Reply to "Left out of the scene" by Strife/Apathy

First, let me say that I didn't know about the Solskogen party either,
the first time I heard of it was in the above mentioned article. So it
seems that Strife is not the only one who feels left out here.

Just like Strife, I too got most of my information through swapping.
I joined the scene first in 1999, and even though this is fairly recent,
when I started swapping, I got at least one or two letters each week,
if we take the median of, let's say a couple of months. Also, I got a lot
of information from the former scener/swapper Punisher, which moved to
the same city as I live in about 1998. He had a lot of contacts and always
knew what was to come. But in the last (long) period of time, I have had
serious troubles getting to know what to look for. Most swapping seems to
be dead (read my article about swapping elsewhere in this mag) and what
happened to Punisher? I have no idea, but I haven't heard from him since
he moved to Bergen some years ago.

So what sources do I have left? Well, of course I can take a look at
the wellknown websites, looking for information there. But I think that
far from all you want to know is listed there. Zerox/Gods was the one
who informed me about the Kindergarden party, I got in touch with him
when requesting some articles for the first issue of this mag. I would
not have thought about this party if it wasn't for him.

Ofcourse, like Strife suggests, a website where people can send in
messages and the likes would be a solution. I guess that it would work
out more of less like the messageboxes did in the pre-internet years, a
time that seems to have had better communication even though it was more
costly and timeconsuming to stay in touch back then. Everybody must
remember all the stampfaking articles and articles discussing blueboxing
and the likes. Perhaps we have gotten a bit lazy?

Anyway, back to the main point, even though a website like
[2 www.scenenews.org[0 could be a possible solution, this requires people
to actually send in the news, and to me, it seems that most people don't
bother anymore. Sadly enough, there seems to be only a few dedicated
people left in the scene. Most others just sit around waiting for others
to make the first move. And if this happened, the website would not be
anything.

But let's also take a look at this topic from another point of view.
This also regards newcomers, which, believe it or not, still exists.
Perhaps all of us who have been interested in the scene for some time,
and/or involved in the scene have gotten to know sources for what we
want/need, like mags and so on. Combine this with the general impression
that no new people want to join the scene, why should anybody try to tell
where you can get the latest Jurassic Pack, Eurochart or Saxonia for that
matter? This is a dangerous situation, we should all try to think about
the fact that there are others than those heavily involved in the scene
who are interested in what we do, and perhaps they will want to join in
later on, if they just get some motivation. It's far from motivating when
you don't get to know about what happens. Every group and partyarranger
should think about that, and try to make it easy, or at least easier to
get to know what's up. Marketing sounds too commercial for the scene in
my opinion, but we at least need to let people know that we are still
around.
