted
to release this article for about 2 weeks now but didn't
have the time for that. and lots of things changed during
those two weeks, first i quit my fucking job, whee! oh, and
i have decided to write a keyframing tutorial afterall, so
there. also, i did cut my fucking hair, yea thats right...

-----------------------------------------------------------

** AND NOW FOR SOME ADVERTISEMENTS ***

coming soon (in the article below): the true and uncensored
version of the famous story 'Little Red Bra'. will grandma
rape the big bad wolf? will Red Bra find batteries for her
brand new "Super Vibe 2000" ? all that and more, in this
article below.

** BE THE FIRST TO ANSWER CORRECTLY, AND WIN A PRIZE! **

oh and here is a "riddle" for you readers: the first person
that will reply with a correct answer, will get a free
"Apple" at the next israeli party! :) hehe i hope you know
what i mean. and here is the riddle: find out how many
spelling mistakes Civax has in his comment about me (see
above). answers can be sent by email, or can be posted to
'Borzom' on coders/fx bbs.

-----------------------------------------------------------

now a little quiz for you. (i am writing this shit at my
work while getting bored to death, so please forgive me)
all statistics will be (hopefully) published in the next
issue of coders/fx news. send all answers to my email or

ok kids, now its time for a little story... and its called
"Little Red Bra"

Once upon a time, somewhere in orgy forest, there live a
little girl. little Red Bra was her name. she had breasts
of steel and a melting vagina. right after she had wild sex
with her dad, her grandma called up and cried saying that
grandpa is sick and won't fuck her. so little Red Bra's
mother gave her a vibrator "Super Vibe 2000" to take to
grandma's house at the other side of the orgy forest. the
time was late, so little Red Bra decided to sleep and visit
her grandma in the morning. so she went to bed, but could
not sleep for some reason, and so she decided to try out
the "Super Vibe 2000" vibrator. the next morning, little
Red Bra went to grandma's house, she walked and walked,
and suddenly she meets noone other than Wolfy- well known
horny wolf that lived in the forest, who was really hot
on little Red Bra. so he grabbed and raped her, and licked,
sucked, and fucked every part of her body. after that, he
found out from her to where she is going, so he ran through
all the shortcuts to grandma's house. when he got there he
let himself in, but grandma noticed someone got in her
house and thought it was a robber, so she called 911-PIGS.
Wolfy came into her room, and moment before he was going to
rape grandma, he hears a doorbell. suddenly, the door opens
and terrorists who came late (by 50 years) to grandma's
wedding enters grandma's house and starts a wild orgy party
with grandma. Wolfy goes off with grandpa, which was not
sick but was gay. little Red Bra enters grandma's house and
sees a big wild orgy party going on. she gives "Super Vibe
2000" to grandma, and joins the wild orgy with the
terrorists. grandma, who dreamed about this hitech vibrator
is trying to turn it on, but no luck- the batteries's life
came to an end, as they worked all night without a break.
grandma finds some strange batteries, turns it on and gets
thrown to another planet.
... and they still live in happiness- grandpa got his dick
cut and married Wolfy, grandma became a billioner after she
sold the "Super Vibe 2000" to some alien race, and little
Red Bra and the terrorists still having a wild orgy in
grandma's house. where are the police pigs you ask? they
were eaten by cannibals in the orgy forest.

TO BE CONTINUED ...

Voices
by SiK
June 21, 1998
-------------

"I think it all started when I was 6 years old. Yeah..."
Jenny lied on the leather sofa. It was soft and warm. The wooden arms
shined, showing the generous lacquer coating.
"Yeah," she smiled, "my father bought me my first computer. It was a
slow, heavy machine. I fell in love instantly. At first it was strictly
games, you know."
She moved in the sofa, placed herself in a more comfortable position,
putting her left hand on the wooden arm of the sofa.
"It was fun, yeah, but it was doomed to end sometime, you know, so
after the games period, came the programming. I was about 14 years
old. It took me about... Umm... 6 months to learn Pascal, then came C,
Java, Assembly, all the Visuals, etc. etc. Still, I didn't feel that
programming was, like, my calling, or whatever... So I tried music."
Jenny flipped to the other side of the sofa, crossed her hands over
her head, placed her legs on the second arm. She breathed deeply, then
sighed. Her red hair was tied in a braid, making her look younger than
she really was. Tiny freckles covered the sides of her small nose. Her
eyes were green, amazing, almost hypnotizing, as if she could control a
man just by looking him, straight in the eyes.
"That period lasted for about one year. I was 16 then... We
upgraded the computer, bought a better sound-card, a bigger hard-drive,
more memory and... A modem..."
She stopped for a while, raised her legs together, placed them on top
of the sofa. She slid her back a bit to the right, placed her arms below
her chest. Her head was still lying on the arm of the sofa. This somehow
careless position revealed a thin, curved figure, dressed in a small,
white shirt and short jeans. White and blue strands were coming out of
the jeans, as if someone had cut the pants with a pair of blunt
scissors.
"Can you imagine yourself what has become of me when I discovered the
world of the baud?" She laughed. "Such a strange phrase..." Then her
expression turned serious, almost sad. "But obviously you can't. You're
one of THEM."
She stared at the ceiling, the corners of the room, the window above
the right arm of the sofa. It was morning. Clear blue skies were stained
with small, white clouds. Their blurry contour mixed with the skies in a
gradient motion - light pulls of white color over a blue fabric. The
green shades of the flourishing gardens below were disturbed abruptly by
the dark, lifeless colors of the city.
"Suddenly, the small bubble of life that used to surround me was
broken. Its boundaries were thrown away, far away, and I have found the
reason I bought a computer. I experienced a new feeling, there was
nothing quite like it. Talking with people you have never seen, heard of
or knew existed, only unlocked the door to what I saw later. It caught
me inside it, and I didn't want to break out. My sleeping hours became
shorter, I started 'trading' information... Then came the hacking."
Jenny lowered her eyes, stared at the wall. A picture of Norway
countryside. So peaceful... Unlike her. She had so many secrets,
reasons, but no one could ever understand them. Never... She lowered her
feet to the floor, pushed herself to a sitting position in the middle of
the sofa, leaned her back a bit forward, placed her hands crossed on her
waists.
"So I hacked to the CIA, the Pentagon, the FBI, the NASA missile
projects, several banks and many more. And I have changed things, added
things, I notified the operators of the faults in their protection
systems. But no one noticed THAT, all they cared was that I hacked into
their systems... And I ask you, what is my crime? How can I defy my
nature, my curiosity? My crime is not of breaking into protected
systems! My crime is of being smart, or perhaps outsmarting someone,
someone that is unable to admit his own flaws and mistakes."
"You seek the reason to the hacking phenomenon. You say - 'what is the
difference between hacking to computer systems and breaking and
entering?' You think you have found the reason, with all your
psychological terms and behavior researches, but you are ignoring the
real reason - it is society that is encouraging us to hack! Society,
with its limitations and secrets, ranks and positions, is closing in on
us, and the time will come that society will cave in on the human race.
Then we will see that society and religion are the worst creations of
mankind, but it will be too late. We have brought on ourselves the end.
It is not far away, but it is getting near us in giant footsteps. All we
want is to break the boundaries, crack the shell that man has put on
himself, go beyond the human sight and mind, to 'see' through the
racism, the hatred and the prejudices and to unite ourselves, to form a
single language for all... But something is in the way."
"You are in the way. The education that you implement on us from our
infancy years is printed deeply in our minds. Your bigoted points of
view are what we carry along in our road, and it takes great effort to
relieve ourselves from them. Some, who cannot break free, pass these
deformed ways on to their offsprings, and the circle can never be
broken. We have done this to ourselves, and I doubt it if the time will
come when we'll be pure again... As we were meant to be."
Jenny pressed her head against her arms. Small tears fell to her
cheeks, making a thin, shiny path of water across her face. She breathed
deeply, tried to calm herself down, then sighed quietly.
The housemaid looked at her. "Please, miss, no cry. Doctor is out, he
be back in just a moment." She said in a heavy italian accent.
"That's... That's OK... I'm fine..." Jenny said.

"Hello again, Jenny, I'm sorry I kept you waiting. I had a problem
with a patient outside. OK, let's talk, Jenny. Now, can you tell me why
did you break into all these systems?"
Jenny inhaled, then spoke the words in a slow, monotonous voice. "Yes.
I broke into these systems just to impress my friends. I was young, I
didn't have many friends and I wanted attention."
"Very good," said the psychologist, "you are making progress. I will
recommend the next meeting that the state will reduce your sentence.
Now, let's go on to the next subject. How are..."
Jenny heard the doctor's voice fading. Screams of agony were beginning
to resonance in her mind, were the doctor's words were before. All she
could hear were the screamings - "Jenny!", "JENNY!". She knew that the
doctor was asking her questions and that she was answering, but her
consciousness was not focused. Instead, it scanned many places, people,
systems, looking for faults, cracks, mistakes. She was alone, no one
could hear what she must say. She knew that the doctor will arrange her
release from this place, it's just a matter of... Time. But she also
knew that the voices will stay, and that she would continue doing what
she is supposed to do.
Hacking.

Some computer jokes from the Internet
-------------------------------------

Top 10 reasons compilers must be female
---------------------------------------

1. Picky, picky, picky.
2. They hear what you say, but not what you mean.
3. Beauty is only shell deep.
4. When you ask what's wrong, they say "nothing".
5. Can produce incorrect results with alarming speed.

7. Smalltalk is important.
8. You do the same thing for years, and suddenly it's wrong.
9. They make you take the garbage out.
10. Miss a period and they go wild

2. A better model is always just around the corner.
3. They look nice and shiny until you bring them home.

Ten Things That Would Be Different if Microsoft
Started Building Cars
-----------------------------------------------

1) A particular model year of car wouldn't be available until after that
year instead of before it.

2) Every time they repainted the lines on the road, you'd have to buy a new
car.

3) Occasionally your car would just die for no reason, and you'd have to
restart it. For some strange reason, you'd just accept this.

4) You could only have one person in the car at a time, unless you bought a
Car 95 or a Car NT. But then you'd have to buy more seats.

5) Sun Motorsystems would make a car that was powered by the sun, twice as
reliable, and five times as fast - but it would only run on 5% of the
roads.

6) The oil, engine, gas and alternator warning lights would be replaced with
a single "General Car Fault" warning light.

7) People would get excited about the "new" features in Microsoft Cars,
forgetting completely that they have been available in other cars for
years.

8) We'd all have to switch to Microsoft Gas.

9) The U.S. Government would be _getting_ subsidies from an automaker,
instead of giving them.

10) New seats would force everyone to have the same size butt.

ÍÍ What is [TEN] ÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍ[08]ÍÍ

What is [TEN] ?
by Programmer / UniVerse
---------------------------

Here is the full official information on TEN, The Emags Network, I've
got on the email. As CFX News joined this promissing project I thought
it will be appropriate to bring you, guys, the info on the network. It
is also my duty as stated in the text, by the way... :) Well, Here it
goes:

--------------------------------------------------------------
[TEN] Hello! You're reading the E-Mag Network info file!

If you are editor of your country's local e-mag, and you are
interested in fast growing of it, and you are ready to be a
part of a bigger e-mag project - you must join us, The E-mag
Network [TEN]. What is TEN? TEN is the union of main editors
from local e-mags around the world, who are exchanging articles
there, taking away new articles to use in their local e-mags,
and placing articles for each other mags.
How it works? Easy! For now we have a mailing list to
discuss everything, and to exchange articles. Once someone
from your country writes an interesting article you put it
here and all the world will read this article after it! That
sounds great, doesn't it? You put the articles from your e-mag
to our network, and we give you articles from our network for
your e-mag!
We have a big project for now. The goal of it - just to
unite editors here. After this, we will start a bigger and
better project, we will do an international e-mag, where all
articles around the world will be placed, and you take your
own honour place in our editors bunch! Do you think, that
nobody will see you, if you will not be standalone editor?
Every issue of our e-mag will have a standalone editor. E.g.
for the first issue the main editor will be Progammer of AOG,
for the second issue - Adok. And so on, so everyone can
realize all what he wants, but in the better place!

And don't forget the authors, which write to you!!! All
world will see their articles, if you join the e-mag network!
So, if you are ready, read the FAQ carefully and join our
project!

The e-mags which are in the project now:
name / country/ies / status / language(s)
Armor of Gods / Russia / local / Russian, English
Hugi / Germany / international / English, German
* Imphobia / Belgium / international / English
Defcon / France / local / French, English
Total Disaster / Poland / local / Polish
Pain / Switzerland / local / English
Restless / USA, Australia / international / English
CFX News / Israel / local / English

FAQ part.

Q. What the hell is this mailinglist?
A. It's the first part of creating a big world e-mag, by
uniting editors from lots of countries.

Q. What I will get for this?
A. You will get fresh articles for your e-mag in the first
part of project and you will participate in a big e-mag in the
second part of project.

Q. What is the 'FIRST PART OF PROJECT'?
A. It's... ghm... It's uniting of some editors from several
e-mags around the world.

Q. How I can get fresh articles from here?
A. Other editors put fresh articles from their e-mags to this
network, and you can take and use them in exchange of some
fresh articles from your e-mag.

Q. But wait! All e-mags in this network will be the same!
A. No, they will not. Editors can select some articles, from
many, and all e-mags will be different. Also it depends on
'local' part of e-mags (information which is actual only of
interest to your country).

Q. Can I do a e-mag using only this network!?
A. No, you can't. This network is only addition for your
e-mag, it will help you to become more popular, but we can't
do all the work for you. But you can expect help from us.

Q. Who are you?
A. We are you :) We are the union of some local e-mags around
the world.

Q. What must I do to get articles?
A. The only thing you must do - is to put some articles in
English into the network, and do it regulary.

Q. Articles in the network can be only in English? My e-mag is
in Finnish, what must I do?
A. Yes, there must be only English articles. We hope it's not
too hard for you to translate some articles to English?

Q. Must I do something else, if I use information from this
place?
A. Yes. All you must to is to add a little remark to those
articles that you got them from TEN and add this advertising
file to your e-mag. :)

Q. You said that this is the 'FIRST PART OF PROJECT', what's
about the SECOND?
A. The second part of the project will be actual, when this
network will grow and will work OK. The second part is to
merge all the e-mags into one big e-mag, filled with articles
from around the world and so on. It must be great! By the way,
the second part is the main one.

Q. It seems like OTHERS will use articles by MY authors? What
about copyrights and other legal stuff?
A. Authors' names will be the same in all e-mags and
translations. But you must tell the authors, that their
articles can become world known. :)

Q. Is there a minimum number of articles I should send to the
list?
A. No, there is no minimum number defined, but you must send
any. But look - if you have a big e-mag with 30 article every
in every issue, it will not be good if you will send only two
articles to the network, right? So, the number of articles
depends on your e-mag's size.

Q. What will you do, if I use the network articles without
permisson, e.g. without sending articles to the network?
A. It's so simple... We will unsubscribe you from the network.

Q. Will you check all e-mags with the articles from the
network?
A. Yes, we will check e-mags.

Q. This sounds great! How can I join?
A. Easy! Just send a mail to the founder of the project, to
unv@chat.ru, and specify, who you are, and what e-mag you
present.

[TEN] Thank you for reading!

## Assembly'98: Over 1000 tickets sold in advance during the first week
and a half. According to Abyss / FC it is probably the highest amount
of advance ticket sales ever in any demo party and IS the highest in
Assembly history. The organizers expect 500 more tickets to be sold
in advance. Still, they announced, there will be planty left at the
door. Seems this year ASSEMBLY is going to be the crowedest...

ÍÍ New Files Summary - Special choices ÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍ[14]Í

Civax Choices
ÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍ

Pain Diskmag - Pain is basicly a local swiss diskmag with a great
text-mode interface and usually great articles too.
I advise you to take the new one (06/98) and have a
look. Its most certenly the most promissing mag in
the scene at the moment.
[PAIN0698.ZIP (256k) Text: Diskmags]

Clone meets Clone - This IS the best 64kb intro I've seen in a long time.
[by ACME & Fudge] New effects, great music that fits the design, and
a realy clean look makes this 64kb a classic, if you
asks me. Don't dare to miss it.
[ACME_CMC.ZIP (65k) Party: TakeOver98: Misc]

NeviZaam - NeviZaam (Prophet of rage in hebrew) maybe doesn't
[by Dark Spirit / fits my musical taste but its defenetly a great work
Immortals & TTOM] By our own Dark Spirit. It comes as an MP3 (what, no
more tracks releases, darki?) and contains lyrics and
text. A proffesional work.
[NEVIZAAM.ZIP (3,579k) Support: TTOM]

Sparks - 2nd place demo and a realy good one comming from the
[by ??] LPT2 party. It features a new effect called sparks and
is realy fun to watch.
[SPARKS.ZIP (1,989k) Demos: 1998]

Squeezed - See Protopad Choises. Liked it thought I think it was
a bit short. They could have made it better.
[N-B_SQZD.ZIP (4,199k) Demos: 1998]

Protopad Choices
ÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍ

Fountain of Signs - This .MOD file is one of the best .MODs I ever
(by Unreal) heard. It's really amazing what Unreal managed to do
in this limited format. And the music is also great.
Traxx in Space (a HUGE module archive on the Net)
got a kick out of it too, as I recall.
[FOUNTAIN.ZIP (455K) MUSIC: Modules (MOD)]

RegClean - This utility is supposed to clean all of your unused
(Microsoft Corp.) Win95 registry entries. Although it doesn't clean
ALL of them, it does get most of them. You'd be
amazed how much garbage is clogging your registry.
It saves all changes in an undo .REG file you can
easily integrate back into your registry, so it's
safe. This one is a must for all Win95 users.
[REGCLEAN.ZIP (983K) GEN: General Utils]

Squeezed - A Well coded demo. Won the LTP2 democompo in France.
(Nomad & Bomb) It has two parts, the first of which is weak. But
the 2nd features an amzaing subway scene, running on
a neat 3D engine, which ran pretty fast in DirectX
fullscreen mode (the demo has 2 executables: one for
Win95 and one for DOS).
[N-B_SQZD.ZIP (4199K) DEMOS: 1998]

Anger - A great demo. It is very long, and contains many new
(Eastgate) effects, and common effects used in a new way. It is
a very original demo, with appropriate music and
graphics and good code. It has the look and feel of
a video clip. Had it been more consistent, this demo
could have been a second 303. Although it's not,
Anger is still a great demo to have in your
collection. It also won yalp'98 democompo.
[EG8ANGER.ZIP (2015K)) DEMOS: 1998]
