ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ> Elite or not Elite... That is the question :
Here's a question for you people... What is an Elite BBS'er? What,
nobody has an answer? Well, me neither... But some people seem to...
Especially during the last couple of months, Elites all over
North-America have been trying to close the circle that is already
quite tight around what they call the BBS world... A world where some
people find friends, ennemies and toys to play around with. I use the
word toys here, cause I would like to quote one of my good friends
that once said to me, " In the BBS world, the one that retires with
the most toys, wins... That is being Elite. "
But what about the ones that want to acquire toys, but all those
toys are protected in that circle? I heard of a Martial Law that INC
wants to set up... So that Lamers won't be able to get new games
fast... Again, I ask WHY? People are allowed to play games if they
want, aren't they? And what I find funny, is this: I was talking to one
of the most Elite people in the 514 BBS area, and he also ran one of
the most Elite BBS'es in 514. I asked him plain out, " Dude, do you
ever play the games you get? " And he replied negatively, which once
again brings me to ask the question, WHY?
The problem is, most Elites don't want to give Lamers a chance to
prove themselves... Some people are ready to ascend to greater
heights, but are always blocked by this one nerd that says, " Your to
lame to be on my board ". I have a good example of one good dude
that has never been given a chance to be an Elite, all because of an
event that occured some 2 years ago. People just don't give up on
anything.
Last of all, I'd like to talk about the difference between the BBS
world and the Real world... For most of us, BBS'ing IS a way of life,
and it reflects real life to the "T". There is a line, fine as it may
be, but for some people, there may not even be a line. When a person
is said to be Lame, just because he buys a high speed modem, or
because he changes his alias, it ruins most of his chances for ever
becoming Elite. All I know is, for me, BBS'ing has been a source of
great fun, I have met some of the most wonderful people in my life
through BBS'ing, and I will continue 'till I'm fed up, which won't be for
years to come, I hope...
