Saxonia Issue 01 Part 007
*** SAXONIA - A NEW MAG IN A DESERTED SCENE? ***
By Zerox/Gods
Rumrunner of Void asked me if I could write a few lines for his new
magazine called Saxonia. He wanted to know my expectations towards
this new mag.
Before you often read in the editorials of new mags: "Another new
mag - oh no! But this mag is very different from the others".
Well, in those days there were really a big jungle of diskmags.
Infact there were so many that it was very difficult to get an
oversight over all of those mags. Nowadays the situation is quite
different though.
The last 5 years or so, I would dare to say that the mag scene
have been rather bad. Surely we've seen some mags, or more spesific,
some issues of certain mags that have had high quality. But most mags
have been bad compared to previous mags, and there have also been
very few mags released.
Today I guess the only more or less regular magreleases left are the
EuroChart and Jurassic Pack. In addition to that, perhaps ShowTime
could be described as somewhat alive? The last edition of D.I.S.C.
will be issue 14. Devotion issue 3 never got released afterall. Then
we also have the Polish mags Taboo and Excess.
So what do I expect of Saxonia? First of all, I would like to welcome
a new mag into the scene in 2003! It's quite a surprise that any new
mag at all are being launched now. After all, all the other mags in
the present scene have been born ages ago, like the EuroChart back
in 1989, D.I.S.C. back in 1990 and Jurassic Pack back in 1995 to
mention some.
When it comes to Saxonia, I think the main contents will be written
by the creators in Void. I'm not only talking about the first issue,
but it's simply not very likely that there will be lots of various
editors that deliver many high quality contributions for each new
issue. The reason? Well, there simply aren't many editors left
these days. And the ones left are more or less busy with their own
mag projects. Secondly, the sceners are rather indifferent nowadays.
Not many people are giving any response to other sceners productions,
nor actively supporting them. But in the case of Saxonia, I hope
I'm wrong. I also hope this new mag will be a fresh breath into the
current scene. I hope new editors will come forward and support it,
and that new ideas of how to make a mag will appear.
As for the articles, I hope this new mag will concentrate on
pure scene articles; news-based articles, research-articles, and
generally informative articles. If not, it's kind of certain that
you've already read it elsewhere as the other mags have covered most
discussions before.
Nevertheless, I'm quite curious about this new mag and I'm really
looking forward to the first issue. I'm also sure that the mag will
get better and better for each issue released; both content wise and
code-wise that is. The most important aspect of a mag is always the
articles though, so I'm eager to read the work of new writers. I hope
this new mag will surprise us all, and actually survive for a long
time.
In any case, the best of luck to the creators of this new mag!
