Southern California Distribution Issue 01 Part 02
Continuous Edge Graphics chipset(CEG)
The new chipset from Edsun Labs and Analog Devices will boost
a standard VGA setup to a degree of photorealistic quality. The
chip blends the 256 color palette to 700,000+ shades, and smoothens
the jagged edges in 320x200 mode to make it look as if it was 1024x768.
The chip will also work with ordinary VGA monitors, so no additional
upgrades. It'll require drivers, and only two are available, but more
are on their way. The chipset will increase the cost by roughly 300
bucks, which should drop to about 150 or so at street/pirate prices.
The chipset itself only costs the manufacturer 30 bucks, though.
An additional 10% of speed increase will also help balacing out the
price increase. This chip should bring "New Hopes" for the slow-as-hell
VGA..
