Syquest 44 meg drive mechanism - SCSI interface -no case or power
supply - $100.00 I have used this drive with both Atari ST & MS Dos
computers mainly for backup of my main hard drives. It has been very
reliable and works fine with any computer that can support SCSI. I have
moved on to the 105 meg. Syquest, so I need to sell this one.
7 Syquest 44 meg cartridges - $ 35.00 each - again these are all very
reliable - no bad sectors reported - low usage because the were used for
backups and sat on the shelf most of the time!
I will need to have a buyer for the drive mechanism before I can let
all the cartridges go separatly.

All-in-One Cable for Atari Jaguar Game Machine
Recently, while I was looking for a Composite cable for my newly
purchased Jaguar, I contacted my local Atari dealer, Don Bahr, at
Compuseller West in St. Charles, Il. and found out Don was developing a
multiple cable which will have all of the following capabilities:
1) Composite cable (left/right audio + video)
2) S-Video connector
3) Separate Chroma/Luminence Composite
4) RGB cable for use on ST Color Monitors
According to Don, This Jaguar cable will allow one to use the Jag on
virtually any setup, and consists of a circuit board with a total of (5)
RCA jacks (three video, two audio) which plugs into the slot on the back of
the Jag. Don said he has even had this cable hooked up to three different
types of monitors running simultaneously!
Circuit boards are currently being completed and should be available
in 10 to 14 days. The price will be around $49.00 retail, and based on
individual Jag cables running in cost around $25.00 each, this sounds like
a good alternative to anyone who may wish to have the capabilities this
cable will afford.

The STacy's modern styling and slim black case makes it fit right in
with your other MIDI instruments. And the STacy only weights 15 pounds.
This ST compatible portable computer with One (1) megabyte of RAM and
can be upgraded to 4 megabytes... Intergrated 3.5" disk drive, 20 megabyte
hard drive, back-lit LCD display, full sized keyboard, and intergrated
trackball to replace the mouse, or flick a switch and use your favorite
mouse (The Black/Black Beetle Mouse)
Atari has done a magnificent job with the STacy's keyboard. The key
spacing and fell is as good as the best IBM keyboard you can find. There's
a nice positive over-center feel and solid rebound that lets you know when
you have keyed the a character.
The keypad is small and appears awkward, but the keys are contoured
along their width-cupped-to avoid double hits. Once you get a feel for the
Keypad you won't miss a key.
Atari has included a unique golf-ball-sized trackball with two buttons
above it on the right side of the keyboard. I have notice now that most
laptops and notebooks now come with a trackball, Makes you think don't
it... As I have said before, you can plug a mouse into the STacy if you
like.
The STacy has a backlit supertwist LCD screen, meaning that the
display is visible with no external light and retains good contrast in
almost any lighting situation. It mimics the ST monochrome screen and has
a full 640-by- 400 pixels in 5 3/4-inch-by-9-inch display. You can plug
either a color monitor (which shuts down the STacy's own Monitor) or a
Monochrome which allows both monitors to display at the same time. Great
for showing demos'
The STacy comes with built-in MIDI in/out ports, in addition to
printer, modem, floppy drive, hard disk (DMA), mouse and joystick ports.
The STacy is based on the energy-saving CMOS Motorola 68C000 micro-
processor, running at 8 MHz and if that isn't fast enough you can always
install either ICD's AdSpeed or Fast Tech's Turbo 25 to really speed things
up.
What does this STacy come with? Well, I will toss in a STacy
Carrying Case and FREE Shipping. As I said, this is a recycled STacy
looking for a good home, it has been tested by us, and has a clean bill of
health.

---------------
The SM147 is a 14" monochrome monitor which was released by Atari in
1991 to replace the SM124 12" monitor. The SM147 has been officially
discontinued by Atari, and has been generally unavailable for months!
These will be available for a limited time only. If you need to replace a
broken monitor or have been looking to upgrade, NOW is the time to call.

While the SM147 has no internal speaker, it is a natural for
musicians, especially those working with MIDI sequencers and scoring
programs on the ST. Color monitors simply cannot produce the level of
detail required to edit music. And the 14" diagonal screen of the SM147 is
easy on the eyes. It has a clear white - tinted slightly blueish green for
comfort - display with high contrast. You won't regret moving to the
SM147.
So now, here in March of 1994, we suggest that you seriously consider
your need for a monochrome monitor. Simply map it out. If an Atari
monochrome monitor is something you have been planning to purchase or would
like to purchase within the next year, DO IT NOW! These monitors have sold
out very quickly in the past and are sure to do it again. Don't be left

We've nattered about Geneva, we've waited for Geneva, we've hailed
Geneva. Well... it's here now...and our very own Dan Dreibelbis is going
to tell us all about it! Dan is a long time TAF member who has contributed
a great deal to the Club. As a matter of fact, his review of Geneva in
last month's Phoenix appears to have been one of the most widely read (and
well received!) reviews in recent years. Dan will be doing a complete
run-through of all the important (and some lesser known!) features, of this
impressive multi-tasking Operating System.
THEN we're gonna have a raffle. YES! I LOVE RAFFLES! EXCEPT
EXECUTIVE MEMBERS CAN'T WIN. Oh well, I'll buy the tickets for my
girlfriend... Anyhow, Compuworld and Replay have contributed three great
prizes and raffle tickets are only a buck.
AND THEN... Rob Wilson is going to demo BSTAT. BSTAT is one of those
statistical analysis-graphing-plotting-calculating type programs all of us
avoid like the plague... but have to tackle anyway, at some point in the
course of using our Atari computers. Rob is the author of the program (and
it's a GOOD one)! He is going to do a terrific job of showing everyone how
to use the software (which is available from the TAF Library by the way).
Like Geneva, this is a 'must-see' demo. BSTAT and Geneva are neither
mystical or difficult to use... and Dan and Rob will prove it!
TAF demos keep getting better and better... especially with our
improved projection tablet display.
Also at this meeting: Errol Knapp and the new Steering Committee will
have a table set up - for the first time - in order to conduct a membership
Poll. Stop by and give him and his minions a piece of your mind - or just
some opinions and information, if you prefer - about TAF, your computing
needs, etc.
All TAF Members are always welcome. Non-members are welcome too,
with the payment of a $ 2.00 admission at the door. Anyone with a new
membership application or a renewal can bring their form and fee to the
meeting, too. Dave Goad will be happy to issue your new card at the door!

Alex, your 520 might bring as much as $100.00. Color monitors are
actually selling in the $100.00-$150.00 range, sometimes a bit less. On
the 1040, since it's so incomplete, you'd likely have to sell for parts.

OK, Al, I admit that the prices I quoted were more in the range of
what I can get for them than in the range of what Alex can expect. Can't
say I've seen _any_ $60.00 color monitors around these parts, though; that
would be a good price for a mono one here. Prices vary around the country.
Out in CA where there is a veritable glut of used systems, you can get a
very attractive deal. Here, a 520 with color monitor could sell for as
much as $300.00.

John, I really have gotten those prices in my area -- and recently.
I've paid similar prices not too long ago myself. We haven't had a dealer
here since 1985 (we bought our first ST from him), and the 60-odd STs
around are largely still in use, so used machines are rare to come by. It
depends very much where you are, how many machines were sold in the area,
and how many are still used by the original owners.
In any case, I was suggesting to Alex a _range_, and I see that range

I have used this drive with both Atari ST & MS Dos computers mainly
for backup of my main hard drives. It has been very reliable and works
fine with any computer that can support SCSI. I have moved on to the 105
meg. Syquest, so I need to sell this one.
7 Syquest 44 meg cartridges - $ 35.00 each - again these are all very
reliable - no bad sectors reported - low usage because the were used for
backups and sat on the shelf most of the time!

I used this drive with a home-grown ST setup (ICD card) for a few
years without a single problem. Moved it to a Mac and used it another year
without a problem, but I out-grew it (and bought another Quantum). You get
the drive and a factory technical document. (I also have Mac IIci mounting
hardware, cables, and software but will keep them unless someone has a good
reason to buy them.)
Send email if you're interested in these items as I don't frequent
this topic too often. I've done business via GEnie before and can provide
names of a few folks if you'd like (even the fellow who received the broken
ST color monitor - I made good on it right away.) I try to get on GEnie

My drive now has X-oR, Cubase Audio Falcon, MIDI Quest, Geneva,
Diamond Edge/Back, STalker, Aladdin and various utilities.... If it isn't
for work - it's GONE! Guess what?? I have finished a few songs this week
already because I don't screw around with everything (one of my favourite
things!). I bailed STraight FAX because I hated the way viewing worked,
but otherwise it is excellent (I admired the interface very much). If I
had a faster printer I would have kept it. Besides, my IBM Contemptable
had to have something to do (it can't beat the Falcon for MIDI!). I have
gotten a windfall of work since my 'for sale' panic post (Tiny Toons
Adventures dialog recording - hey, it's a gig...). I will be able to keep
the Falcon! Happy Happy, Joy Joy!

This is on a different subject, but I thought Atari folk may be
interested. I wrote Supra to ask if the had an Atari 'pack' for the Supra
144LC modem I bought last month. I wanted to trade my IBM package
(software) in far Atari stuff. Here is how Patrick Moore of Supra
responded in a letter: -----
There has been no Atari development since 1991 so no, we do not have
an Atari 144LC package.

Not only is he incorrect, but his tone is a little snitty. I guess
he is unaware of the Falcon, STraight FAX, etc.. He _may_ mean no Atari
developement by Supra, but I don't think so... Maybe someone at Atari can
set them straight!

Nathan - Very strange. I went to my file drawer where I archived all
my old ST mags and there was STart 88/89/90, full sets except that I had
two October 90 and two November 90 and no Sept. So I went to my Start
disks, same thing. extras and none. I wonder what happened back in 90.
Are you sure they published a Sept. issue? Maybe I didn't get mine and
they sent me extras to make up. Very courious.

While looking through my copies of Start I noticed a strange quirk.
There is no Sept. 1990 issue. There _is_ a Sept. 1990 disk though. There
is _not_ a Nov. 1990 disk. It would appear that the Oct issue is actually
a Sept./Oct issue because the programs in that issue match the disk labeled
Sept 1990. In any case, If can tell me what programs or articles appeared
in the issue you want I can probably help you out.
