Modifying a CD burner to burn Dreamcast and Xbox disc images
This tutorial will teach you how to change the motor spin on your CD-RW in order to be able to burn the reversely-spinned Dreamcast and Xbox games. There are no modchips needed for these systems; you can simply mod your burner and go!
This is the drive I will be using. You can use any drive for the Dreamcast modification. They’re all the same, and easy. For the Xbox modification, you may not be able to do it.
This is the front of said drive.
Warranty Void If Seal Broken? LOL!
First, unscrew the six screws and break the seal.
Slide the top of the drive off and you will be left with this. Unscrew the assembly from the bottom part.
Here are the parts you will be left with. No more dissassembly needs to be done.
This part is for BOTH the Dreamcast and Xbox modification.
Find this part, and search for the motor:
For this step, I used a soldering iron, but anything will work. Simply bridge the two right metallic points.
Securely tape something metallic between the two points if you cannot or do not know how to use a soldering iron. You will be left with this:
The following part is for the Xbox ONLY. If you only plan on using the Dreamcast modification, you may reassemble your burner here. The burner will now burn Dreamcast games AND normal CD-ROMs just fine. It also allows Nero to load up CDI files.
Find this part:
Find the two points here or something similar as it will be different for each burner.
Bridge these two connections in the same manner we did above.
Reassemble the CD-RW. Your CD-RW can now burn Xbox games!
And Nero can load up XBI files!
