SimEarth: The Living Planet
Finally, more information about SimEarth. The Mac version looked
very nice. This is similar to SimCity, other than the fact that you
control ALL aspects of Gaia, the earth. Options include changing oceans,
cities, heat, rainfall, winds, seaflow, seaheat, events.. etc, and also
adding life forms such as fish, insects, dinosaur, avian, mammal.. etc.
Overall, the interface looked nice, and hopefully the fonts will look as
good as the ones on the Mac II version. It retails 69.95 for the Mac
version, but nothing is heard about the IBM version. Maxis hopes to
release the IBM version by Christmas, but that is doubtful, since the
official release date of this issue is just a few days before Christmas,
and unless they have already completed the game, it is impossible that it
would be released in time for the holiday rush.
RPG Dept.
SSI's latest effort, Eye Of The Beholder, may be already shipping.
This is their new Legend series, and it looks much nicer than all the rest.
The interface is basically similar to Dungeon Master(Releasing Soon), but
with better graphics(The comparison is made with the Amiga version).
It seems to be in real time just like Dungeon Master, but not much detail.
Space Quest IV rumors have been going around for months, and it is still
not shipped. This new episode will have scrolling graphics at some point
of the game, and the graphics(preview) looked good. MegaTraveller II has
a release date sometime in April of 1991.
Simulations Dept.
Seems like not many simulations are coming on time either.
Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe looked good with the demo.
B-52 Stratofortress also is going to be released soon. Wings will
not be released until early 1991, but it should look pretty nice.
Rumors going? Yes, Wing Commander II.. Is it real? Won't ever know.
Misc. Dept.
Arcade Fever is a Dragon Lord similar game, from Cinemaware.
Lords Of the Rising Sun also is coming from Cinemaware, but knowing
Cinemaware's reputation, it is probably going to be very late(As in the
case of Death Bringer, in which it NEVER passed the planning stage because
of their effort to develop CD games for the TurboGrafx-16, what I would call
a piece of useless junk.)
